Epic Fail

I was leveling my new sorceress by joining a chaos run with a bot (yeah, I know, bots are lame but I'm not looking to put a whole lot of time in for a new sorc). Seeing as I joined the game from the list, and not from a channel, I had no idea that there were rules regarding the run. This run had a lot of rules, such as that you had to be 1-2 screens behind the bot, you couldn't pick up drops, you couldn't go in the halls by the seals, etc.

I didn't know this, and one guy (who did not show any indication that he was affiliated with the clan that hosts the runs) got fresh with me about my rule infraction. I did not take kindly to his tone, so I deliberately defied the rules again and again, making him angry. Yeah, immature on my part but this guy was so easy to goad. I strategically placed my character around the bot and picked up some of the more interesting drops (notably got a 6% smfc and a +19 life sc out of it, along with a bunch of flawless gems and some low- and mid-runes).

He was getting more and more and more angry as I refused to follow his arbitrary and greedy rules. Eventually, he hostiled the entire party but made everyone know he was only going after me. At the time, I was a level 55 sorceress with absolutely no equipment. I had 150 HP with the hammerdin bot's battle orders. Killing me is extremely easy (and why he would get any satisfaction from it is beyond me).

So, he teleported to me from the River of Flame waypoint. But I hung around the hammerdin, with the hammers swinging away in orbit. He misplaced his teleport and his body and about 500k in gold fell to the ground.

Rubbing it in, all I said was "fail". He said he was just "testing out the bot's range" and that he'd get me "next time."

I join the next run, go through the bot's Chaos Sanctuary TP, and like clockwork, my assailant hostiles the group. He takes the River of Flame waypoint, teleports to me, and once again gets smacked in the face by one of the bot's hammers. Oops. He left the game. I did a /whois on his account and he apparently signed off in frustration.

Man, that was fun. I had absolutely no attribute or skill points used, and absolutely no equipment attached to my character. And yet this level 93 sorceress on a mission couldn't kill a level 55-60ish naked sorceress. In effort to show us all how big his e-peen was, he just ended up embarrassing himself.

The clan is Clan Torn. No idea if the guy I was dealing with is a part of that clan. At any rate, I don't fault the clan for one bad egg if he is in fact affiliated. Pretty good Chaos and Baal runs if you ask me. I just don't appreciate their 14-year-old members -- assuming, of course -- putting on their Internet Tough Guy facades and acting like they are somehow better than the rest because they can operate bots and can type /kick.

Thought I'd share a fun encounter I had tonight. Nothing is quite as fun as making a nerd taking the game too seriously get all butthurt.

Re: Epic Fail

haha, that is funny.

Re: Epic Fail

Hehe, that is great. Makes me think of a long time ago in a CS run with my Barb where a couple Necro PKers came in to farm everyone's gold. They spammed Bonewalls until the whole game was unstable, but I knew generally where they were, so I just started WWing and ended up killing both of them. Then everyone started guarding their bodies and after a few more times, they split. Fun times.

Hahahahahah, that's funny :D

I don't really care about baalruns and Choasruns and their rules. If they want to hostile me, I'll screw up their whole run by killing everyone in the game. I had some fun duels me against everybody else in Throne or in Chaos :P

If it's a botrun I agree, violating the rules is nothing compared to their violation. But if you join a legit baalrun (or chaosrun) respect the rules (or there will be no ng for you)! There's nothing more annoying than a character stealing lh or grabbing es and using ondal's and claiming he needs it cuz xp is slow... Ondal's makes a character a leecher most of the times (es for sure makes a character a leecher). That's why it's banned (how can my amazon or whatever kill stuff with ondal's?). Imagine if all 8 characters were allowed to use ondal's - who would do the killing then? In legit baalruns you fight for xp, in botruns you leech... The loss of ondal's will be more than compensated if you compare botruns vs legit runs. Legit baalruns are super fast (cuz most of the characters in these runs are well equipted) and full games compared to the slow and never full botruns (not to mention that the bot needs like 30 secs to make ng!).

Just my 2 cents :)

Re: Epic Fail

legit doesnt mean you cant use ondals, that's dumb.

Re: Epic Fail

Ondal's is mostly 'banned' because of the stupid rumor that it 'steals' exp from the other players. As for the leeching, you can still cast with Ondal's if you're a caster, and most new chars are, anyway. And even if not, if there's 2 or more Hammerdins in any particular run, the rest can well be leechers (goes to show just how *balanced* that skill is). :whistling:

When two Hammus cast with 12k+ Hammers there is no need to compensate for anything (well... There might be, but that is for Mr. Freud and them to discuss :scratchchin:). What I mean is, there's no need for extra killing power. Even if the last wave could die a bit faster with others casting, wearing Ondal's instead of Spirit/HotO is not that big of a difference.

Re: Epic Fail

Well I havent checked the life of monsters, but I just asume a party like this makes FAST baalruns.

Ofc if you go for lvl 99 then every split-second counts. I've never done it and never will, since I can make dozens of new chars in the time that it takes. With very fast runs there is the issue of temp bans too, but I assume you kill Dia too to avoid it. Anyway for lvling to 85 you need two Hammus and the rest can use Ondal's and cast with it if needed. :)

As for the offtopic, there's not really much to discuss in this thread. And it is still 'around-the-corner' on topic, fwiw.

People who run thoose channels go for 99, that's why they set some rules. Respect rules or go find other game.

Yes diablo is done (max 3 pp), he's usually done in time for 3rd wave.

Edit: As for the temp ban, that never happens to me (at least not after I changed to window mode). Even tho it's fast runs it's not 2 min or under. Some change cd key to avoid.

I think it's fine people use ondal's in botruns, but if you enter a baalrun, which has certain rules I think it's bm not to do what the rules says. Baalruns with high lvl characters gives nice and fast xp without ondal's (faster than botruns, cuz botruns are never full and slower).

If all follow the rules all should have a nice time playing (besides, who wanna play with a bot? Real people > Bots). However if rules aren't follow stuff might happen and the people in thoose baalruns don't have to care more...

Re: Epic Fail

Wow, instead of changing the run's name and not letting you know, he proceeds to attempt to kill you, then fails, twice.

Re: Epic Fail

hehe, nice story.

reminds me of when i was running baal (with a fire sork) for a hammerdin mate who was shooting for 99. i was shooting for 97 at the time.

while I found the throne, he'd go off and pop the seals and spawn Diablo. once i got to the throne, i'd bail out, head to chaos, get the Diablo XP, then we'd head back into the throne (usually got there by Bartuc).

it was funny when a game full of leachers would die in the throne (i had a lvl90 req on the game...) while we got the xp.

one time, some trapper guy decided to try and PK the hammy (that hammy wasn't built for PvP). i bailed out of the WSK and chased him down, killed him on the way through the RoF. apparantly his fire res wasn't great.

next game, he tried it again. and failed.

third game, yet another attempt.

failed.

i lured a bunch of monsters to the RoF waypoint and he lost a ton of XP attempting to retrieve his corpse (which he never got coz of the meteors i was dropping on it).

then he asks "wai j00 kill me, shud kill hammy?"

then i let him in on the secret: the hammy was a mate, he wasn't.

livened up an otherwise boring baal run and the XP was actually pretty good.

Re: Epic Fail

This happened earlier this evening. I laughed for a good fifteen minutes. The guy joined the baal run and I invited him as usual. He sat in town and never partied, the portal went up and still nothing. Then he goes hostile and a second later... :tombstone:
