Diablo 2 1.13 PTR is UP

Re: Diablo 2 1.13 PTR is UP

Damn, this should have been patch 1.01, not 1.13!
There are some great changes but also some weird decisions.

- Respecialization is now possible!
Simply great.

- Modified the gold bank limit to be a flat cap not bound by level.
Does it mean more or less gold?

- Nightmare/Hell WilloWisps champions/uniques have had their damage greatly reduced.
- Greatly reduced the explosion damage dealt by Fire Enchanted monsters.
About time! Those were my only deaths in late hell (plus some IM of course)
No more death by FE-LE scarabs, exploding council, pindle, evil gloams.. incredible.

- Removed Oblivion Knight's Iron Maiden curse.
Oh my god, that is heaven.
Only.. too bad I made all melee characters less powerful to be able to deal to IM!!
I would have preferred, instead, that Blizzy lowered its damage to an acceptable rate (es: no multipliers).

A new Mystery has been revealed!
Major Bugs
Nothing much for Single Player.

Revised Skill balance for Player Character classes
Changes to my characters (built to be able to defeat almost all monsters at P3):
- archer-javazon: unaffected as she uses both freezing arrow and lightning fury.
- claw-trapsin: a little gift for her shadow master.
- ww barb: improved a bit his CS, luckly berserk is still useful against PI.
- hammer-zealot: primary is melee, but I wonder if all those points spent in BH to deal with IM, PI, FE are now wasted or not.
- wind-fire druid: unaffected as he doesn't shapeshift. However, I would have chosen fire claws instead of fire spells maybe without IM. He's a bit weak lol
- clay-skelemancer: for me CE was already too powerful, but the new patch it's ok from his point of view.
- meteor-orb sorc: unaffected.

So, no changes except for my druid who could have been better, and my preferred character, the zealot, who now has lego hammers as backup.. :tombstone:

Re: Diablo 2 1.13 PTR is UP

If there were no bots and no dupes i don't see a reason to ever reset the ladder, or even have ladder/non-ladder. As i said, "infinite" content, if i play 1 month i'll dig deeper in the content that i was one month ago. Reseting the ladder seems like a cheap solution to flush out the dupes and bots, or i'm reading it wrong.

That's exactly how i feel about ladder/non ladder. After a reset Blizzard offers us a new economy and for a short time every1 is enjoing it, leveling/trading etc. But with the horadric cubes recipes to cube up runes... we all know what happens. Every man and his dog are duping/cubing runes to equip their chars as they go. And then start bragging "i found xx shakos and xx this and xx that" (found by a char that's equiped with dupewords). Any1 can see this is what breaks the game economy (and the game actually because it's all about items). The cube recipes did not get removed so next ladder we'll see more of the same. Unless that dupe fix they mentioned actually stops it but i won't hold my breath.

--> the rune cube recipes + rune duping are the biggest threat to the D2 economy period. I can't believe they've left the cube recipes intact :(

Imagine if you take those ums, mal, and ist you found and got a group of several friends together on the player matchup forum who have about the same, and you all combine them, cube them up to get the godly rw you all agree on. Then, you would share it by passing it around and you could all organize a scedule to see who gets the rw on which days where whoever contributed the most would have the most time with it. It sounds crazy, but there are all kinds of ways to get those hrs. For some reason, everyone only focuses on having them drop naturally.
This assumes I have a few people to play with regularly. As of now, I don't. Almost everyone I've played with this ladder has quit at this point.
Wouldn't that be a special experience just knowing that you and your friends are pretty much the only people able to mf all the main target bosses in such short time?
Nope. I don't care what the random people on b.net I'll never talk to do. I have no interest in being the best or the richest player on my realm. My only interest is having some fun with the game. Fun is not scheduling item use times, or running a particular boss until I have arthritis in my hands. Fun is goofing around with different builds and items to see what you can create. The longer the list of items you have access to, the more possibilities there are. Some of the most fun I've had this ladder was with novelty builds that were created around high end rune words.

Re: Diablo 2 1.13 PTR is UP

Sorry in advance if this seems hostile.

To all the "hardcore" players bashing the rune drop increase, removal of IM, etc.: Instead of raging against everyone who likes those changes, why don't you post on the Blizz forum and suggest that they add more things for actual challenge instead of nearly unavoidable cheapshots and luck-based success? Ask for more fights that play out like the battle with the Ancients. Ask for high-end items' stats to be toned down so that you can't simply over-power everything. Heck, ask for potions to be rebalanced so your health globe isn't 16 times larger than it says it is.

Iron Maiden and deadly FE death explosions were pure bullcrap, and I'm glad they're gone. They force you to use a completely different playstyle. Not a change in tactics, a straight-up "You want to play a melee character? Screw you." The only ways a melee character could get past Iron Maiden were:
  • Stop being a melee character
  • Trick the AI in ways that, as far as I know, were only discovered recently
  • "Every single barbarian in existence MUST have a point in berserk"
  • Utilize equipment that there is no guarantee that you'll have
All except for the first one are cheesy workarounds. And as for that first one... When I make a melee character, I do so because I want to play a melee character.

Re: Diablo 2 1.13 PTR is UP

No, just play your melee character better. Try actually keeping your eyes open for casting animations, targeting OKs first, using shutdown utilities to ensure your safety. I'm perfectly happy using leap and ww to take out OKs, one of the only real sources of adrenaline for a non teleing char, and have Patted HC chars on nothing more (although my general approach to barbs as an oft untwinked player would be berzerk, warcry, taunt are all indispensable utilites in their own right).

I'm quite capable of adjusting the game's difficulty in general with self-imposed limitations, like playing low tier builds, not shopping, etc.

What I'm not capable of doing is putting new challenges into the game that transform progression from a on-size-fits-all grind into actual gaming. It's great you want to play a melee char, so do I - just I don't consider blindly rcl-rcl-rcling through every enemy in the game "playing".

I'm glad they've made mercs immune to it though, that was just irritating.

Re: Diablo 2 1.13 PTR is UP

Hello.

Have I misunderstood the resolutions part of the patch?

I've tried DDraw/D3D, Windowed/Fullscreen, but I can't get resolutions other than 640 and 800x600.

Re: Diablo 2 1.13 PTR is UP

If I'm reading this correctly, it basically means you can stretch the window more, so you'll still be running at 800x600 but you can have a larger window by stretching the image.

The quality will be lowered though.
