23 Runeword Search Thread

We can finally lay to rest the question of whether the new runewords are active or not yet. This from a mod on the b.net forum this morning:

With that said I can say that the new rune words are real, they are out there, but we are not ready to announce them yet.

EDIT: Now updated: shaft's runeword spreadsheet

Sorry, I am back now. I've been busy the last few days...my forge rusher is only 30, but I am oging to be playing him the rest of the night, so hopefully a bit higher soon. I am going to be gone sunday to sunday, so even If I hit 50 by sunday, it won't do us much good. Sorry.

Edit: Whoa, what is up with that superior cap? Besides the indestructable mod, look at the defense. Skull Caps start at 8. I thought caps maxxed at 4 or 5? Even with a perfect superior mod (20%?) that's 6 defense...and that defense isn't in blue, like I'd expect it to be. Really bizaar.

Yet another spreadsheet...

Here is my spreadsheet with (hopefully) the latest updates as well...

Phaeax's Runeword Excel Spreadsheet

I'm going to try and get more info there, possibly in both HTML and PDF. Any suggestions are welcome.

Edit: And being super-observant, I just noticed this... welcome to the Forum Pals, wathombe!

I took the time to study the original runewords (1.07 list) and what has made it into the game and have gathered a few important (and many unimportant) pieces of info. I haven't figured out how to present it coherently on the forum, but I'll send Wathombe a version of the updated spreadsheet.

Basically what I found is that item types are least likely to be changed followed by rune number and then finally by recipe (which is rarely kept constant). Where items are changed severely tends to be creating new body armor recipes. Finally I tabulated the original two socket recipes from the 1.07 list and it does look like helms are our best bet.
Breakdown
Helms: 11
Body: 1
Shields: 2

General Weapons:3
Melee: 3
Axe: 3 (+6 from melee and weapon)
Sword: 3 (+6)
Dagger: 3 (+6)
Club: 2 (+6)
Mace: 3 (+6)
Scepter: 3 (+6)
Spear: 3 (+6)
Hammer: 1 (+6)
Wand: 1 (+6)

So still maintain that blanket two socket testing is the best way to go about finding the new runewords and I think it is a good idea to concentrate on helms even though there is the class specific issue. One interesting note is that only three recipes were maintained from the original list outside of the four released later (prudence, duress, splendor, wind), these were: Ancient's Pledge, Fury and Rhyme. However, only two changes were made outside of rune recipe these were for Stealth (went from a scepter to body armor) and for White (originally 3 socket wand which doesn't exist). The 1.10 recipes were more altered but still maintained a trend of quite similar item types but socket numbers were changed less then 50% of the time.

Further to Shaft's excellent points above, I noticed earlier in the week that there really aren't that many active helm recipes. There are only four, and only one of them is used all that often, to my knowledge (Lore). Among 23 new runewords, I would expect they would add a fair number for helms.

Unfortunately, of the four active, three of them use strictly low runes (Sol or below), so new helm recipes may be pricey.

Shaft also updated his spreadsheet a bit during the day, so here's the current version: shaft's runeword spreadsheet

srry about not posting for the last week but this site has been down for me for pretty much the whole week. I think i'll start rune hunting again on monday, this week i had tennis try outs for my school so i had to put a large portion of my time into that. Also while playen d2 i ahve mostly been mfing (found a arachs :) and another gheeds). But i should start on the war path on monday.

I thought I was going crazy! I'm glad to see someone else had troubles getting to this thread. I had just started to read it and it was yanked away from me, so I stopped doing Countess runes (only did 5 of 'em). Anyways, here are the ones I tested:

Hydra Sword - Amn + Tal (gemmed)

Sup War Hammer - Ral + Eld (gemmed)

Decapitator - Ort + Tir (gemmed)

Broad Sword - Eth + Nef (gemmed)

Helm - El + Sol (gemmed)

If these are added to ur database I'll continue on with the cause. It's kind of weird to me that there aren't many more tested reciped from wathombe's spreadsheet. I made each of these in 5 consecutive runs while finding the items to socket along the way.

Well guys - FWIW my playing time is probably mostly done for the next month or so. My wedding is saturday and then I'm off on the honeymoon for 3 weeks. I did get a new laptop - but between driving and, well, honeymooning - I'm not thinking there will be D2 time. I also gave up on beating the ancients in hell w/ my sorc and am now at lvl 69 w/ a hammerdin in act 1 hell. I've got a decent bit of runes for testing at some point - maybe I'll try blowing off a bunch of 2 socket checks this weekend.

dansls1 - congrats on the upcoming marriage, man - have fun honeymooning!

Okay, back to runewords. Again, as my first post was utterly ignored....

If ANYONE on USEAST LADDER is interested in assembling a hell cows team (for finding legit high level runes) let me know. This is a faster way than cubing the Gul's you get off of hellforges for the higher ones, or saving enough IST's up to but a 99% duped Zod (well, not faster, but safer). It doesn't take as long as everyone thinks, and I think I would have more to offer obtaining runes for use than randomly guessing them with my own.

And whisper *gods_pawn on USEAST Ladder if you need rushes on LoD for those runes. Don't worry about me stealing them, I have plenty of my own. Plus you could post it here if I did, and I love these forums, I would not want to get banned from them. Normal, Nightmare or Hell, I can do it all, up to the Forge, that is.

Freakin:

I've added your results to the spreadsheet, thanks. And on the contrary, the group has done quite a lot of testing. Somewhere between four and five hundred words have been tested. Keep in mind that the largest focus has been on the 1.07 recipes and 2os body armor. Everything below Lem has been tested in 1.07, and everything below SolSol (or so) has been tested in armors.

Updated spreadsheet here.

Dan:

Congratulations! And take my advice: leave your laptop at home when you go on your honeymoon. I did, and I was glad. We'll see you in October. Have a great time!

If I were on East, I would totally take you up on that, but I'm not, so I can't. Zephyr has been similarly helpful to me on West, btw.

Wow...I originally went to this forum to check and see the clvl required to get a +2 all skills for crafting amulet, instead I ended reading nearly this entire thread. I'm willing to contribute a warm body for west forge rushes, as I'm curious to even see the new words. Account is YellowDyeNo5.

Have someone tryed "ALE" in a helm??
Becouse Geglag....(something) is always drunk. So why drink water if yu can drink ale?? (beer).

This is my 2 cents

Hello,

i have found a post from kenny-z where he verifies that the runewords are activated. I am not sure if i am allowed to post the link, so i do not.
(if i am allowed, i will OR send me a pm)
As there was some dispute about whether they are allready activated or not I thought this would be helpful. At least our efforts are not futile.

Sorry I have not tested anything but I am helping a friend to get his hammerdin to hell atm.

Hello I have a nice fury zon that does cows very well. If you need some help in trying to run some cowssssss let me know. mga_toughe, mga_tough2

Hi everybody! Here is my 2 cents.

Some 2 socket armor testing:

ShaelEl
ShaelOrt
ShaelSol
ShaelHel
ShaelIo
HelIo
IoEl
IoTir
IoNef
IoIth
IoHel

And all failed! :(

Crusader I think it would be too risky, as you would be posting a link to a hack supporting forum

(Seriously though, somebody already pointed it out 2 pages ago...with quote, but no link, oddly enough).

Hi folks,

just out of curiosity - is anybody here trying runewords on Europle Realm?

wathombe, your sheet says that "Red" needs retesting - if so, please note that I tried it on a 3s two-handed-sword, ended up gemmed. Tested on Europe Realm, as you may guess. ;)
