Hermit's Odd Build Challenge

Deathly Necro

Commandomancer, so...

Cannot use Summons.
Cannot use Poison/Bone damaging spells.
Poisondagger is allowed, as are Bone Wall, Armour and Prison.
Curses are free to use.

Note If you wish to use Bone Prison, some 'banned' skills will be required as prerequisites. This is fine, but using them is not allowed.

Death's Disguise Set as equipment.

If possible, use a Death Mask or Bone Helm (or Grim Helm). Wormskull etc will do.

Deathspade is allowed till the Necro can wear the warsword. Before that, anything goes.

Bone Shields (and exceptional version) as well as Necro Heads are allowed. No other shields. Likewise, Wall of the Eyeless and Lidless Wall are allowed. The latter, however, requires clvl 41 and thus might just be out of reach for this challenge.

Any Merc is fine.

First off, I'm not participating in the challenge since I just started a Jedi (see single player forum) but I've been making and trying alot of uh.. not so common builds so I'll just share some with you guys. (no copyright so take em or leave em)

- Paladin
1. Holy Fire + Smite or Charge.
2. A bow using fana healer :scratch: (you figure it out.. was quite funky)
3. Reflector (max vit + low gear + max thorns so everyone will hit you hehe)

- Assasin
1. The Claw (claw mastery, burst of speed, claw block, dragon claw)
2. Cloaker (Cloak of Shadows, Mind Blast, shadow, fade)
3. Kicksin (the usual.. fun build imo)

- Amazon
1. FMC (Fire, Magic, Cold arrow)
2. Full passive tree + 1 arrow of choise (any arrow goes but no synergys)
3. Jabber (quite obvious.. jab + passives)

- Barbarian
1. Throw barb (obvious, just... I never see one and they are really cool)
2. Bash barb (obvious again, bash + passives)
3. Leap barb (leap / leap attack + passives)

-Sorceress
1. Inferno sorc :worship: (this one is great)
2. Blaze sorc (I really had some fun with this one, takes a while to get used to though)
3. lvl restriction sorc (You can only use skill upto lvl 18)

-Druid
1. Summoner with 5 raven and a creaper. (nothing to add really except that raven are better then they seem)
2. Shock bear (nothing to add.. stun like crazy)
3. Rabies Wolf (It's beginning to get more popular, also for dueling, but for pvm it is quite funny)

-Necromancer
1. Mage Trapper (Skell. Mages + Bone prison. It's quite hard to get some mages at first but once you got alot of em they are funny)
2. Meleemancer (been a while since I saw one of those..)
3. Clay Golem + Explosion (you use your golem and merc as tanks and pick either corpse or poison explosion to make your way to the bosses whom are really hard)

Well, I was planning on just giving some builds but it became longer then expectet. If you are wondering, No, I did not play all these types. I did not play:
Assa 2
Sorc 3
Ama 3
Druid 3
Necro 3 (upto lvl 20)

I hope I've been off some assistence here, have fun guys!

I'm in. I could use another socket quest :lol: Just preferably not zon or barb since I'm bored of those hack and slash types.

You are resticted to those skill until you get them maxed. Then all is fair game.

A few questions for you.

Is /players x o.k.?

Can we run an area for items? ( countess, meph, etc.)

Since ctc items are out, does this include charged items?

I hope players8 is allowed, 'cause I started my char using it ... :)

Hermey the Dentist is on his way. Though he's not much of a dentist yet. He's cleared the Den defeated Blood Raven, and claimed the Stony Field WP. His trusty Rogue is only lvl6, but Hermey boasts lvl12.

Skill points so far have gone into all available curses & P&B skills except poison. Only 4 in teeth, so they aren't really useful yet. Besides, Hermey will need to be the tank in A1, and melee kills far faster anyway. The only skills used to any extent yet are lvl1 bone armor and lvl1 Amp :) though he did use dim vision effectively against Cold Crow's pack.

Can anyone guess why I named my dentist Hermey? (No it's not because of our contest sponsor. :) )

I chuckled when i first saw the name. perhaps we could call this the Tournoment of Misfits Builds
 
Well, the only connection for me was Herimone had big teeth but that just shows me to be a geek who actually reads a book while playing D2. :lol:

Anyone has a build for me yet?

My assasin is doing pretty well, with Psychic hammer i can pretty much kill everything in 1 hit only bosses take 3-4 hits, what i really like about this skill is that you dont need to target to hit something and it has knockback.
About blade sentinel, i use it for crowdcontrol and it goes after a target to so thats nice :)
And the damage of sentinal goes up along with youre weapen so if you buy a new better weapen youre blade sentinal damage will increase 2, so later on i will be using my Psychic hammer for archers or bosses to not get them close to me and then target blade sentinal at them while spamming arrows with my bow, to bad sentinal has a timer so you cant spam it.
Another thing, i am using a bow atm cause with the skills this assasin is using you dont get into close combat very often, and for know this combo works really great!

I would like to suggest a Lord of Mages (ie necro using skellie mages as main skills, merc must be act 3 iron wolf and only golem to be used is fire) curses are up to you, but no attacking bone spells.


As for me, can i try the inferno sorc? please :king:

You figured out that build really quickly: Let me give you one little hint though Psychic hammer gains less power to mana ratio than your blade sentinal. Ie you will expend more mana with psychic hammer then with blade sentinal for equal amounts of damage. But I think you have the right idea on how to play the build.

Which skill do you have on which mouse button and how are you regaining mana just with blue pots? Or are you using your regular attack with mana leech. By the way a ranged weapon with the blade skills get a 1/5 penalty to damage added to the blade skill.

@Hermit_boy How goes the equalizer?

@AE Denist build always seem to go melee in the beginning. I took one up to act 2 before I got bored with it but, yours seems to be doing really well. Glad you are enjoying it.

I've decided to jump in and just snatch the rabies wolf build. Any limitations like no pc synergy, no summons, ie. a lone rabid wolf :lol:

About the mana problem, atm im yust using pots. lots of them.
Yust looking for sapphire gems and armor/helm with sockets ^^
And i use physich hammer on F1 and blade sentinal at F2 both right mousebutton

Are those skills affected by fcr, or by IAS like the other traps?
 
Here's an off-the-wall build I've been meaning to try for fun. Perhaps someone could take up the task and see how it goes.

The premise of the build is a barbarian who relies less on brute force and more on tactics, subterfuge and speed. I envision the build being a variation on a throw-barb, but nowhere near as viable in NM or Hell. Who knows...

The Bandit
Barbarian

Skills:
Warcries are limited to Taunt (Howl may be used but you cannot add further skill points here), Find Potion, Find Item and Grim Totem.
Frenzy and Whirlwhind are restricted to 1 point (for style). Berserk is prohibited.
Weapon Masteries are restricted to Sword and Throwing. Sword is further restricted to a cap of 10 skill points. (you may use any one-handed weapon you choose, however)
Iron Skin and Natural Resistance are restricted to a cap of 3 skill points each.

Equipment (exceptional equipment of is allowed if you are permitted to use the normal type):
Two-handed melee weapons are prohibited, including two-handed weapons weilded in one hand. Missile weapons are OK.
Armor is restricted to Chain or 'lighter'. This prohibits all plate armors (except breastplates), splint and ancient armor.
Great Helms are prohibited.
Shields are limited to Buckler, Small Shield and Large Shield.
Light Gauntlets and Gauntlets are prohibited.
Light Plated Boots and Greaves are prohibited.
Plated Belts are prohibited.
Assault Helmets and Avenger Guards are prohibited.
At no point can your light radius be more than +2 net total.

You may twink yourself with a Darksight Helm at any point you could use it. You may also twink with ONE ring or amulet with Dim Vision charges.

This build was intended to make a class something like a thief or true rogue. A bit more 'thug' than I like, but I figure it should be both fun and challenging to play, considering the stiff equipment restrictions. He should make it through Normal without much problem, but NM might slow you down and I highly doubt he'll be Hell viable simply due to lack of equipment flexibility (unless you go with a pure throwbarb, but try to do some sneaky stuff with the Brigand and have fun).

http://www.rpgforums.net/showthread.php?t=168832 the blade fury sin guide same rules apply to the blade sentinal.

try getting a hold of Tir runes they will get your mana back the fastest using your skills blade sentinal may be able to get mana leech to work but I don't remember if it does or not. FCR will help psychic hammer but I don't think you can speed up blade sentinal.
 
If someone can send me the Artic Horn and Mitts, I will gladly take on an Arctic Zon.

Restrictions? You must equip the artic set at all times as soon as you are capable, so no spear/jav skills allowed, not are you ever able to use them (punch until lvl 3).

Any thoughts?
