23 Runeword Search Thread

Probably no one else on, but USEast has been down for a while. Possibly because Blizzard is tinkering with (or activating?) Runewords?


Nevermind...just got back on and have been informed it was a local problem...dream shatterers...

Shaft had been talking about scheduling some USEast runs. Dawns is working on a USWest classic forge rusher. I think Ikeren was going to start a USEast classic forge rusher.

I don't have characters strong enough to rush all the way to hell on expansion (although I could do NM forge rushes). I also have never done them, so someone will have to show me the ropes--what minimum quests need to be done, how to get them assigned to the rushee, et cetera. Otherwise, I'm more than willing to be a rushee if the times match up.

I may be on some this afternoon and/or tonight. I'll look for my USWest fellows...

EDIT: Also, maybe you're making a joke and I'm missing it, but you do realize, Zephyrus, that we're organizing forge rushes to get runes to use for testing, right?
 
Of course, Wathombe, but it'd be nice if I could get myself better equipment to do these rushes more efficiently. Now, if you have something against me using these forge rushes for my own purposes, by all means, tell me and I'll respect your wishes. Come on, I did throw away 4 runes for that gemmed Dacian Falx :D

I need a bunch of rushees and that's it. I don't need any rushes because I've already got a D2X rusher that can do the job in hell.

About learning the ropes....
Beforehand, ask if your rushee will want all the wps or not. Make sure you have enough TPs on hand before going anywhere.
Act 1 - Kill Andariel and that's it. Just remember that whenever you kill any superunique monster that requires a quest, always have the rushee nearby. In Catacombs 4, you can tp near the stairs up to Catacombs 3 and leave the rushee there, where they will be safe from harm and still get the quest.
Act 2 - If they don't have the Horadric cube, get it for them. Then, go get the shaft and the ammy parts. Tell them to make the Horadric staff and MAKE SURE THEY TALK TO DROGNAN! Force them if they don't listen. Then, go to Arcane Sanctuary and find the Summoner, tp for your rushee, and kill the summoner (make sure the summoner is trying to kill you and not the rushee). Let them open the book for good measure as it might screw up the quest if you do it. Find the right tomb, tp for the staff to open the tomb, and kill duriel.
Act 3 - Kill the Council. Make sure your rushee is nearby, as the quest won't work if they are, say, at the waypoint. Kill all the members, not just the superuniques, and kill any lingering monsters around, including the water watchers as they all can pose a threat to your rushee. Go to Durance and go all the way to Mephisto. Kill any monsters that might follow you to Mephisto himself and then tp when the area is clear. Kill mephisto, make the rushee take the stone and leave.
Act 4 - This is the most annoying part of any rush (besides if you're too weak to actually kill monsters on your own). This is where you will be the most frustrated, especially after doing tons and tons of rushes. NEVER EVER concede to killing Diablo before doing the Hellforge. Unfortunately, there are tons of dishonest people who are just straight bastards. Therefore, they'll either make some excuse about not being there or just leave when you're at the Forge. Always do that quest first, and that will save you at least a bit of agony before your rushee cons you. Also watch out for those very low level rushees (maybe lvl 1 and around there). Don't rush them, especially if you go to Mephisto and they drop a Nightmare Soulstone before picking up the Hell one. That means that in the last rush they got in NM, they didn't give the stone to their last rusher. Anyway, do the Hellforge quest then go to the Chaos Sanctuary. Touch all the seals and only tp when you've got Diablo about to come out as again, the place is dangerous for your rushee.
Act 5 - If this applies, just go to the Ancients' Way and find the Arreat Summit stairs. TP before going on to the summit and then make your rushee make their own tp at the entrance. Then you can both go to the summit and if either of you dies, you can use the tps. Remember that tps will disable the Ancients and vice versa. Kill the Ancients and then you're done with the rush.

There will always be a good chance that your rushee will die. Just make sure you watch for them and make sure you're careful before killing any bosses. Wait to kill the boss when your rushee has come back from death. If it's too late and you've killed the boss, make sure your rushee has stayed dead and not respawned. When a character is dead, and their corpse in the immediate quest vicinity, they will get the quest if they don't respawn when it happens.

here's some tips to make things a little easier/faster for rushing

1) if your rushee does not have a cube, you can always just give him/her yours. you might feel a little naked without your cube, but you won't need it yet and you will get one from the Councils in act 3 :evil:
2) when you kill Duriel, your rushee doesn't have to be in the chamber when you kill him. yeah i know, it will say, "You cannot complete this quest. This quest has been completed by another player." Just make sure the rushee talks to Tyrael and the quest will continue. (If you're rushing, don't talk to Tyrael) also when your rushee is at Jeryhn, he/she can go into the harem and open a tp, to be in the area of Meshif, so you won't have to walk all the way back
3) there's a small walkway behind where the Councils are. you can tp your rushee there and kill and he will be close enough to get the quest without dying
4) when you reach the Chaos Sanctuary, just above the star where Diablo spawns is a corner where your rushee can stand and be protected against all of Diablo's attacks (unless Diablo actually walks to the rushee)
(you may notice most of these tips are to keep your rushee alive, which will make things faster, that and i play hardcore so that's just how i do it :uhhuh:

as for requirements to go on..

1) in act 2, your rushee needs to talk to Drognan and Cain (Drognan to move the guard at the palace) after completing the viper quest (Quest 3) in order to take your tp to Arcane Sanctuary
2) your rushee needs to complete the Summoner quest (Quest 5) in order to take your tp to the Tal Rasha Tombs
3) in act 3, your rushee needs to talk to Cain after completing the Councils Quest (Quest 5) in order to take your tp to Durance of Hate (you only need to kill the super unique ones)
4a) (if necessary) your rushee needs to complete the Ancients quest (Quest 5) in order to take your tp to the Worldstone place
4b) if you are just there to complete the Baal quest, then there are two options. 1: your rushee has to have completed the Ancients Quest. 2: your rushee has to be partied with someone who is getting the Baal quest (as the rushee waits in town)

Thanks for the crash course. And Zephyr, as shaft once pointed out to me, it's always better to use a rune to improve one's character than to test a word, because then the character can more efficiently find other runes for testing. If we get forge runs together, you get the first Vex that drops, deal?

Interesting. I assume the Indestructible mod is from the superior tag? I didn't think superiors could spawn as indestructible items. Can anybody who knows more than I verify?
 
Was looking at the rune graphics today and noticed that Ohm and Ist are quite similar in appearance. What if the new (or old) words have clues in the rune art? Maybe if you put them all together they form a picture, or all look similar? Probably nothing, but as we don't really have anything else to go on, perhaps someone with the appropriate programs could tinker with this.

No, that doesn't make them indestructible.
 
D2.net is still pretty buggy for me, but thankfully Wathombe sent me an adress to go directly to RPG forums. Thanks for all the work while I've been unconnected.

Zepyr Andy Ike and other rushers, Rushing would be fabulous to increase the high level runes available to this search, but as you might notice Wathombe and I don't get much connected play time. If someone could begin organizing rush times I'd be happy to assist in advertising etc... Just let us know, or simply post (your own thread or in the player match up thread) when you'd like to do the rushing.

(Can't remember who asked), The PS2 page that links up through a google search is likely the wrong name of the game header. The formulae match up exactly with Dii.net's beta runeword page except they actually have names for the runewords. I am adding novel recipes from these lists to my "master" list if anyone would like to test. This will probably take a week or more until completion.

Keep up the great work and thanks for the recent Um influx to knock of 1.07 words updating threadside lists today.

I too plan on publishing an Excel spreadsheet. I may look for a convenient way to convert it to HTML for viewing for the MS Office challenged. If I can find a good way, I can do the same for Shaft.ed and wathombe's spreadsheets.

I'll probably wait to incorporate any latest updates in your version, Shaft.ed. I'm also going to try and stockpile some lower end runes on East with my limited playing time. If anybody needs low-end runes to try stuff out, let me know.

I haven't done a weekly update thread this week for obvious reasons (I think last week's is still on the front page, at any rate). If there's enough traffic and enough progress, I'll do one tomorrow.

Again, I'm all for it if enough people can match up a time. I'd also be happy to advertise for the West realm. As for my own participation, I've got my parents coming into town for ten days starting tomorrow, so I may or may not be able to block out two hours at a time for a rush, unless it's very late at night.
