Classic Trading Economy & Market

He wos talkin bout uniqs.

yeah, thing is I don't consider any of the uniques, or set items that particularly difficult to either find, or trade for. and when I'm online at least, I don't see much demand for either based on the names of the games, or the requests I see in trade games that I'm mf-ing.

once upon a time, I had a hard time getting my hands on a blinkbat, or hot spurs. Now, I have 3 bats, and 4 spurs at the moment - better than half of which I found myself.

I recently also admitted that I had never found a single gnasher until this week. I also have never landed a single soj from a monster drop. ever. 4 years of playing and mfing. however, acquiring sojs (or a gnasher) isn't that difficult either once one finds a couple of "game end" gear items - even if one overpays for the first couple.

your post about those that may start off poor, but have the knowledge on how to get decent gear/items is one I very much agree with/on.

My own observations, to answer my own "question" and play as though I'm just another poster:

I must have sold, given away, or thrown away VENOM WARD about 15 times now during various CS runs. It's almost improbable how often I find it and yet cannot find certain other items; it's become a running in-joke amongst my new b.net friends.

The most requested item that I am personally aware of is the Death's hand gloves (green/set). I know several 'Zons and Barbs who have dozens of the Deaths sashs, but not the gloves and their 30 IAS. I also do not know anyone who has found them yet or has an extra pair that they'll trade.

I have yet to have any unique belt drop in my lap.

I have no problems finding Hotspurs or Gulls or heavy armors like Silks or Rockfleece... even nice rare armors... but it's the little/medium uniques that keep evading me. Twitchthroes & Magefists are a prime example. To contrast this, I know a very high level player (who constantly does MF runs) who asked -me- to contact him upon the odd chance that I'd find a specific type of armor (very high def, low ST & CLvl req). I've already found two. So I have to admit that finding items definitely has randomness and luck built into the "calculation".

What does it all mean? Not sure yet. I'll wait till more people have posted reports of their servers' "market status" before drawing conclusions. And yes, while I was asking about uniques specifically, observations about rares are also welcome. We're all just learning - or at least I am.

It's important to understand drop formulas and magic find. This site is an excellent resource for this. There is an element of randomness of course but lets not overestimate it. Whether it be goomba's gnasher example (only uniq/set that hasn't droped for me either), or magefist, twitch, whatever, you probably haven't found it because you weren't specifically looking for it. If you thoroughly understood the game mechanics, and specifically set out for find Gnasher (or anything else), hitting the correct mob with correct amount of MF the odds of being frustrated in this effort for long are low.

The irony... I have several gloves and swords, but not a single belt...

I found 5 gnahsers :)

but I havent found a single bane ash nor kneel striker

had both of these items, but lost them in transfer

so I made special mf char, just to find them - and nothing yet :(

Are you looking for those weapons for any specific reason? LLD perhaps?

I found a Bane ash my first 20 minutes ever playing classic (Hardcore East Ladder), I was all: "NO WAY OMG STFU PWN YOZ" and then fire bolted things until ~level 15.

Edit: for those of you curious about the lowish level uniques that keep evading you - twitch/bloodfist/etc. I'd suggest mfing in normal as opposed to nm/hell. That said, the ever elusive Hotspur has maintained its enigma and mysterious allure (for me, at least).

Those 2 items are the rarest uniques and nice trophies

really? As in hard to find because they pretty much only drop in the early stages of Normal, or hard to find because of bugged drop chances? I have not found either myself, have found a couple Gnashers, and Biggins though, multiple Bloodfists. Still no Lenymo, Blinkbat, Hotspurs, Hand of Broc, Pelta Lunata. I guess most of those are the lowest uniques possible....

IIRC wand/staff/scepter only drop 1/3rd as often as other weapon types. Drops of these item types also decrease sharply past the first few areas of act 1. Combine this factor with a higher (a?)lvl drop requirement such as in the case of Blinkbats and Tancred's Boots can make some items extra hard to get.

My memory is pretty hazy since I just started playing D2 again after a year+ layoff :) I don't ever remember The Gnasher being hard to get though... I got several of those versus 0 Blinkbats and 1 Tancred Boot through my many hundreds of hours of play.
