Can I do Ubers with my Wolf

I've done the Ubers a bunch with my 1pt Smiter, but I want a new challenge. I decided to see how many different characters I can kill the Ubers with. First up for the challenge is my Werewolf Druid. He seems a good candidate (lots of CB), but is he ready? Here are the details without further ado:

Level 83

Gear:
Upped Eth Ribcracker
Gores
Dracs (will need to buy or swap from another char; currently using crafted blood gloves)
Jalal's (not socketed)
Dusk CoH
Ravenfrost/Rare Dual Leach 7%ll/5%ml
Highlord Ammy
Dungo w/14% DR

Inventory:
15/15 Torch
16/10 Anni
Mostly life charms (charms are a bit of a weak spot since this is the last char I made this ladder and he got the left-overs)

Skills:
20 Werewolf
20 Lycanthropy
20 Fury
20 HoW
1 in various pre-reqs
11 unspent (Feral Rage?)

Stats:
Life 4100 (no skillers, no CTA)
Average Damage including DS is 10K+
65% crushing blow
22% damage reduction
AR w/o HoW is around 10K
20 unspent points

I plan to pre-buff with Treachery and swap a few charms for resists, but I have a few other questions.

1) Is this setup viable as is?
2) What should I socket Jalal's with? Um/Ber/other?
3) Should I dump all unspent skill points in Feral Rage?
4) Do I need a CTA (I have one I can "borrow" from my Hammerdin)?
5) I also have a low Metalgrid I could use instead of the HL ammy, should I switch?
6) Anything else I need to know?

Thanks in advance to all.

What is your positive resists after Fade? Just looking it seemed to me that you might need Um in Jalals and Metalgrid to catch your resists up against Mephy's Conviction. I personally think IK belt is great for the fire and lightning resist because DR% wasn't as important to me as I went with SS and one hander. Definitely pump up Feral Rage. I don't have it maxed either but it's what you should use in Trist. I think using a shield is better off, but I've never tried without so... Shael'ed Stormlash for CB and static, then switch to Grief phaser when boss life get's around 1/3 or 1/4 is the way I went.

Oh yeah, with Feral Rage you can go without Dracs. I substituted with a Laying of Hands for 50% fire res and 350% damage to demons!

Assuming 60% from fade, I'd have 247/237/245/241, if I'm using my current gloves. Current glove stats: 1%LL/7%CB/12Str/7Dex/16 life/30% Fres/14% Cres. I would also plan to pile on a few resist scs to get that higher. I think I will still need the Um in the Jalal to avoid trashing too many life charms for resists.

Intersting Clay, I was wondering if Feral Rage leeched enough to not require Dracs. Can anyone else confirm this?

well i did ubers once or twice with my old single player fury druid (i have plug Y so i can do ubers and have ladder runewords on single player) and i used an ebotd thunder maul and he did ok died against meph tho... damn conviction. Any way i cant remember gear off hand but when i get home i'll post some gear and skills

Bjam is your 200+ resists assuming the -100 hell penalty or not? If not, -125 resists from Conviction means you will only have 12-22 resists throughout the different elements.

You are correct that my resists will be barely positive with everything factored in. Hence my need to swap in resist charms and most likely Um the Jalal's. Let's assume I'm going to Um it. I would need to add maybe 3x11 resist scs for fire/cold/light and 1 res all sc. That would solve my resist issues.

Any other suggestions? How much AR should I strive for to make sure I hit enough? Should I level a little first?

Biggest problem is Mephisto. But we knew that, a good way to counter is just to make sure you have enough lightning stack, and a thundergod's vigor helps lots too :)

Then you can laugh at his face while you're eating it!

I like to see different characters do the Ubers...besides the boring smiter :P

Thumbs up to you, and I wish you luck! :D

Thanks to all that responded.

OK, I've decided to go for it (need a few more keys first). In the meantime any additional advice is appreciated.

Here's the plan:

1) Um Jalal's
2) Keep current gloves (CB will be 72%)
3) Level up to 85 (extra to hit, life, and skill points)
4) Dump unspent skill points in Feral Rage
5) Kill the mini-ubers (Lilith will be a good test of survivability without life tap)
6) "Borrow" treachery armor from my Uber Pally
7) Swap in a few resist charms so that resists are 280+/280+/300+/2xx
8) Plan on bringing merc in and hope I get Mephy last

If I get crushed, I can always bring in the Pally to do the dirty work and get the torch, but I hope that doesn't happen.

Win or lose, I'll post the results along with a detailed account what worked well and what didn't.

good luck

Lillith is definately a good barometer

just remember to play smart, split the 3 ubers up and take out diabo/baal first, then work on mephisto alone

I ran ubers with my fury wolf with just about the same gear you originally listed (except um' jalals and had alot of resist charms).

Meph will be the only problem (as usual). With the 2 handed ribcracker (one of my all time favorite weapons in the game) it does leave you lacking for resistances. But it can be done.

Am i reading correctly you are going with out dracs? Life tap is needed!! no life tap in tristram is like going to work with no pants on  .

When i would get mana burned i would switch over to feral rage and that helped.

Jag: Clay Bizzle proposed using Feral Rage exclusively to take down the bosses. In theory, you would power it up outside Tristam then use it to take down the bosses with insane leeching effectively replacing the effect of Dracs.

No one has confirmed this strategy, but it seems reasonable. It also avoids wasting swings on the minions instead of the bosses.

Thanks Pheyd, looks like I'll need lifetap after all, since Mephisto can't be leeched and the other two have very high leech resistance. That's a lot of resists I'll be giving up in the gloves. Looks like I may need a little more time before I'm ready to go.

Still use feral rage to increase ias/ar and can be very handy in large packs of minions or when you are mana burned.
There really is no way around needing life tap for the big 3 (and lilith). I have survived the other 2 minis without it.

2) What should I socket Jalal's with? Um/Ber/other?
if you're lacking resists, go with Um

4) Do I need a CTA (I have one I can "borrow" from my Hammerdin)?
I dunno if you "need" it, but if you have access to one most definately use it.

5) I also have a low Metalgrid I could use instead of the HL ammy, should I switch?
I would use the metalgrid-it boosts AR, res and def, can't go wrong.

6) Anything else I need to know?
I dunno how rich you are, but I would get a runeword 1-handed weapon, LastWish being the best for obvious reasons, or even Death or Beast, then you can use an um'd stormshield or other nice shield with resists. Now you don't absolutely need a runeword, the ribcracker is a nice weapon with crushing blow, but there are other 1-handed weapons with cb that will still allow you to have a shield.

Also I use the very cheap IK belt, but it has nice reisists which are most important for Meph, you could always switch after killing him.

I haven't done ubers with my druid yet, but I have with my Frenzy Barb and I imagine it's viable. Barbs have the nice luxury of using Howl to scatter the minions, so it'll probably be tuffer with a druid. If you have a necro friend you trust, you can get him to cast life tap and terror for the minions, it helps a lot.

I don't know how true this is, but I've read a few times that having some poison dmg helps slow down the ubers health regen, so that's another thing to keep in mind. Good luck

Good luck with the Ubers!

I had problems with Lilith until I got my poison resists to 90% and now she's not a problem. I carry a set of unique armor that gives 90% poison resists just for her. Durial and Izual were not problematic, however watch out for IM during the Izual run. Life tap with the draculs is actually necessary to leech undead. None of the spirits lasted long enough to be significantly useful. My bear did ok, but I had to recast every few minutes. My merc got smashed very early in the melee. If you let the red portal get swarmed then you'll need a rescue party to go in and kill the mob. Use open wound to stop the insane healing (poison did squat) and use crushing blow like mad to knock the boss down some. Fury can help if no minions are close, feral for when you're in the mob.
CTC stuff very useful for mob control. Delerium help useful to confuse the mob and other stuff. I've got one weapon that does static field which combined with crushing blow seems pretty effective both in boss kill and mob control. My Merc with Faith bow would be really useful if she would just survive longer. The ravens will knock out a few of the mob (blind) and the vine just gets killed immediately. Bear is useful as meat shield when you have to make a strategic retreat or just block an incoming rush, but don't count on him lasting very long in a mob.
I have yet to solo uber tristram as of yet. I typically go in with a partner and do reasonably well. I have soloed the mini-ubers with good effect. I would guess that so long as you don't wake up more than one boss at a time, you'll probably be ok with a good wolf.

good luck and good hunting! (growf!)
