OMG I'd forgotten that map feature.

Having learnt my lessons from my 2 early-necro-death episodes, I'm taking things veeeery slowly today. On the plus side, my boss is away at a conference today, so once all my work is *ahem* "dealt with", I can spend some time on D2.

Being an IT tech at a University when it's Summer holidays rules!:grin:

Kevin the (level 20) Frost Zealot has reached Lut Gholein. He´s only been in one slight jam: Catacombs level 2, trying to Zeal a Ghostly Dark Shaman to death. Ghostly monsters do cold damage, so he got chilled back, then surrounded by Dark Ones. Zealing while chilled can really be dangerous since you take so long to finish a cycle. I had to use a couple of rejuve potions in order to survive long enough to break free.

Equipment:
* Superior Ring Mail and Skull Cap, with a total of 5 chipped topazes. Good durability left on both.
* Rings with 5 and 12 MF
* Rare self-repairing gloves, boots and Targe (with 10%-units extra blocking), all with some small resists.
* Crappy magical (only some puny +Def) Belt (but it least it holds 12 potions)
* Tangerine Amulet
* Mace of Self-Repair (standard weapon)
* Gemmed 'Tir' Scimitar (waiting for an El)
* Superior 2s Mace with lots of durability (probably another future Steel weapon)
* Gemmed Hunter´s Bow with 3 chipped rubies


Kevin has a point in Cleansing, so he can heal up to full if he can find a quiet spot to rest.

The Horadric Malus is slow, but it did good damage with Zeal. Kevin used it until it broke (on Jail level 3).

He´s found only one S/U item - Gorefoot Heavy Boots. He left them to rot.

Andariel was defeated with Holy Fire-assisted arrows, some antidotes and healing potions, plus a lot of running. All her item drops were useless, I only kept two of the gems.
 
This thread has been very interesting to follow. I'm tempted to start up a paly, but I'm not sure. Having to remind myself to stop my usual practices during gameplay would be rather frustrating I'm sure ^^;.
 
I've been enjoying this thread, too. The number of times I've said to myself, "But why ... oh, yeah, you can't go to Town!" ... :laughing:

So, introducing So_Alone, the druid summoner :grin:
 
And someone has reached Harrogath...but it wasn't easy.

I found the City of the Damned WP about halfway around the map and left the other half of the map, just in case. How important that was!

The River went easily, the Chaos Sanctuary too. I left the Balrog seal until last, and it was the one where you can easily get cornered. Fortunately my wolves lured them all to the edge, then I was able to run past them and out into the main area with freedom to manoever. Once out, they were easily, but carefully dealt with. I left it on /players 8 all the way...do or die.

I did however put it down to players 1 for Diablo, and it was an epic struggle. I had him down to half his life and ran out of my single stack of arrows. I ran back out to the River WP and stepped up to the City WP and fought some Damned until I found more arrows then went back to Big D.

He'd healed to full (bugger!), so I tried again and got him down to about 1/4 life before I ran out of arrows again. Ran back to River WP, up to City WP, got 2 stacks of arrows from assorted critters, not muching around this time (I had dawdled the previous time...didn't expect that repair rate in normal!). I made it back to him and he was just over half. Plenty of arrows this time and he fell, dropping Ichorstring (which I have now on switch), Razortine which remained on his grave, and a few rares I ignored (all melee weapons).

That then meant I had to speak to the Angel to go to Harrogath. I wasn't sure I was going to get the skills because the quest sheet still said "Talk to Izual's Spirit", but yep, I got them and am looking forward to starting full clears of Act 5 so I can be the highest possible going into NM (I've been mostly clearing areas, but not full clearing and not taking unnecessary detours like the Hole, etc, as I wanted progress).

Diablo did manage to fire a couple of good shots at me, but I managed to survive because I saved this for the battle:

Not much happened. I gained two levels and I'm only one level closer to bone spear. I have a feeling this character won't last past Duriel. Any major fight I have, I have to run away to re-coup. I simply don't have the mana stores, the damage, or the tankage to take out duriel.

Maybe I can abuse some Iron Maiden trick, but I doubt that's going to do much of anything. Here's hoping.

They are broken now though, kinda pointless to keep.

Here is my equipment beginning act 2:

A 2 socket Crystal Sword with a Tal rune and a 20 psn damage jewel.
A Rare Self Repairing Fanged Helm
Broken Arctic Fur
Broken Cleglaws Shield
Replenishing rare Javelins with some nice elemental damage mods.
A rare eth light belt with some fire resist
A ring with half freeze duration and a ring with 25% reduced poison time
+5 strength amulet
regular chain gloves



Currently contemplating rather to go after Radament for the extra skill or to go for the Cube now.

I need the extra exp from the sewers...

Yeah I did that. Got through Radiment too.

Then on Halls of Dead level 3 I got stuck in a huge pack by the horadric cube chest where I got totally annihilated.

HumanMeatBlock's deeds of valor will be remembered... :cry:

I'm going to try this again, it's a great challenge.

Gonna go with something a little less difficult this time though.



 
Looks like fun - I will give this a go starting tonight. "DocWho" and prolly a necro. Once I get going I will add myself to the table.
 
Actually i think i'll use an enchantress for my second character. Decent fire damage, frozen orb as backup with nice mana regen and teleport for sticky situations.
LonelyMaiden is going to enter the field soon.

Well, if nothing else I totally own the dead/retired table. Died due to lack of resists and lack of potions. The biggest difficulty I'm experiencing is the lack of potions/lifesteal. It only takes 1 tough special monster on /p8 to wipe out your collection, and then you have to start from scratch again.

I'm going to have to think hard before my next attempt. I can't shake the feeling that a golemancer could be the way to go...

isn't it kinda cheating to do everything at /p8 to gain xp and then do the hard bosses and stuff at /p1-2-3?

anyway I'm in tal rasha's tomb right now, have the feeling duriel will kill me. unless I change to /p1, then it should be easy.

lol and I wast about to take duriel on /p8.
