Well, the good part is that once you have Infinity and/or Enigma, you don't need to run LK anymore!

I dream of having an Infinity some day, but I have a personal rule to never, ever make an Enigma. If I ever get a Jah I'll worry about what to do with it at that point (likely a Faith). Which is ironic because while I'm still fruitless in LK, last night over in the next county (Kurast Bazaar), either Battlemaid Sarina or one of her disciples dropped me my second ever Ohm so yes, if I ever find a Jah I will be making a Faith for sure!

No Enigma? May I ask why? I had the same rule for a very long time. I don't even remember why to be honest. Surely can't think of a good reason. It makes so many builds viable and / or much stronger, and incredibly more fun !!

It's strictly a personal view that it is too overpowered. Maybe it's just that from seeing all the guides on the interwebs that state Enigma as the only armor that works for a build, or from seeing the myriad of comments stating that builds aren't viable/doable without Enigma. I guess I just have difficulty accepting the unlimited teleporting it grants as an armor. If the +1 Teleport was removed in a future patch, I would likely change my tune about it. I do appreciate that I'm being a little hypocritical, what with so many other rune words out there like Grief or Infinity that can also be considered overpowered.

It's actually a moot point anyway, because the likelihood of me finding a Jah and a Ber, much less enough of them to make Faith, Chains of Honor, and Infinity first are pretty much zero anyway based on how relatively little I play (only 5-10 hours per week).

I've never made an Enigma, and been fine without it. But, I really want to make one this time around. My Rune luck has been so bad lately that a Jah seems like it's a million miles away.

I've made an Enigma when I found a Jah rune. I have no real use for it, however. Most of my D2 activity is finishing the grail with my Blizzard sorc, being stuck at -2, missing Griffon's and Mang Song's.

A propos grail: Does anybody follow a grail variant involving failed uniques, i.e. you also have to find all failed uniques for those base items of which there's no unique? I'm asking because I found a failed unique archon plate today (180 durability IIRC) and I think I posted a screenshot of a failed unique vortex shield a year ago or so.

I agree that Enigma is broken. I think it should come with a severe penalty, like -100% FCR. Even then, I guess it would still be a rather popular runeword.

If Enigma didn't have Teleport, it'd just be a rich man's Skullder's the same way CoH is a rich man's Vipermagi.

With that being said, if you're not into PvP or MFing with non sorc builds, not having one doesn't seem like that big a deal. It's way higher in utility than a Faith, probably, but ymmv.

I am in the boat that says Enigma is the best armor of all time and I'm glad I made one and I would do it again. If it ONLY had +1 Teleport and no other bonuses I would still wear it. Enigma is literally the difference between being able to fly like Superman or having to walk like Clark Kent.

However yes, I do wish there was an excuse to wear like a 1.07 Arkaine's or even a Fort every once in a while. Having a single "best" item does limit creativity a bit. Not to mention it makes finding items like Tyrael's bittersweet. I mean if any armor deserves to be the definitive best it's the rarest item in the game.

EDIT: Just in case I sounded elitist in that post, I apologize. But I do know what it's like to play with and without high runewords like Enigma. I ran an entire RFO with dual Oaths. Heck I did an entire sept wearing the full Disciple set. So I can completely respect if you choose not to make a particular runeword and honor your decision.

Agreed. Tyrael's is trash. What was blizzard thinking? Just giving it a +2 skill bonus would have been reasonable. Most of those elite uniques would have been great in the 1.09 era, but they really outdid the game balance.

Before 1.10, you had to work with what you found. Magic items, rares, sets, etc. were all great in most cases. The fact is though, none of these items compete with runewords. They don't give ridiculous stats, or oskills or auras (with a few weak exceptions). Even then: giving Assassin's whirlwind? Seriously? Why make a whole new character if the best weapon gives her a Barbarian skill? CtA? Who needs a Barb for multiplayer anymore... Enigma? Hope you like a channel full of C-baal bots...

Personally I think classic ~1.06 was the most balanced era for Diablo II. If the expansion left a hole in the road, then 1.10 left a god da** crater. Good thing we can go backwards in SP, and many people on here do :)

It seems I've created quite the stir here.

Getting the thread back on track, I'll echo your comment above, @darkstarhub. My Trapsin did the Hellforge Quest in Hell last night, and yippee - yet another Hel rune. Of my seven characters, I've had 3 Hels, an Io, a Lum, a Pul, and a Gul. Yippee indeed.

I let myself be inspired by that untwinked 99 thread so I started an untwinked Wind Druid. His rune luck has been mesmerizing to say the least.

I did some 700-800 Meph runs and got this, my first one:

I then switched targets and ran Pindle for a while and got this, also my first one:

Which ended up becoming this:

On top of this I found Vex, Gul and Um runes (the Vex quickly became a Hoto), but forgot to take a screenshot. I also found a Lo rune, but it was too much going on to get a screenshot.
The druid is level 89, and I have not done LK pretty much at all.

Screw LK, Mephisto is defenetily the best place to farm HR's. He coughed up two Jah's for me within 1000 runs. And like you, I later switched to Pindle, who gave me a third Jah in the first 500'ish runs.

My untwinked Barb is chugging away in the LK, however. Managed to find a Vex and Mal (last missing rune for Oath..gotta get that base now..), so far, and some very sweet jewelry, but I can't find the screenshots I take, nor my Save folder  If I search for his name, nothing shows up.

That depends entirely on your luck. I've ran single targets 1000+ times with no runes. But Council on the other hand, usually coughs something up every now and then. The highest I've ever seen a boss drop is Mal.

NamlessPenguin, check your "C:/users/<user>/Saved Games/Diablo II" folder. Remember it's different in 1.14 ;o
