23 Runeword Search Thread

Now THAT is something...let's see what we can do with that.

Orc is each - Ort/Ohm Ral Cham...I'd say in an axe, for it being an orc. Somebody? Try 1h and 2h respectively.

Human - Hel Um Mal Amn Nef, again very well defined...

Elf or Elves- TOUGH...very tough. Do they have a proper name in their own language? El Fal in a knife? El Vex El/Eth/Eld Sol/Sur in a bow? WAY too many options...:(

Dwarf - Uh-oh. W? Do they have a proper name in their own language? In a hammer...or armour if there's a good proper name. Maybe in a shield, too...

Gnome - Gul Nef Ohm/Ort Mal Eth/El/Eld. Expensive...in...what? Staff would be guess 1.

Tauren - Tal Amn Um Ral El/Eth/Eld Nef, not bad...probably in a club, barb helm, or any helm.

Undead - Um Nef Dol El/Eth/Eld Amn Dol? Maybe Lich, since your characters really are, Lum/Lem Io/Ith/Ist Cham Hel? Most likely in helm or armour.

Trolls/Troll - Tal Ral Ohm/Ort Lem/Lum Lem/Lum Sur/Sol or without...in what though?

These are really long though...there's DEFINITELY something here though, what with Blizzard trying to promote WoW through D2.
starcraft cheat to win was thereisnocowlevel or whatever to tell us that in diablo 1 there was no cow level. Blizzard is whorish mean like that.

"Aman'Thul, the Highfather of the Pantheon" - Amn+Thul If you can't see this you're blind. Suggestions for this? No Idea, but it's 2 fairly low mid runes, try it in EVERYTHING.

After reading this post I figured Amn + Thul had to be tried so I tried it
in the 3 most obvious things:

Armor (Cuirass - Didn't work)
Helm (Superior Skull Cap - Didn't work)
Shield (Kite Shield - Didn't work)

Hope this helps. ~psy

I don't mean to be a party pooper, but if you've read the last few pages you'd notice that most of the possible permutations are being mentioned. I really think it's extremely difficult to draw any conclusions from the possible clues Blizz has given us. Really the only ones I feel are worth testing are Pul/Fal and Um/Mal from Kenny's quiz and some of the cheaper WoW history name combinations (Thul Ral, Amn Thul etc.). There are just too many possible clues running around and not enough runes to test them all.

BTW Cmdr, no socketed throwing weapons for Zod Gul Amn.

Also wanted to mention, I just keep my grids all the way up to Zod in case someone is crazy enough to use one. What you stick in an item is completely up to you (I bow to those possessing great runes :worship: ), just make sure you tell me about it

FWIW, I did a complete text search of the Warcraft history for runes and item types. Click here for the MS Word document with runes highlighted in yellow and item types/specific item names highlighted in green.

I didn't really see any exact patterns, but the following points are of note:
--several items or item types were mentioned several times, including armor, sword, breastplate, helm, and naga;
--almost all the runes appeared in the text at least once, with six exceptions (shael, ko, vex, ohm, jah, zod); and
--certain text strings appeared that included overlapping runes (eld, hel, elo, elem, ortal, talo, ulo).

Dan and Aron:

Okay, so we can use the race names as acronyms, but what about the cities and classes, some of which are too long to use as acronyms for recipes with <= 6 runes?

Cmdr:

All good ideas and grist for the mill.

Psy:

Thanks for testing. Logged and uploaded in spreadsheet.

Click here for my post on the philosophy of testing Io and below, which is by and large a philosophy of feasibility. Shaft's grids for armor and helms extend all the way up to Zod. I suppose I'd be happy to add lines and columns for runes up to Zod for my grids if everyone wants, simply for posterity's sake, but I really do think we are best off focusing on Io and below for multiple item types rather than trying to reach toward Zod (or Mal or whatever) for one specific item type.

I'm not going to read your philosophy, but there is an error in your logic. First of all, I don't view the runes Lum, Ko, Fal, Lem, Um, and Mal as expensive runes. As you look through the pages of whatever it is that you guys were talking about, (btw could you post a link so I can see too), you might come to suspect there to be a high chance of a certain combination that involves one of the runes I mentioned. That being the case, I make my case that you should add these runes I mentioned to your grids. ~psy

For those of you who replied to my aweful luck:

Yes, they were single player games. All hell.

In the future I am going to try to hit her up before Baal runs.

You five are all on east, softcore, ladder?
Include me (Ikeren_G) and think we should do some hellforge rushing? 1 big game, everyone gets to act 4 (at level 1...I could use my 88 hammerdin, he can run past everything in normal)...then split the games off as we move around finishing the 5 rushed characters hellforges...then at the end we can deposite the 5 runes (plus any gained during the rush) to a mule, and then in the end, set them up for another round of runeword testing? It probably would be a good idea to go for the Barbarians too, and shenk is quick, so if anybody needs socketing for any of their gear, we could do that...make it time well spent.

One of the things I thought was If we try EVERY (sure, it'll take a while...but we are at a great! start) combination using the bottom 11 runes (the easy to find ones...1/3rd), we should find at least 1 rune word...once we have found that one, we can see how it is made and try to figure out a more logical pattern of progressions

(My assassin got a Nef on her normal hellforge...I almost puked)

Hey, psy:

I'll work on adding rows and columns to my grids, at least up to Lo (b/c it fits easily, and that's the highest Hell Countess drops). It's a bit of a pain for me to modify the worksheets for all 16 item types individually now that there are test results in some of them, but I'll do it slowly over the next few days.

In the meantime, shaft's armor grid (downloadable here, although he hasn't sent me an update in several days (ahem)) and shaft's helm grid both go all the way to Zod.

Incidentally, testing multiple item types up to Io was just my stated plan, i.e., what I was going to work on. I just made my grids available for public consumption, if helpful. It seemed that we were hitting a wall above ThulThul or so on testing, so it would be beneficial to test other item types beyond armors. If and when I get higher runes, they're all going to testing, too.

What links do you need, btw? I think we've posted everything at least once, and there aren't that many other sources, anyway. We were checking the Kenny-Z trivia questions daily at the b.net forums, but he's stopped those. The WoW information we've been culling through is also available via the b.net front page. The only site we haven't posted is the one that's censored on this forum, and I'd be happy to e-mail you the link if you want. E-mail me here. Otherwise, if there's a specific link you need, just name it and I'll repost it.

Proud to say that I have tested 4 runewords and hope to test more by tonight.

Helms:
Dol Tir - Armet
Ral Hel - Sallet

Armor:
Shael Ith - Light Plate
Eth Thul - Full Plate

Shael+Tir = gemmed demonhide armor 2 socket :(

I'd be all up for doing some Hell forge rushes, but because of my horrible resistances I'm a lvl 80 trapsin in Act 3 Hell. I have the eye and brain, plus the flail, but missing one the piece below the bazaar. Plus I do play SC East but I usually am not on till after work. So around 1130PM on east coast is about the time I am on, till around 4am. Friday and Sat I am on most of day soloing. If your on, send a whisper to Talascoma and we can do some runs.

(you can assume that things I list don't work, heh)
Armor:
Ith Io - Field Plate
Shields:
Nef Hel - Hyperion
Ort Eth - Superior Gothic Shield

i'm not trying to flame here, but i must say this thread is totally out of whack with the reality of the situation. nobody's actually going to read through all of it to see what's been tested or not before they try. if they're even going to try at all. 90% of the people on battle.net i talk to think i'm lying when i talk about new runewords, they really have no idea wtf i'm talking about. we need some kind of more organized way of documenting this whole runeword search situation.

...

well I haven't thought that far ahead, but perhaps a secondary thread whereas you're not allowed to actually discuss the runewords but merely allowed to document what combinations you've tried. another thing is, has anyone tried e-mailing Blizzard and just asking them for hints or the actual runewords, although it's probably been done and i doubt they'd tell us, but if not, then maybe it's worth giving a shot don't ya think.

I also read earlier in this thread that there were X million combination numbers. is this in consideration to the fact that the same rune is never used in the runeword twice? if not, well this could lessen our combinations quite a bit. although it'd still be in the million range i'm sure. i'm starting to think there is an actual pattern, i don't think we'd actually get the 23 runewords before the end of the ladder otherwise. perhaps we ought to start looking at the history of how runes were created and why...into play maybe that'd give us hints. a good idea is to start by realizing that runes were part of northern european culture and nothern europe was considered "barbaric" during the times that runes were created. they were created as symbols and not a language per se. they were created without curved lines so as they could be carved into trees and stones. now the runes in the game have curved lines so that's kinda outa the question. but maybe the barbarians created them. and maybe the hints could be found in act 5. since runes only came out with the expansion set it'd be a safe assumption. perhaps there are built in hints or server side updated hints like a tapestry or a wall somewhere in the game that always spawns, or even spawns once in a while. u know. that'd be a good way of hinting stuff to us. even if it was just the symbols. .. . anyways that's my 2 cents

anyone wanna trade some Jah runes for my 2 cents? haha

Well, wathombe's spreadsheet has all of the documented testing listed of a) the 1.07 list, b) the 'hints' trials from kenny-z's game and c) the 2-socket blanket grid testing. It shows up on at least every other page of this thread. If I'm going to be testing - I find the last posting of it and dl it, update my copy to include any more posts in the thread and then test away - and post the results.
As far as hints - I still feel the only thing that makes sense is the World of Warcraft / D2 'world's collide' world event - and that they are really trying to sell WoW to us D2 users - therefore that's where the answers will be found.
