i am up for the journey to hell, i have been hoping something like this would come up, but have been at a loss of time to post something like it....
anyways i am not on west, but that doesnt matter at all since it is untwinked, so ya, whatever, i will never be on my west acnt, call me on east *alphaomega4444 (which is the same as my west) or here
 
id be up for starting a new character and taking the journey to hell...
might i add its alot more tricky and will be much mroe worth it in the end, but i would suggest doing it hardcore, brings alot more fun to the game knowing how easily you can get killed :-)
 
Hardcore: if B.ent hiccups you die, so I'll never play hardcore.

USWest: I only have one character on there, since the other - with runes - expired, now. If I'm not doing anything important on SEast and you're all on, I might give that a shot. Don't know how the mix would be, though; all-paladin builds, pure paladin builds, non-melee paladins... why am I suddenly thinking paladins?

Mules: Only one left to perm, then cubifying. 5OS phase blade and ethereal balrog blade on SocketedMules//SocketMuleA.

Mules: SocketedCrap//SocketedCrapP now has a 31/93/5 Spirit ethereal dimensional blade available. At CLvl25 and 75STR/50DEX an A3 merc only needs 14STR boost to wear it. Should come in handy for one of our members, just let us know when you remove it.

I'm also cubing up all EL/ELD/TIRs to NEFs since they appear to be worth more, and ETH/ITHs to TALs, as well, for upgrading. NEF, TAL, RAL, AMN, SOL and SHAEL appear to be desired up to that rune, so cube all others (ORT and THUL, too)?
 
I enjoyed playing with everyone I met through this fun little endeavor. I always enjoy playing with other cool cats :), so if you spot me online and want to team up for some fun, I'll be game.

Third, given I don't like putting runes - especially high ones - in low-level items, I figure there's an ideal weapon/armor that each of these new runewords goes into. Care to give suggestions, anyone?

Brand: 4OS in highest two amabows, bows or crossbows only (none are as high as JAH)
Death: 5OS in highest two two-handed swords, two-handed axes and one-handed axes (I don't see this in a phase blade, but I could be wrong)
Destruction: 5OS in giant thresher (ethereal only for mercs as charges can't be renewed)
Dragon: 3OS in archon plate, kraken shell, lacquered plate, shadow plate, sacred armor; ward, zakarum shield, vortex shield (slightly more melee-oriented Enigma without the +skills or teleport, it'll probably be used in shields more than plates)
Dream: 3OS in single highest class- and non-class--specific helms/shields
Edge: 3OS in ashwood and higher amabows, double and higher bows & siege and higher crossbows (at least my zummoner will have something to use until CLvl71)

Insight: Everyone seems to be missing the point of this r/w. The call most commonly made is "OMG OMG PUT IT ON UR MERC AND UR SORC WILL NEVER RUN OUT OF MANA!!! OMG!!!!". While this may be true it appears that no-one has bothered to read the mods past the Meditation Aura. This is a MELEE weapon with OSKILLS. This is one of only two of the 23 that grants an oSkill (Critical Strike, the other being Valkyrie on Harmony), last time I checked Mercenaries did not benefit from oskills. It provides as much as 260%ED and 250%AR which isn't great but is nothing to laugh at either. My melee Sorc is drooling over this right now. Why? She was going to be an Executeress, wielding a Silver-Edged Kingslayer Axe, she was going to max her masteries and fully utilize the KS. Now, however, as she is only lvl 25 this brand new staff has come and made her a very happy sorcy indeed. I will be putting this in a Warmth/Enchant/ES Archon Staff and changing her build to accomodate it with max Warmth, Enchant, Fire Mastery, Telekinesis and Energy Shield. I am looking forward to trying her out in pvp with my Palazon's Fortitude (just need to find a suitable def Balrog Skin) for massive fire damage and physical damage that works out at about 1000%ed every 2-3 strikes (260%ed on Insight Archon Staff, 300%ed from Fortitude and 46%+ Critical Stike for double damage).

Good luck with the RuST journey to Hell too. I was going to put my hand up to join this but I really, really dislike having to go to East/West (there are just sooo many reasons). Funnily enough, despite the fact there is a hefty time difference between Oz and Yankland when you guys are most actively playing in the afternoons and evenings that is the same time when my loose group of ladder climbers is most active (and I have been really lazy, my Palazon fell to 19th on the zon ladder, down from 4th, the other day so...) in the very early hours of the morning. However I will extend to you guys a reverse invitation to come to Asia realm and do the same thing without the constant annoyance of bots. We have a different economy to you because we have fewer dupers and hackers though, so you will find that some items are waaaaay more expensive than you are used to. And no, Asia is not populated solely by Asians, we have plenty of people from the English language persuasion here (just as I know there are plenty of Chinese players on West).

Whatever of the three realms you guys end up doing it on I would like to make a suggestion. Co-ordinate the party and make it interesting. Rather than making an 8 Pala, 750 aura party, or one with a Javazon, Meteorb, Hammerdin, WWBarb, Trapsin, Windru, Avenger and Zealot, try some of the lesser builds. Some of the more unusual builds can be difficult, but not impossible, to play untwinked but can make for some great party play regardless. Consider Tankazons, MA Asns, Druid Summoners, Clerics, Melee sorcs and other builds as a part of the group and I guarantee a great time.

Glad to see someone here read my Executress post ;) As you can imagine, I checked the new runewords in search of something that could top Kingslayer, and honestly, nothing does. Insight is not that useful. It has no IAS at all, and the Critical Strike bonus is certainly not worth Vengeance. Meditation can help with Energy Shield, but you will seriously lack hitpower. What's more, you're losing the axe, which I definitely regret. You're free to try anyway, but I fear you will be disappointed.

On another hand, Dream is a VERY powerful helm for an Executress (level 15 Holy Shock + level 20 lightning mastery = everything dies).

I've made a spreadsheet in OpenOffice Calc format (.sxc) that uses the hierarchy Wathombe lists in the last page of the original spreadsheet to show the gaps from all previous runewords before ladder season two. Many things jump out in this, not the least is the fact, which I didn't quite understand at first, that normal helms aren't separated from the other three types like shields are.

Together, with amazon bows and spears, this means only orbs, auric shields, voodoo heads and - I'm assuming - claws can have class-specific runewords. I say assuming because, although all non-socketable items are left off the spreadsheet (they're not relevant to it's purpose, obviously, but it would've been nice to have it complete), so are claws. Therefore, given I'm not sure where they'd end up in the hierarchy, I didn't include them or Chaos in this new spreadsheet.

Now, since there are already maximum-letter paladin/assassin runewords, this means orbs and heads are the only ones missing. I guess we can legitimately ***** and moan now, but there are quite a few other gaps in this that aren't filled by the new runewords.

Anyway, let me know ASAP about this group thing on west so I can decide which class to be and what build would best fit into those gaps. I've never gotten a sorceress or assassin out of normal, so don't expect me to know a lot about those builds. Best to separate the builds by style as well as classes. You don't want an enchantress, a storm ranger, a bowazon and/or a druid summoner all playing together if they're going to fight over a crossbow, for example.

I've always been interested in an all-barbarian team, as well. LMK.

Just a few quick hits:

Ax: Two things about item classes: Claws are listed on that page, as h2h and h2h2 (I should have specified in the "notes" column, sorry); and I think I left off normal helms by mistake (sorry).

Ryu_Khan: I can't recall my precise skill and stat numbers (at level 86), but I'll write them down next time I log on and PM them to you.

Journey to Hell group: Several things:
  • Turns out my parents will be staying in town for the Rose Bowl (thus, an eleven-day stay) instead of just Christmas (which would have been a four-day stay), so my holiday-week smorgasbord of gaming may be curtailed a bit. Still, I'm game to give this a try.
  • We will need a fairly standard time, at least during the week, at which most of the group could play most of the time. For me, that window is 10 to midnight Pacific Time. I know freakin usually plays late, too. Will such a late hour be a problem for alphaomega and Ax?
  • Since we are playing untwinked, I'd be open to playing on Asia instead of West, especially if Sokar would join (would be 5 to 7 in your evening time, Sokar). It would also remove the temptation to "borrow" gear from other characters for most of us. ;) LMK what everyone else thinks.
  • The idea is to have all seven character types in the party, with only one type doubled (probably Paladin, but this is open). Party-friendly builds make the most sense (cursemancer and sage/cleric pally, as mentioned by freakin, are two good ones; also enchantresses, druids with oak sage, barbs with battle orders, et cetera). Rarer builds would be great, but most important is finding a mix that will work well together. I've never played a sorc, so I was thinking of a bow enchantress, but I could play a necro (summon, venom, or curse) or druid, too. I'm a bit paladin-ed out.
  • I would be open to hardcore, Be-Were, but the problem is, if someone dies, then the party has lost them, and the player probably wouldn't be able to catch up.
  • Five to seven people have expressed an interest so far (wathombe, freakinrican, Be-Were, alphaomega4, Ax2Grind, Sokar (maybe), and Cheetah (maybe)). If we're going to do this, I'll make a new thread with all the info and post the link here in a bit. I'll also make a spreadsheet (whee!) that we'll use to track progress, our roster, et cetera. When the new link is up, go post your contact info, desired build, whether or not the 10 to midnight PST playing time works for you, whether you have a realm preference, et cetera. Should be fun!
 
a few comments, yea that is true if someone dies :-( plus it takes a lilttle doing to get used to hardcore, although to be honest the bulk of the deaths are between 35 and 45 then 75 and 85 (baal games someone either pks or dirty tps) which we could kinda get rid of but i see you point... id be open to play on any realm as long as the lag isnt that bad :-)
ideas for best party build...

Amazon - Javazon... the only amazon build that doesnt depend on gear, plus a shield is always a good thing, plus they supply heavy lightning dmg, skill build, 1 in every passive skill (yes every one), no bow skills, and max out Lightning fury first, charged strike second than any other lightning skill synergy.

Assasin - Trapasin... Again without gear the most feasable party build is a trapasin, Max out all lightning traps if possible, but get blade fury (or whatever the one that lets you throw the small blades rapidly) as well for ranged leech.

Barbarian - Run of the mill Melee Barb, skill build (1 in every war cry except grim ward, and the bottom left war cry (the one that does dmg to an area) and max out shout/bo, find item is a hugely resourceful skill, and on the left side of the warcries i dont know the name but the one that reduces enemies (plural) dmg and defense by a % is huge too with just 1 skill in it) along with maxed out xxx mastery (whatever you want, with the new low end runewords, it seems sword would be nice for Oath), maxed out concentrate, 1 in whirlwind 1 in beserk, and 1 in all of the combat masteries besides the weapons...

Druid - Elemental druids seem the most feasable and helpful, they provide huge physcial and cold dmg, skill build - max out oak, max out hurricane and tornado then get cyclone armor, and and other skill points into twister... its also a good idea to get a bear for an extra tank, he does wonders with just 1 skill point.

Necromancer - Summonancer is best party friendly necro build (minus lag).. basic skill build - max skeles max mastery, get a point in lower resists and in decrepify, from here ive found the best follow up skills are max skele mages and max corpse explosion (get 1 in all summon skills except fire golem, mainly because revives can be a huge help and iron golem gives you something to use those mid lvl useless uniques for :-))

Paladin - this one can go either way, Avengers i think are the most helpful party builds, that is, max conviction, vengence, and then resists fire/light/cold (better to max these than the resists all aura) while getting at least 1 point in holy shield, the conviction aura does wonders for the team, (mainly because this team is oriented 75% towards elemental dmg), the other decent build would be a Smiter imo, fanatacism + smite + synergies maxed, but thats more dependant on gear.... (note cheesadins are HUGELY dependant on gear to make them good)

Sorceress - (i think we should have 2 sorcs) - The best 2 builds team wise would be an enchantress with firewall as her backup skill, and some form of cold sorc, i would suggest pure blizzard as they can clear the way very well, and with conviction is deadly... Build for enchantress is self explanatory... max warmth/enchant/mastery/firewall and get 1 in mana shield / tele / and the first cold armor, the blizz one is similar, get 1 in tele and mandshield, 1 in the first cold armor, then max out blizzarrd, mastery and then blizzards synergies

And thats my ideal 8 person party from every class, it brings ALOT to the table, Physical Dmg - Barb + druid + necro skeles
Cold dmg - Sorc + druid
Fire dmg - Enchantress + everyone
Lightning Dmg - Assasin + Amazon
All elements - Necro Mages + Pally
Not to mention -150% all enemy resists from pallies aura and -95% ish defense (so youll hit like 99% of the time, and also +400% is defense from baba shout, +150%ish life from oak and +125%ish life/mana from bo...

Then we can add mercs for everyone... i suggest mainly all act2 mercs, 1 of each aura type, and we can get them some nice weapons with the new runewords, id say at least 1 with insight, maybe an act1 merc just for harmony so we all super fast, and a bunch with obediance lol....

Well thats my $.02 :-) lol, any comments or additions?

EDIT: Over break ill be with my g/f for a lot of the time so id prolly be free on a daily basis from around 12-12:30 AM est to 3-3:30 AM est

I could do a druid (werebear build) or an assassin (dragon talon) I'm not much of a windy or trappy... I just can't seem to get past the need to hack and actually hit things...

Ok, we're going to try to form a "Journey to Hell" group for USEast players, from 9pm to 11pm eastern time, as many nights per week as we all want to play, but hopefully 4 or 5.

So far we have Cherokee, Remlin, and possibly Ax2Grind if he chooses not to play on west. Anyone else who is interested, please visit (and post in) the JTH thread at http://forums.rpgforums.net/showthread.php?t=291962 -- there is a lot of good info there.

We're looking to start the week after Christmas (around Dec 27-29 or so).

Forgot to ask: H2H (hand-to-hand) is a generic weapon parent class left in the code and H2H2 (hand-to-hand II) is the actual claw-class weapons?

Also: Are normal helms on the same level (child of 'helm') as circlets, druid pelts and primal helms or are they actually 'helm' as many others have said (if it doesn't work in a class-specific or circlet it doesn't work in a normal helm)? I ask just to make sure, as you said you think you left them off.

Cherokee: I want to get started with something like this ASAP and, unless you can get this going on east in less than two weeks, I think I'll be in A5H by the time you want to start. If this means you'd prefer to play on east so as to bulk your character up after defeating Baal, that's understood. I kind of want to do the same, but I'll have to rely on the kindness of west players to stow the gear they're not going to use on my druid. Let Wathombe know for sure that you're waiting for east groups, I may join both if there's space or - if there's already eight but not 12-16 - I'll bow out. It could be good practice for you before starting an east group.

BTW, AO4 is east, and has shown some interest, so he might prefer here than there. If you subtract him from west and add to east you're just that much closer.

Okay, I double-checked, and here's a link to the to the original post by Thrugg: socketable item hierarchy tree

h2h and h2h2 are both claw-class weapons. h2h includes all normal claw-class weapons and exceptional claw-class weapons up to and including the Fascia. h2h2 includes exceptional claw-class weapons Hand Scythe and above and all elite claw-class weapons. As it stands, the difference seems academic, but I suppose blizz in the future could make a runeword or cube recipe that only works with h2h2 weapons and not h2h weapons.

As for helms, evidently there is no separate category for normal helms the way there is for normal shields (which means, fwiw, that we could indeed have crossed "N" off the 2os chart for every "B," "C", and "D" test we did).
