Epic Fail
I was leveling my new sorceress by joining a chaos run with a bot (yeah, I know, bots are lame but I'm not looking to put a whole lot of time in for a new sorc). Seeing as I joined the game from the list, and not from a channel, I had no idea that there were rules regarding the run. This run had a lot of rules, such as that you had to be 1-2 screens behind the bot, you couldn't pick up drops, you couldn't go in the halls by the seals, etc.
I didn't know this, and one guy (who did not show any indication that he was affiliated with the clan that hosts the runs) got fresh with me about my rule infraction. I did not take kindly to his tone, so I deliberately defied the rules again and again, making him angry. Yeah, immature on my part but this guy was so easy to goad. I strategically placed my character around the bot and picked up some of the more interesting drops (notably got a 6% smfc and a +19 life sc out of it, along with a bunch of flawless gems and some low- and mid-runes).
He was getting more and more and more angry as I refused to follow his arbitrary and greedy rules. Eventually, he hostiled the entire party but made everyone know he was only going after me. At the time, I was a level 55 sorceress with absolutely no equipment. I had 150 HP with the hammerdin bot's battle orders. Killing me is extremely easy (and why he would get any satisfaction from it is beyond me).
So, he teleported to me from the River of Flame waypoint. But I hung around the hammerdin, with the hammers swinging away in orbit. He misplaced his teleport and his body and about 500k in gold fell to the ground.
Rubbing it in, all I said was "fail". He said he was just "testing out the bot's range" and that he'd get me "next time."
I join the next run, go through the bot's Chaos Sanctuary TP, and like clockwork, my assailant hostiles the group. He takes the River of Flame waypoint, teleports to me, and once again gets smacked in the face by one of the bot's hammers. Oops. He left the game. I did a /whois on his account and he apparently signed off in frustration.
Man, that was fun. I had absolutely no attribute or skill points used, and absolutely no equipment attached to my character. And yet this level 93 sorceress on a mission couldn't kill a level 55-60ish naked sorceress. In effort to show us all how big his e-peen was, he just ended up embarrassing himself.
The clan is Clan Torn. No idea if the guy I was dealing with is a part of that clan. At any rate, I don't fault the clan for one bad egg if he is in fact affiliated. Pretty good Chaos and Baal runs if you ask me. I just don't appreciate their 14-year-old members -- assuming, of course -- putting on their Internet Tough Guy facades and acting like they are somehow better than the rest because they can operate bots and can type /kick.
Thought I'd share a fun encounter I had tonight. Nothing is quite as fun as making a nerd taking the game too seriously get all butthurt.
