Charm Guide, Final Version (hopefully)

Re: Charm Guide, Final Version (hopefully)

Haha, that's the part that really got me confused when I was learning how to craft.
Then I decided, to hell with it, I'll simply gamble for amulets with character level 93 and craft caster amulets. :smug:

Thanks for qlvl list. :)

Re: Charm Guide, Final Version (hopefully)

More questions, sorry for double post. :whistling:

For example:
Amber: resist lightning +10-11%, ilvl 54
Now, the difference between these and the Sapphire/Crimson charms, is that lightning resistance is generally considered one of the most important resistances in Hell. Why? Two main reasons: lightning enchanted enemies that shoot bolts out in all directions, that are almost impossible to avoid, and Gloams. Hell Gloams deal insane amounts of lightning damage, in piercing bolts that are very difficult to dodge. This makes lightning resistance more important than the rest, and as such, Amber small charms are worth the most out of all the single-element resist charms. While a Sapphire small charm with a good suffix makes for an excellent charm, an Amber small charm with a good suffix makes for an outstanding one.
Why ilvl 54? What's the source of this information?
Arreat Summit has (40) written next to Amber prefix.

Re: Charm Guide, Final Version (hopefully)

See my post #80 in this thread.
For small charm, magic_lvl=0, qlvl=28

magic_lvl is used only for circlets, some wands, staves and orbs.
Other qlvl besides equippable items:
amulet,ring,gc,jewel: qlvl=1
large charm: qlvl=14

Re: Charm Guide, Final Version (hopefully)

I see... Problem is, that algorithm from post #80 confuses the hell out of me. :/
Could you make an example with concrete numbers to show me how it's used?
I'm not sure about anything any more... At first I though that algorithm was used for crafted items only.
Do I have to input qlvl and alvl to get ilvl, or do I have to input qlvl and ilvl to get alvl or something third?
I just want to find out the easiest way to determine ilvl and alvl of small charms and grand charms so I know the best areas to hunt for them to roll certain modifiers.

Thanks for your patience.

Btw, I've been to Prague twice, beautiful city. :)

Re: Charm Guide, Final Version (hopefully)

Hi, this algorithm is used for determining possible affixes. It is used for magic, rare and crafted items.

If (ilvl>99) then {ilvl=99}
if (qlvl>ilvl) then {ilvl=qlvl} ;** see note below
if (magic_lvl>0) then {alvl=ilvl+magic_lvl}
else
{
if (ilvl<(99-qlvl/2))
then {alvl=ilvl-qlvl/2}
else {alvl=2*ilvl-99}
}
If (alvl>99) then {alvl=99}

Example SC - ilvl 54, qlvl=28, magic_lvl=0
1) If ilvl>99 then ilvl=99 - this is only for cosmetic purposes, you shouldn't get an item in D2 LOD with higher ilvl than 99 (maybe in Uber levels??)
54 isn't greater than 99, so the rest of the line is ignored

2) if qlvl>ilvl than ilvl=qlvl
28 isn't greater than 54 so the rest of the line is ignored

3) if (magic_lvl>0) then {alvl=ilvl+magic_lvl} else ...
magic_lvl is not greater then zero, so the rest of the line is ignored and we can go to 4):

4) if (ilvl<(99-qlvl/2))
then {alvl=ilvl-qlvl/2}
else {alvl=2*ilvl-99}

54 is lower than 99-(28/2) so alvl=ilvl-qlvl/2=54-28/2=54-14=40

5)If (alvl>99) then {alvl=99}
alvl is not greater than 99. alvl remains 40 which is the final result.

Now the game will choose from all the affixes with alvl<=40 (but not higher)

But it's much more simpler to use an affix calculator (I already provided a link) which do this job for you and you don't have to know qlvl and magic_lvl for each item...
You usually wants to know the minimum lvl of area you should run to be able to get specific affixes - so you have to use affixcalculator several times to determine the right lowest itemlevel at which the desired affix spawns.

Yes, that's the point I'm trying to get at this whole time. :yes:
But affix calculator shows only affix levels, there's nothing about item levels there.
I know item level equals monster level that dropped it and monster level equals area level (+2 for champions, +3 for uniques and minions) (on nightmare and hell), but how do I find out which item level can spawn which affix level without going through that algorithm?
In other words, what's the simplest way to find out that, for example, item level level 54 can spawn affixes up to level 40?

Re: Charm Guide, Final Version (hopefully)

Go to affix calculator, select item type (small charm), Near the top (above the table of affixes, there is an inputbox with description Item level (1-99). Enter ilvl and click OK. Affix calc will write the ilvl and affixlevel on the top of the page and will select only possible affixes for that ilvl/alvl.

Ooooh. :nod: I missed that completely.

Thanks, you're a life saver. :thumbup:
