Ender's Mafia Game

Gah. Day is ending too fast. Didn't finish reading.

I don't know any characters in Ender's Game. I've read some books in the Homecoming (?) series. I'd like to be that telepathic stellite that puts visions in peoples heads. Trippy. I hated the main chracter that told the women they couldn't have whoopie with their hisbands because they couldn't have children born while traveling.

Well, a handful of small groups have formed. . .

- but none of them with Ender.

Precisely. We've separated him pretty well. The launch up here may not have been enough, if he wasn't as young as he is.

I guess that means it's a good thing that we're running out of time and had to force him up sooner?

Don't remind me.

Twilight phase is over. Night 1 has started and will end at 5pm (GMT -5) Monday, followed by the first day phase. Please don't post until I have made the opening post announcing who has been killed. This goes for every night.

That was messy.

Just a little scuffle. He wasn't in harm's way.

That's the thing! He's becoming too confident in his own well-being.

You're suggesting we put him in dangerous scenarios every day?

No, of course not. I just don't want him to think every battle will be as easy as it was with those boys.

Ah.

Anyway, the boy was hurt too much. He won't be able to play in the battle room for weeks.

It's okay, the third invasion isn't that soon.

You speak as if you already know who are going to be in his Jeesh.

*shrugs* It's hard no to pick up on these things after so many failed students.

Caluin Graye has been killed.

21 players remain. It takes 11 votes to lynch and 12 to lock.

It is now daytime. You may all post freely for 48 hours.

Interesting that CG was killed off. In any case I didn't have time to respond to his post, and despite his tendancy for mind games, I can't help but take the bite.

Hmm, never would have figured it out if you had not said you were drunk at the beginning :P

Well I had to read it a couple times to sort it all out myself. Almost didn't even remember I made that post. xD

This has some serious logic. Is well thought out, inspired, and brings up several very good points and calls out several scum. I will be using this as my blueprint for voting the entire game.

Glad I can be of help! ;)

For instance - due to those joke votes I placed, I now suspect something about Korialstraz. He felt the need to inform us that he wasn't going to be around much during the Twilight phase, yet stops by to offer a drunken read on me that very much looks to be in response to my joke vote on you (while re-informing us of his lack of activity). Almost as if he were defending you, for some strange reason. Now, later in the game, if you were to be lynched and flipped scum, that would naturally lead me to start questioning Korialstraz.

I think you might have been reading just a bit too much into that drunken post. From what I remember, and from knowing how I am when drunk, that post was made just before going to bed at 4 am (the timestamp helps). The reason I took the time to do that was despite after having cleaned the table of empty bottles and beer cans, and wiping it with a wet cloth, I was too drunk to sleep. Sounds weird I know, but if I go to bed and I'm too drunk, I'll get sick in about 5-15 minutes and throw up. So to avoid that I find ways of passing time until I sober up enough to avoid it. Reading forums, making drunk posts, walking around in whichever appartment I'm in, or watching tv is several ways I've done this in the past. I guess making a drunk post in a mafia game didn't seem like a bad idea due to the twilight phase.

I just tried reading as best as my blurry vision allowed me, and noticed you were making posts in your usual style, which I found amusing considering the twilight phase.

As for the bolded part, that was me being completely aware of the terrible hangover I would have. After being so drunk I couldn't stand on my own two feet without a lot of concentration. You may ask how I knew I'd have a terrible hangover? Because I fell several times during the party, something I can't recall having done in several years. >_>

I agree with Gwaihir, it all really comes down to the administration versus the kids. I'm trying not to spoil anything but that's how it is.

That was actually not at all what I was thinking. Bonzo was one of the other kids in command school who tried to kill Ender, I was thinking it would be kinda like the battle room with good kids (Ender+Jeesh) vs. bad kids. If going off the first book, I would put Peter in the bad camp, but off the whole series, maybe not.

I don't see how a twilight vote is useful to the town. I suppose as an inside joke or, as you say, expressing a vendetta ... but afaik the roles are randomized, so who or what we all were in other games is not in the least bit relevant here. All the votes right now serve to do is obfuscate things, which is generally bad for the town. The bad guys want confusion while the good guys want clarity.

Last point is true. But votes, even if they don't count, can provide clarity on who the voter finds suspicious. They can also elicit reactions that can give info on who the bad guys are. So in my opinion, still useful.

Vote: CG

That's normal korial.

Intentional misvote because it doesn't matter in twilight, or accident in not unbolding?

Least fave? That one dude from Spain that bullies Ender. Someone recently told me who it was and I forgot already. -.-

Pretty sure that was Bonzo. And you must have fun friends if you discuss books like Enders Game!

Before going to bed I have a question. How many players are new to the game?

Oh and not sure if I mentioned this, but I've not read the books, so I won't be of much help theorycrafting in this game.

I have no clue what Ender's Game is about besides the overall synopsis from wikipedia. Does anyone has any insight on what the source entails and how it can affect the game? Anything special that we should all know? (e.g. "Xyz" maybe be a cult). Also, my policy vote:

Vote: Moar

Looking for a cult in twilight?

How do non-counting twilight votes obfuscate things?

How recently?

Hm, I hadn't thought about that. The way your post was worded threw me off a bit.

"I think the most likely mafia would be the people who oppose Ender in command school (Bonzo being the first that comes to mind)."

The italics being what I picked up and what made me assume you were talking about the administration, and the bold is what I glazed over and didn't really pick up.

I can see how kids vs. kids would make sense, since that was the main focus for a good portion of the book, and then the mindset of the kids changed later towards going against the administration once the rules were being skewed so dramatically.

As for Peter, in the first book he was trying to keep Ender from ever coming back to Earth. I forget why, but that was his plan anyhow.

I'm off to bed, and with that I would like to remind everyone of the European's time zone regarding the game. As it stands, the phases start and end at 23:00, so it's possible some people won't make it to the end of the days. I haven't checked how many players are not in America, but I assume I am not the only one. Before leaving, though...

Korial's "How many players are new to the game?":
New to Mafia games or the book (which also has the word game in its title)? I qualify for the second.

Goryani's "Looking for a cult in twilight?":
I think it would be useful to known if a cult is likely due to lore connections. Should I not bother making any questions related to the game's source material?

Ahhh! No spoilers please! I've only read Ender's Game and Speaker for the Dead and Peter wasn't in that one.

Pretty sure that was Bonzo. And you must have fun friends if you discuss books like Enders Game!

haha! Some RL, some Internet. That person (and to answer Gory's question) was Pharphis.

Goryani's "Looking for a cult in twilight?":

Personally, I don't see a cult here. I don't see how it would work in the first book but it's been a little while since I've read the book. :(

You should do what you think is best.

But I have to wonder about your alignment if your first post of the game, before any night phase occurs, contains the equivalent of: "is there a SK in the game?" or "is there a second mafia in the game?" Not even that: "Does the lore support the idea of SK/second mafia?" Lore often supports an idea not found within the game.

If someone had said "Yes, the lore supports the idea of a cult" what would you have done? Would that answer help you determine if a cult is in the game? Would that answer help you find cult members? Would that answer help you find mafia? Would that answer help you find townies?

interesting conversations about lore/backstory...

so, out of curiosity, exactly how beneficial is that sort of thing to the actual game, usually? :|

In the ASOIAF game, we lynched a white walker, because the claim didn't match with lore. So in some situations I guess it helps. Depends on how you apply your knowledge.

also, to answer korial: I am completely new to mafia in all regards. :badteeth:

Haven't I seen you playing mafia games before? :scratchchin:
