Hermit's Odd Build Challenge

Sounds like everyone is doing pretty good.

My equalizer Barb, Bulkmeister, is lvl 13 and doing fairly well. I figured he would not have problems in Act 1, but I forsee AR problems in the future.

It is nice to have each skill available, gives you lots of options. I am not sure what I am going to do later in the game, but I though about getting as much poison damage as possible and whirlwinding with a polearm to deliver it.

Another build suggestion is the Ether Pally. You can only equip items that are Ethereal. Yes, that means no jewelry. Any skills are allowed except Blessed Hammer. Must be a melee build, no bows. Socketing and runewords are fine if the item is ethereal. Ethereal items with self repair are fine and recommended.

MFing and runs are fine, just no muling. Any Players X you want is fine. I will be using Players 8 as far as possible. Anyone that wants to join in can. Just pick a build. Here is what I see so far.

1) Passive Barb by Uzziah. Not yet taken
2) Psychic Hammer/Blade Sentinel Assassin by Uzziah. Played by canis_lupos
3) Ice Bolt Sorc by Uzziah. Played by Darkwell
4) Equalizer Barb by Uzziah. Played by Hermit_Boy

Welcome and good luck to those just joining in. Anyone that wants to join can just grab a build and start.

If someone can send me the Artic Horn and Mitts, I will gladly take on an Arctic Zon.

Restrictions? You must equip the artic set at all times as soon as you are capable, so no spear/jav skills allowed, not are you ever able to use them (punch until lvl 3).

Any thoughts?

Just give me an email and I will send you the set.

I would say an Arctic Zon would have to use cold skills and passives. No fire or poison.

I think CRG thought up the artic zon build so someone else should be given it, according to the rules. I didn't see it mentioned before his post. If someone else thought of it then go for the build CRG. :thumbsup:

And yes, if it alright, I would like to do the Arctic Zon, even though I thought of it, of course using cold skills only.

If it helps, I have only played 3 zons in my entire D2 career, a v1.10 Strafer, LF zon, and a v1.09 MS zon. Other than that, I have ZERO zon experience.

A nude sorc has to count as a odd build. No defence/blocking/resists and a one row belt makes it a bit tricky. I would play it but I don't really want to restart my current one now she's hit lvl30. Punching to lvl12 for blaze was not a pleasant experience.

The rules state that you need to try builds suggested by others, but I guess we will let this slide just this once :rant: :lol: Mule Sent

What I want to prove here is that pretty much any build can kill Normal Baal. I think we should use the most unusual builds mentioned here when possible. Some of the builds mentioned are actually viable all the way to Hell Baal. (Barb Thrower and Meleemancer I'm looking at you)

I guess I wont have time to play. Is there a time limit?
I think I am gonna help anyway (I hope):

- dual dagger barb;
- axe throwing sorc;
- hunger druid;
- punching pally, maybe convertion user;
- punching Fists of Fire sin :uhhuh:;
- exploding potion anything;
- thunderstorm, lightning tree only sorc (ES and TK);

IF i think of something else, I will send later.

"punching fist of fire sin" is an impossible build fist of fire require a claw to be equipped.

"exploding potion builds" were part of a tourney a few months ago and they did quite well at it.

Which skills for the dagger barb and the throwing sorc?
singing barbs have carried wands for mana so why couldn't they carry daggers.
enchantress maybe over powering with a throwing sorc, and may even work through nightmare.

They would be fun builds! :thumbsup:

doesn't FoF require an equiped claw?

my build:
The Monk
a staff weilding palidin
must melee with a two-handed staff or by punching
no 'metal' armor in any of the 5 armor slots (armor, belt, boots, gloves, helm) except circlets (i.e. leather anything is ok - no studded leather though)
allowed skills:
combat: sacrifice, zeal, vengeance, conversion
no offensive auras
defensive: all but redemption (although recommended to go with prayer/cleansing/meditation to best fit the theme)
moron from act 1 only allowed (your young 'grasshapper')

jewelry is allowed

HBB: should also be no metal items on the merc. although to me no merc at all would make more themed sense(she uses a bow, not a weapon your staff monk would be teaching)

i debated about that, but i think allowing a bow-using moron with the same no-metal restriction would be OK. let's say the Monk is training mental/spiritual aspects not necessarily weapons/fighting, besides a good monk recognizes the value of a ranged attack

How about you can only take a healer from act 2? Monk = staves, merc = spears .. not alot of difference (in looks anyways :lol: )
And for the dagger barb: cry barb + 2 wizzy's = alot of fun

:drink: Sint :drink:

Time for an update:

Vidala, the Arctic Bowazon, has just slain the Maiden on Anguish, Andariel. On /players1, Andy is quite easy with about 80 cold damage in your arrows.

THe set does a lot of cold damage, but it is very slow.

The rest of the act was on /players8, and was a breeze.

However, I am worried about a couple of fights later in the game, namely, Lister, Diablo, Ancients and Duriel.

On a humerous note, Corpsefire dropped me an Arctic Furs. Great. I REALLY need another one...

A Meleemancer, yes.
A Meleemancer with these item restrictions and no Meatshield is a lot less viable. Unless of course you want to whack Hell Baal with a Death's Touch ;)

KBob's Meleemancer uses a bunch of Skeletons (not allowed here), Revives and Golems (same), Beast Runeword (lvl 63 req, so out of reach for the build) and a bunch of other goodies you won't be able to use.

// edit : Unless of course you meant Sint Nikolaas' post, in which case this one here is void.

(Just now noticed) :yawn:

// more editing : A Kickassassin truly is too easy in Normal. It doesn't run into problems untill Hell. By then you need some good gear to be able to move at any speed.

I think I'm going to do a Missionary/Reflector Paladin. He's gonna have some serious problems taking on bosses, but that's to be expected. I can pull it off, but he's gonna need some things to make it work...

1. He will be muled over one item (since there are some builds with muled items already)...The General's Tan Do Li Ga.

2. As per the restrictions of the Reflector, he will be max vit other than the reqirements for #1.

3. He will use no other skill in combat other than Conversion...he will just use regular attacks until then.

4. HE WILL USE NO SHIELD.

5. He will use no mercenary except the Act Three Fire mercs. Why? They look cool.

If you have a problem with this build, please let me know.

Yes. =]

Ravenforce - I thought it was the basic idea that you took someone else's build.

Must say that the monk build seems fairly interesting. Will have to ponder if I have the time to play that one.

@Aerath - Ravenforce is taking this build which abides by the rules he was just modifing it a bit but, staying with in the parameters of the inital build idea. So Raven was just checking to make sure the modifications were acceptable.

@Ravenforce - The initial build doesn't call for specific items so muling one may not be allowed by the rules. Hermit_Boy will have to make a decision on whether the muling of the item is allowed.
