Ender's Mafia Game

If I'm not confident that I know who the Mafia are, can I pass up my vote, or do I have to vote?

At this point, if you know who the mafia are, that most likely means you're part of the mafia. >_>

*psst*
I want to see someone win a game w/o ever voting.

Is that a challange? :strong:

@Leo
That's what I was trying to say! :P
Val and Peter would definitely be some kind of PR if they were in the game. They aren't directly involved with the training, so I don't think they would be vanilla townies.
How they influenced politics on Earth leads me to believe they'd be able to do something related in-game, although I'm not sure what that would be.

And yes, the book is amazing and you should read it if you've the time.

Trying to determine which roles would be power roles so early in the game? For shame. Without giving away to many spoilers, why do you think those specific characters would be likely to have power roles?

If I go get a gender-change operation, can I get in on that too?

Just had to Lol at this. CG, you must have the worst record for being killed the first night, does someone have this on record, it would be interesting to see.

That was actually not at all what I was thinking. Bonzo was one of the other kids in command school who tried to kill Ender, I was thinking it would be kinda like the battle room with good kids (Ender+Jeesh) vs. bad kids. If going off the first book, I would put Peter in the bad camp, but off the whole series, maybe not.

Good kids, bad kids, what? Whats the point of this book again, kids fighting against other kids?

@pharphis: Seems my PAL subscription ran out. I've already paid for a new one, but it hasn't updated yet. In other words you probably can't PM me until it's been updated. I'll notify Rush/Elly in the evening (my time) if it still hasn't been updated. Let me know if you need an alternate way of contacting me until my account has been upgraded.

I am not familiar with the lore and can not know if there is a cult unless I was recruiting for one.

Hm interesting, I believe Val already said he was not familiar with the lore, do you think you can apply that thinking to him?

also, to answer korial: I am completely new to mafia in all regards. :badteeth:

Oh yeah, I'm totally new too. :whistling:

Is that a challange? :strong:

Challenge Accepted! Well, no, not really.

@kitteh: generally not voting is a bad idea in the beginning. The only people who know who the mafia are in the beginning of the game are 1) the mafia and 2) the mod. Typically mafia won't vote-lock for mafia in the first few days. They will vote for each other to throw town off, but a mafia being in a lock vote? Doesn't happen much.
Voting, even if you don't know who's who, gives information. People use all kinds of banter to lynch people. Pulling quotes from the sign-up thread, drunk posts from the emb and noodles compound, etc. If you drunk post, be sure and drunk post on a couple of other threads.
Not voting can be used against you too, "Look at kitteh! He didn't vote for zemaj or coju and both were town! He did vote for CG who was scum, but he didn't vote for korial who was also scum! Kitteh is scum!"
But, it's all we have on these forum-based-mafia-games! At least for the first couple of days!

Its all wifom. It can be applied unless he or I are mafia and just bsing you

@kitteh you don't have to vote of you aren't sure but if you wait till you are sire you may never get a vote in!

interesting conversations about lore/backstory...

so, out of curiosity, exactly how beneficial is that sort of thing to the actual game, usually? :|

It gets people talking, and I think useful information comes from it. What do you want to have a conversation about?

I want to see someone win a game w/o ever voting.

Treestumps. If I had to guess, Ankeli has done this.

Good kids, bad kids, what? Whats the point of this book again, kids fighting against other kids?

In Enders Game, they train kids to lead the fight against the buggers. But the buggers really don't appear in the books much, as they are fighting far away. The training is what takes center stage and therefore I think the kids who hate Ender would be more likely mafia.

Because killing off CG would be an efficient way of adding suspicion to both me and Drixx at the same time, considering our interaction with him in the twilight phase.

What do you think about this Solar Ice? Do you think it's plausible that someone targeted CG in order to frame korialstraz and/or Drixx?

"Good Theorycrafting" is relevant to the game and not just about the book. Two kills at night? Conversations about SK or multiple mafia become more important. Do the kill flavors change? Possible indication of multiple/different hitmen (and possibly their identities). Hints in the stories? Lore is a good place to look for interpreting the hints properly.

To me, it looks like the lore conversation is more about what is in the book than what parts of the book are in the game. Relevance is lacking. The most relevant lore conversation I've seen is the theorycrafting about who might be mafia but even that doesn't seem to be terribly relevant until after someone claims.

Why the fib?

If I'm not confident that I know who the Mafia are, can I pass up my vote, or do I have to vote?

It's rarely a good idea to pass up a vote just because you aren't sure. Better to try and miss than not try at all.

Let me put it another way: Mafia win when there aren't enough townie votes to lynch mafia. A townie not voting is like putting that townie vote in the hands of the mafia. It makes their team bigger/tougher/scarier.

Trying to determine which roles would be power roles so early in the game? For shame. Without giving away to many spoilers, why do you think those specific characters would be likely to have power roles?

Further discussion of which roles would be power roles? And why? For shame.

Ankeli didn't win as treestump in the Monty Python game. I don't think G-Man counts as a treestump either.

Wait. They are really called buggers? That's as bad as DarkFriend.

The official name is the Formics (formic acid in ants, anyone?). But 98% of the time they're called the buggers.

It's purely discussion. I think they would because they're pretty important in the story and the real shame would be leaving them out of the game.

Discussion about story helps people formulate theories on who may or may not be mafia, a cult, PR, etc. I think taking the book into account helps us with overall understanding of the game, just like it did to an extent in the ASoIaF game.

Who do you think is the Mafia in this game?

I do not know the motivations for CG's NK. Korial in particular is not giving off good vibes to me. That Korial comes out and mentions this point himself, and then includes Drixx for a frame-up as well does not look good to me.

Vote: Korialstraz

So SI, you think that korial is trying to frame Drixx, interesting.

Attempted framing is what I see, and I've seen similar tactics used before. Now sure what makes this scummier than other times.

He mentions Drixx as well as himself for a frame-up, not just himself. Quite a difference, as he is defending another player. And he is under no pressure but raises that the motivation for the NK as a frame-up almost off the bat. Why?

Now if Korial was Scum and killed CG, he can get it out of the way that he was framed and make himself look more Townie. If Drixx is Town, he places suspicion on Drixx should Korial go down. If Drixx is a Scumbuddy, Drixx looks better as well, provided that Korial is not lynched.
