I'm using a phase blade, because it hits the breakpoint without needing a high IAS roll on the Grief. An eth zerker would be slightly better, I hear, but I like staying sword mastery on this barb.

Grats on the drops today! That's where I got my SoJ too.

@bodry - yes, those are the ebugs. Socket a Zod, open the char in Atma, move the weapon, save in Atma, Hel the Zod away in Diablo = boom, ebugged weapon, still indestructible, open sockets. It still works.

I got a Zod from Pindle once. my precious....

So I couldn't get to sleep because of the one missing Mal rune. I geared up the lightning sorc, started running Countess. Third run netted an Um rune, and after that 90 minutes of silence. I was about to lay down, when a Mal rune dropped in the last round! I cubed up the gifts of Travincal in like 30 seconds. My first Grief has born. I'm glad that I made it in a Phase Blade (thanks for the tips!). Look at the ias/dmg roll, JESUS. No comment... At least still a Grief, it wrecks the Council at double speed. :)

First run with the new setup, good start:

Good night to everyone! :)

ATMA bug a berserker axe. No repair costs either. Better weapon. Less stylish then the phase blade though.

just bare in mind that despite the fact it is allowed on these forums it is essentially editing an item in a third party program (The bug is with atma not D2). you'll have to decide for yourself if you are comfortable with this.

Isn't the Phase Blade a little faster for most characters?
It's much, much faster for all characters. The only drawback to Phase blade is the lower range.

If it only worked with zods it would be really expensive. But it works with all RW's that give the indestructible mod. On top of my head Death would be the one you'd use in a weapon for Grief as they have the same amount of sockets.

Oh and mind what JCakes said. It's forumapproved, but not really part of the program so there are people that avoid it for that reason.

You COULD just socket the item with a zod in 1.09 and then move it forward and unsocket =)

This has been an urban myth for years on this forum, but I don't think it's ever been tested. It's one of those things I hope to see happen one day.

From someone else (don't remember, can't find it):
Prior to 1.10, you couldn't clean items out of sockets. It was the introduction of the hel + tp + socketed item recipe that allowed for items to be zod bugged. The zod rune granted indestructibility by setting the max durability to 0, a property that was not removed when the zod was hel'd out. This was fixed on the realms be a server side patch shortly after 1.10 came out. I do not believe this has ever been fixed in single player.

If there are any indestructible, ethereal socketed items/runewords on ladder during this season, then they are due to a different bug.

I'm confused. I thought the Hel recipe didn't exist before 1.09, but is there some way not to obliterate the Zod when unsocketing in 1.09?

EDIT: Oh, okay. So theoretically one could ATMA bug a base without ATMA in 1.09.

I was under the impression that bugged eth fortitude armors and other things existed solely because of 1.09 zod'd armors which have been kept for years and reused via the hel + tp recipe

Makes sense--this would be the only explanation other than some weird way of bugging/cheating since ATMA bugging only works with weapons.

I read before that it should work like this:

- When using a Zod in 1.07, 1.08 and 1.09 it will rewrite any item's durability (Like ATMA does for weapons)

- Unsocketing only appeared in 1.10 as we all know

It sucks because adding sockets recipe only appeared in 1.10 iirc, so we can't defense bug a shield/armor before using the zod bug :( :p

Ah, that's tragic. I was getting excited reading your post until I read that last line. Not that I'll probably ever start playing and old version and find/cube enough Zods that I'd be using one to bug an armor in to make a runeword... but it's a cool idea.

You can't cube Zods before 1.10. So a Zod really needs to drop (lol).
Remembering this every time makes me cry.

I think there are only 2 realistic approaches to this:

p3+ cows (whatever is most efficient) or A5 objects (super chests, surely ONE of the p settings is bound to have a zod in 1.07, 1.08 or 1.08...)

That is 4 x 3 x 66000 ~ 790000 drop patterns (more if you count different versions of 1.09 which I suspect you would)
