Hybrid Uniques - legit?!?

So...

I just want to verify first: is it possible to get a legit drop in _singleplayer_ without any modifications where a unique item has the stats of another one (like buri-armor etc).

Since 07 and 1.13 are played a lot i think we can cancel these 2 out, furthermore probably everything after 1.10, because those where also played alot.

This leaves 08 and 09, and every step-patch in those.

If anyone played those alot and didnt found anything suspicious please post here

The infos on the net are not very clear.

But logically it can be said that occu-soj is a hack, because it has first: the name of SoJ and 2nd: fbr instead of fcr

Buri-Armor seem likely to be legit, since it isnt made in an elite-armor and 2nd in a 'medium' armor, which from a hacker point of view is just a waste of skills. (likely in comparison to occusoj)

It is technically possible, but it is not repeatable. Generally speaking, we allow bugs that are repeatable. Example MPK ring. Even though it is a bug, the method is known and shared so everyone has equal access to the item should they desire it. I think @pharphis linked to the only known legit single player bugged unique. Considering we have multiple Zods on the forum, that makes this item so rare as to be impossible to obtain.

If I had to make a judgment call, I would not allow bugged uniques in legit multiplayer. As always what you do on your own computer is entirely your business.

I think I read somewhere on the Classic forums way way back in the archived pages that there was a bugged unique chest armor. But I'd say that because it is so impossible (very very unusual) to obtain, that it should not be considered legit. The difference between the rarest rune like Zod as Goober pointed out and Tyrael's with this is a relatively large gap.

I think such things are extremely rarely possible in 1.07. Most are probably hacks.

It might have happened to me in 1.09 way back in the day, when baal dropped two unique chain boots in one drop. Sadly, I didn't know that that's not supposed to happen back then. I did however know that unique chain boots were worse than the boots I was wearing, so I didn't bother to ID or even pick up any of them =(

I was also thinking I've seen same thing but it's probably just my mind playing tricks on me. Anyway, if this is way to make such items appear one could run 1.07 Andariel with 556 MF for best result. 556 MF makes her drop only unique items and her very limited TC pool (up to only TC 15) could force her to spit two same uniques. I didn't run her enough to see such thing, and she will drop failed unique instead of second one anyway, but it seems like best bet if someone is on to this it might be best place to start.
She isn't even worst target anyway since she drops 1.07 Ravenzookas, can drop all 1.07 jewelery including 1.07 frw HLW, 50% stronger sorb rising sun, SoJ and 1.07 BKWB that is stylish if nothing else.

Also I hardly see any correlation in terms of base items -> stat items but I'd say majority of them are hacks.
Steelclash chain gloves, nothing too OP but you can go for block with spirit. I'd make stormshield gloves if I were hacker - possibly real stuff.
ATMA's wall mesh boots - fairly good for any ES sorc makes it possible hack in my book.
Burizza field plate - this is your textbook hack. Even ed is perfect...
Wizardspike light gauntlets - yeah...this shouldn't even be shown to minors..
Occy SoJ - two variants - one with fcr one with fbr - beyond useful in 1.09 days where sorcs only had tp - hack.

Neither of those have stats of 1.07 items that we know so they are probably 1.09 stuff that makes 1.07 theory all less likely. All of those have been mentioned in ~2004 era so it's possible they came around same time. No clue what patch was around on bnet at that time but someone can check.
Doubt you could replicate those things on SP anyway.

These did very rarely happen legitimately which served as the inspiration for the hacked versions. Most of these items were imported to the realms using the open->closed hack. The most hilarious of these that I have read about is a windforce ring.

I believe that there was one original oculus ring that was actually dropped but then sold to dupers. It was then popular enough that hacked versions were imported into the other realms to sell for more $$$.

In the later stages the importers realized that they didn't even need to pretend to have legitimate, if crossed, stats and introduced blatantly hacked items.

I recall someone on these forums in the early purediablo.com days having an arkaine's valor ring that they had found legitimately and never sold to dupers such that they never spread. I have looked a couple of times and cannot find reference to it any more, so all I have is my recollection from 12 years ago, but it was a cool screenshot.
