Re: ATMA/GoMule/RWM etc - Help Thread

about a month ago I got a new computer, I reinstalled gomule just as I had before. it will not run and it gives me this message when I try to start it.

I did get atma to work just fine, but honestly I MUCH prefer gomule. The computer I am using has windows 7 ( the old one did not). I'm not even sure if its a gomule problem or if its a java problem? my computer did not have java installed on it so I downloaded it from the java homepage

Thanks for the help if you can figure it out

Sorry for the earlier post Thyiad :whistling:

Re: ATMA/GoMule/RWM etc - Help Thread

We need a little bit more info from you. Namely are you using windows vista or windows 7?

If you are then ATMA may be accessing and making changes to a virtual character. The reason is that starting with windows vista Microsoft decided that it wanted to increase security, one measure was that not allowing programs changing the program files folder if they are not supposed to. Thus the virtual folders were born. You will need to enable hidden files/folders and go to here.
C: \Users\User_Name\AppData\Local\Virtual Store\Program Files\Diablo II\save
Change User_Name with your log on name and you should be able to find your saves. If your windows is 64bit the "Program Files" folder will look like this instead "Program Files (x86)"

Once you find out which are the most current I would suggest backing them up and reinstalling/moving your Diablo2 folder outside of the program files folder. This will eliminate all your woes. Try to remember which items you have muled as there is a possibility that you might dupe these accidentally.

Good luck
I found my saves now. Thank you.

What message? Does GoMule even open up? Are you able to open your characters or not? If you can open your characters, even if there is no inventory shown or if it says disconnect, look under the message tab and see which error it gives you and post it. Try re-downloading GoMule to see if the download was not corrupted.

On more thought I remember when I first got my laptop (win 7 on it) I could not seem to get java to install on it. I tried Firefox as I do not trust IE and it did not want to install. I got it installed by using the offline installer.

You might want to try and download the offline version of java installer.
Download page
http://www.java.com/en/download/manual.jsp
Offline version (direct link)
http://javadl.sun.com/webapps/download/AutoDL?BundleId=41723

You might also want to see if it is installed correctly (probably use IE for this)
http://www.java.com/en/download/installed.jsp

There is also a 64bit version that you can download. Its been a while since I installed java and now it just auto updates as needed. I do not remember which version I installed. However, you can have both installed with no problems. I know that Firefox is still 32bit iirc.

From Sun's java page
Java for both 32-bit and 64-bit IE browsers.
If you use both 32-bit and 64-bit browser interchangeably, you need a Java Plug-in for each browser. Hence you will need to install both 32-bit and 64-bit Java respectively.

Good luck.

Re: ATMA/GoMule/RWM etc - Help Thread

Just one question: I have my atma stash full of 1.12 items, do I have to take every item in the stash ---> put it in a 1.13 char ---> join a game with the 1.13 char, exit ---> open atma take the items that are now 1.13 and put them in a new stash where there are are there will be only 1.13 items? (or else something will get corrupted etcetera?)

Another question though it's not related to this thread: I had a trader profile here on this forum 1 year ago but now I see that the first trader profile in the thread is from late 2009, were all those trader profiles deleted? Do I need to start from scratch?

Re: ATMA/GoMule/RWM etc - Help Thread

When you load a game with a 1.12 item it becomes 1.13 for our purposes and can not go back into 1.12 if you want to trade. Most people just decided everything they owned was going to be 1.13 rather than keep separate 1.12 and 1.13 states.

All old trade profiles were deleted. Read the Trade Rules (they changed), make a trader profile and go from there. :)

sorry I forgot to put the link back in when I reposted it: here is the screen I was getting

I also get this

I did try to install the offline version, but that didn't work either. I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling java and gomule several times.

I currently have gomule right on the drive, but i'm not sure if it really matters where it goes. when I double click to start Gomule it asks me to select the program to open it with. there are like 10 different java applications and I have tried them all. maybe someone could post a shot of what there system says it runs gomule with? or if there are any other thoughts

I did originally use google chrome to download everything, but I tried it also with IE just to see, but no better

Thanks again

If JRE is installed correctly, jar file should be associated and opened with javaw.exe. On my computer, the default command to open a jar file is
Code:
"C:\Program Files\Java\jre6\bin\javaw.exe" -jar "%1" %*

From your screenshot, I guess when you were asked to select an app to open it, you selected java.exe. but the right command to start the application is
Code:
javaw.exe -jar GoMule.jar
or if you don't mind the console window
Code:
java.exe -jar GoMule.jar

To fix the problem, try uninstall and reinstall JRE 6.
If that still doesn't fix the jar file association, you will have to fix it by hand.
Try Jarfix.

Download, one click, amazing obviously that was all I ever needed. at least I didn't spend 5 hours of frustration to get to this point

as a way of saying thank you a serenade from our good friend Rod Stewart

you really don't know how thankful I am to everyone that has helped me on this :cloud9:

@kestegs I'm glad that little app worked for you. You are welcome. Thanks for sharing the song.

Re: ATMA/GoMule/RWM etc - Help Thread

Today I was using GoMule to move some things from one character to another (Spirit Shroud and Plague Bearer), and they just disappeared. I was trying to pick both of them up, but the little "hand" wasn't there (just the regular arrow cursor), I clicked each item and they both just disappeared without going into the item clipboard.

Now, these aren't hugely important items so it isn't a big deal, but I was wondering how this could happen so I can prevent it in the future, and if possible, get them back.

Before you go looking in backup files, see if it was accidentally moved into a stash or something. At the bottom of your selection screen is an option to see 'all' your items. If these were your only copies of these items you might be able to find them there. If these items are gone for sure, I believe that the back up .org files will work in Mac OSX as well.

I use windows so I do not know if it had something to do with your Mac or if it is a bug in GoMule. I could not reproduce it myself. I would see if it was caused by the fact that GoMule did not have the focus, or was not the top window. Also check to see if there was any other program running in the background that could have cause this.

Re: ATMA/GoMule/RWM etc - Help Thread

Hello,

I apologize in advance, as I'm sure someone has asked this question in the last 34 pages - I just haven't found that post or the answer. :(

I just downloaded ATMA, read through the instructions, opened my character's ds2 file and made a new dsx stash (all with Diablo II closed). I moved an item as a test from the inventory to the stash. I then opened Diablo II, closed ATMA, dropped the item from the character's inventory to the ground, saved, and quit the game.

I then reopened ATMA, moved the item back from the stash to the inventory, saved both stash and inventory, and closed ATMA. When I reopened my character in Diablo II, the item was still gone from the inventory and had not been moved back.

This is probably due to some basic misunderstanding of mine about how to use ATMA, what ATMA is for, etc., but any advice on how to actually get this working would be much appreciated.

Thank you!

Here is the steps I take to transfer items. This will work for ATMA and GoMule the same
I keep one closed while the other is open, never open concurrently
Close Diablo II after you have found an item that you want to keep/transfer
Open ATMA/GoMule and move the item
Close ATMA/GoMule, saving your characters and stash, do not rely on auto-save though
Open Diablo II back up and continue playing.

I believe that this was either caused by you not closing ATMA before opening your character in Diablo II AND/OR you are running windows 7/vista.

If it is win7/vista then either your saves might be in your Diablo II folder, but ATMA does not have the permission to change the files in the Diablo II folder. OR your saves are actually in the virtual folders that were created to keep programs from breaking.

Enable hidden files/folders and check for this folder
C: \Users\User_Name\AppData\Local\VirtualStore\Program Files\Diablo II\save
If your saves are in here then these are the actual saves not the ones in the C: \Program Files\Diablo II\save. You might need (x86) at the end of the program files folder if you are running 64bit.

Staring with Vista, MS decided to take more responsibility for the safety of the program files folder. Keeping programs that do not need to change files/folders in it not being able to. The easiest fix for this is to move/install your Diablo II folder outside the C: \Program Files folder. You do not need to do this you could just change the saves from the virtualstore, but it will save you a lot of headaches if you move it. Your game will run just the same and no permission problems will be found. Also move ATMA and GoMule outside of C: \Program Files as well if you move the Diablo II folder. Be sure to move your most current saves from either the VirtualStore or the real Program Files folder once you figure out which is the most current.

If I confused you then please let us know, either I or someone else can explain it better or help you if I was way off base. Good luck.

Re: ATMA/GoMule/RWM etc - Help Thread

I have no issues with ATMA using win7, so I doubt that would be his issue. I also rely on auto-save and it's worked a treat thus far, but I should keep that in mind.

Re: ATMA/GoMule/RWM etc - Help Thread

How do you copy and paste the stats of an item from GoMule? For example, if I want to put something in the item find thread, I highlight the stats of an item in a stash, try Command + C (I'm on a Mac), but nothing is there when I try to paste.

Edit: Sorry if this was answered in the previous pages, I looked but couldn't find anything.

I also have windows 7 so I know it works fine, but my key point was where the saves were kept. If you are not running as an administrator in windows 7/vista you are bound to run into permission problems. Just have a look at the other questions I have answered about windows 7 and vista, which is why I gave him the place to look for his saves in the virtual folders. Thanks for the info though.

I do not like auto-save, I am somewhat anal about making sure that I press save before I exit, and sometimes each time after a few items have been moved. It is not needed, but again that is just me making sure that it saves. This somewhat harkens back to my old days of computing when I was worried about saving just in case the program decided to crash unexpectedly. I know that the backups are there to prevent this, but old habits are hard to break.

Edit sorry just tried right clicking and it does not seem to work in windows GoMule at least. The control + C and Control + V worked however.

Below here might not help after all. Read the paragraph just above.
It may not know what to copy even though it is selected. I've had this problem before with certain types of applications. If you can right click or control click, I believe for macs is equivalent, on the text and choose copy that should solve your problem. If not hopefully someone with a mac can help.

Wow, all of the sudden it works, don't know what happened, but apparently your response was a good luck charm.

Or, more likely, I'm just an idiot.

Re: ATMA/GoMule/RWM etc - Help Thread

i've tried all the suggestions and I still can't seem to get to my characters with gomule this is very frustrating

To get the correct information you are:
Your computer is Win7/vista. Are you logged on as an administrator or do you have to type in a password every time you install a program? Finally are you playing on b.net or do you click on 'Single Player' and then play from there?

I cannot remember asking the last question. It is important if you do not already know this, but ATMA and GoMule only work in Single Player. If you already knew this then please do not get too mad at my asking.

Okay here is a run down of the tips that I think you have followed or should try:
1. If your saves are not in C: \Program Files\Diablo II\save
Then did you find the virtual folder? Try browsing there in windows and not inside of ATMA or GoMule. You also need to enable hidden files/folders to see the folder. It should be in this location or very similar. I have win7 and it might be slightly different in vista. I will do a search to find out where it is.
win 7 C: \users\User_Name\AppData\Local\VirtualStore\Program Files
win vista ?? It appears to be the same. If it is different please anyone that still has vista please fill it in.

2. Did you also give up on ATMA? If not where are you finding your saves? You should be able to browse to that folder and open them up in GoMule.

3. Try using windows search. Type in '*.d2s' in the search bar. You need the asterisk at the beginning, do not forget to include it. If you can find the folder they are in then you should be able to browse to that folder in ATMA and GoMule.

4. If all else fails try to see if someone else who is more computer literate than you, say a family member, come over and help you find your saves. I am not saying you are not computer literate, but sometimes a second set of eyes do wonders even if that person knows the same amount of computer stuff as you do or slightly less

Good luck and please keep us posted.

Re: ATMA/GoMule/RWM etc - Help Thread

When I try to open up 1 of my chars in atma it says it might be corrupted and asks if i want to continue loading. If I press yes or no atma displays the error message cant load C:\Program Files\Atma\Atma V\atma_gfx\xxx.dc6
It only happens to 1 of my characters, and it worked fine before with this character.

Anyone know how to fix this?
