You are right, but I don't entirely agree.
First, by default I always walk. When I use Frenzy I don't notice the difference between normal run and Frenzy walk, so I end up walking to the skellies. If I were to run, it would be too fast and I might mis-click.
When you WW, you can either use a shield and run... will help a bit, or just WW to them, this way defense still counts.
Of course you are right that almost everyone runs and gets hyped about their high defense, yet they are always hit by monsters.
Walking by default is a matter of habit. I press Ctrl when I want to run. Sometimes I switch to run (to move faster while scratching my head), but then I see myself also pressing Ctrl.
