1.09 Roll Call - Goals, Progress, Finds

Re: 1.09 Roll Call - Goals, Progress, Finds

Normal Bramble gives 25% to 50% enhanced poison damage. Beta Bramble gives 67% to 205% enhanced poison damage.

Re: 1.09 Roll Call - Goals, Progress, Finds

I played quite a bit these last weeks (I don't have much free time) and here are the results.

-My Classic Softcore Barb, Alpha went from level 76 to 77

-I'm still doing one cow run every day with my Expansion Softcore sorc, Fall, she's now 91, halfway to 92.
I can almost fill her inventory with small charms of vita now. She has two Cold Skillers GC, one giving FHR, and a plain Fire Skiller GC

-My Expansion Softcore Barb, Beast, went from level 86 to 87.
I replaced a few of his charms, since I found a Masteries GC, it gives more damage and AR than I thought.

-My Assassin, Technical, went from level 38 to 45. I played MP with my cousin's Paladin, we did a few Normal Baal runs until my assassin could wear her gear.

-I also played a bit of 1.06 with my cousin, my sorc can now use Frozen Orb, which helps a lot, but man, there are simply not enough mana potions in this version... We cannot buy them, and unique monsters only drop one magic item and a single potion. I'm actually putting most of my skill points into Warmth and stats into energy, so I also lack life.

-Finally I decided to finish my Druid, he was level 46 when I re-started playing him.

Charms:

For charms I originally planned to go with Max Damage / AR charms, but I realized that all my damage would be physical, except from Baranar's bonuses, which aren't that big for Hell. So I decided to use various elemental damage charms mostly. I also use a Spiritual Grand Charm of Maiming (1 Shape Shfting / 4 Max Damage )

Questing

Normal:

Well, when I picked this guy up again, I knew he'd be powerful, he was already using Ribcracker, and was at the point where I do P8 Baal runs. I usually do this until level 53, then it takes more than 2 runs to level, so I just proceed to NM in this case.

He was one shotting most monsters, even at P8, so leveling was quick and easy. Fury + Ribcracker is OP in Normal.

He did all of Normal at Players 8.

Nightmare:

I decided to do all of NM at Players 8 since he could kill most monsters in 1 Fury, not one hitting anymore, but still very powerful. I must say it was almost boring. In my opinion, twinked characters have the easiest of times in NM difficulty.

I usually want to start Hell at level 65, well when he killed NM Baal, he was already level 66, NM P8 gives good XP it seems... :)

So from there he could finally wear Baranar's and Highlord's. Surprisingly, Baranar's wasn't as big an upgrade than I thought. I even had to put a Shael in it to keep the same attack speed I had with Ribcracker. But now he could wear a shield, so he wore Tiamat's until 73.

Hell:

Act 1-2 and 3 were really easy, all done on Players 8.

Physical immunes weren't much longer to kill than others. My main problem is that I have 0 Mana Leech, so Mana Burn unique monsters were my "worst nightmare", not that they were tough. I just find it frustrating to run out of mana.

I met one MSLE unique, which I could tank pretty well, despite my low resists.

I almost died while fighting Diablo, because of his Firestorm skill (which deals Physical AND FIre damage IIRC). Logically, with the amount of life (over 3K), and my gear (79% PDR), I thought I should tank this comfortably. Act 4 was done on P8 as well.

Act 5 was done on P1, because I just wanted to Pat this guy, and monsters were just too resistant. It was like 3-4 full Fury to kill each one of them...

I got SUPER close to death against Nihlathak, even with 3K life, he could 3 shot me with CE, enough that my druid auto-transformed into his original shape, which I think happens when your supposed to die?. I always had the impression that no matter how much life you have in this game, you will die in the same amount of hits from monsters, as if monster damage was based on % of our life when they hit us. lol I know it's not the case but man...

In Frozen Tundra, L-Cancel found a unique Amulet, which was another Highlord's ! I was quite happy with this one, but I don't need it at all...

None of the Ancients had Mana Burn (yay!), Madawc was PI, but still easy to kill. Baal was a joke, as it always is in 1.09, except when you are a Necromancer loll.

I also sometimes wonder if Ribcracker is better than Baranar's Star on P8 and against Bosses...

Re: 1.09 Roll Call - Goals, Progress, Finds

Gratz on your Pat, ERayz!!!

Update on my activities, my Schaeferdin is a sliver from 99 (1 or 2 cow runs), so I started on my 98 Nova Sorc. So she up and nabs another Gul Rune - so now I'm 3 Gul runes from my Beta Bramble!!!

Re: 1.09 Roll Call - Goals, Progress, Finds

I've picked up D2 again recently, mostly playing HC now, both in Classic and LoD.

But I've decided to run some Meph on Classic Softcore with my Sorc, just out of curiosity and see what I can find.

I've found a rare Mage Plate, that I think is good, but I'm unsure if I should use the socket recipe, which involves using a SoJ.

I can get easy SoJ if I play some 1.06 (already have Nagel and Manald there).

Since I'm pretty bad at evaluating rares in Classic, can anyone help me out with this plate, to know if it's socket worthy?

View attachment 5151

If there is one place in these forums where I could ask this question, can someone tell me where?

Re: 1.09 Roll Call - Goals, Progress, Finds

Its not a bad plate but cold res is quite overrated for PvM and the amount of stats on it is fairly low. Furthermore all you get from socketing an armor/helm is +38 life which isn't worth a SoJ...

Re: 1.09 Roll Call - Goals, Progress, Finds

Yeah I see, guess I'll have to wait for a better plate, then. Something like this plate with decent life (30+) and maybe some defense.

Thanks!

EDIT:

I made quite a bit of progress lately, especially in Classic HC, where I managed to get my very first King title, with my Barb, who level from 39 to 65 while questing. I did a few RoF + CS rune in NM, until level 60 before starting Hell though. After posting this: http://www.purediablo.com/forums/showthread.php?851502-King-Loyal-1-09-Classic-Hardcore-WW-Barbarian , I continued playing him, and he's now level 74. I run RoF at players 8, and I don't want to risk running CS for now. IM is dangerous heh.

I also play my LoD softcore sorc, named Fall, I mostly do Meph, pindle and cow runs. She's now level 93, about halfway to 94. Yesterday, I've found a Poison and Bone skill GC, which made me happy! Now my necromancer has 4 of them. I've found Hone Sundan too, which I socketed with Shael/Amn/Amn and gave it to my Amazon's merc.

Naturally, I wanted to test this new weapon, and it works amazing compared to Spire of Honor, which is wayyyy too slow. My Amazon uses Buriza for now, and I refuse to level her more until I find Windforce. I want to actually use Windforce, heh! I still did a cow run with her today, to test my new merc's weapon, then decided just for fun, to go and kill Meph at players 8 with her. Here's what he dropped :D

Fall gained about 500 damage with Fire Wall! Which will be very useful in most situations, the life doesn't hurt also ;)

Re: 1.09 Roll Call - Goals, Progress, Finds

Hey everyone, I recently started playing 1.09. Part of it is I used to play a bit of 1.09 (or earlier, not really sure) and I wanted to beat Baal SP in an earlier version now that I have finally completed that in 1.13. I also wanted to try out time-travelling. My other goal is to make a level 99 character, which from my understanding is far more doable in v 1.09 than it is today. I'm looking forward to beating up on a ton of cows!

Playing as a Javazon, which is probably not a great choice for this version, but I enjoy it so that's what I'm going to do. Recently finished up normal and moving my way through nightmare (wow experience is bad in nightmare in this version).

Re: 1.09 Roll Call - Goals, Progress, Finds

Hey there Kent!

Nice to see more 1.09 lovers!

I don't know much about 1.09 Javazons, as I always played the overpowered Burizon (I'd use Windforce if I ever found one though). Feel free to tell us how you progress, what are the difficulties you encounter and good drops you'll find.

I don't until which level you played Normal, but yeah it's true that Experience is slow in NM, it gets better from mid Act 3 for me. It will feel the same in Hell, that's because in 1.09, the experience is heavily weighted in Act 5, some say even within Act 5, it is mostly in World Stone Keep and Baal.

As you seem to know, cows are the ultimate place to level up to 99 in 1.09, depending on which class/build you use. I never made it to level 99 yet, so I don't know how many runs it takes from 90-99. I read somewhere that from 98, it takes about 40 runs to level up.

Btw, which edition of 1.09 are you playing? 1.09a, b, c or d ? In a and b, you can use the Players X command up to Players 64, which must be fun to try out.

EDIT:

I decided to play my Assassin until she finishes the game. I already have a Matriarch Assassin (Tiger Strike/Dragon Claw) but she was quite boring and had no way of dealing with Immune Physical. More importantly, she can't run cows, so leveling is getting quite slow to my taste. So my current Assassin is a Phoenix Strike / Death Sentry user. I still don't know how she will do in Hell difficulty, but so far she's in Act 3 NM, and destroys everything at P8.

I must say though, that Phoenix Strike's Elemental damage are quite low. The Ice charge is useful to freeze everything. The meteor is a bit slow, the mobs are generally all dead before it lands XD. Once everything is frozen I spam the lightining charge, to sometime save time so I don't have to run up to every monster and kill them with my claw. I never use Death Sentry, as it would only slow me down for now, but I'll try it in the Cow level once I finish NM.

Re: 1.09 Roll Call - Goals, Progress, Finds

Thanks for the welcome.

I am starting to think I may not have made a great choice with javazon. They seem far less powerful than 1.13 and I had thought they were supposed to be more powerful in 1.09. I'm up to level 48 and just beat NM meph, he took a while to go down, in 1.13 charged strike can drop him super quickly. But I guess my goal is killing packs not bosses, so as long as I can keep progressing it might still work out. So far I haven't found anything special (which is not really surprising) but I have found a goldwrap and managed to make a rhyme shield. The rest of my equipment is very subpar.

Not sure which version of 1.09, I got the patch from a link on this site, how do I check?

I played 1.09 for a while some year ago.. The cows has less hp in 1.09. A javazon is nice for the moo moo-level. :evil2:

Re: 1.09 Roll Call - Goals, Progress, Finds

I see this thread is dying :(

Am I the only one on this planet who still plays 1.09? hehe

Anyways, I leveled my sorceress to 94 with cow runs, then decided to do only Meph runs untils she hits 95. I do the runs on P3, as I can take advantage of the static bug, and have a guaranteed 6 items drop, resulting in faster and better dropping runs overall.

In a little bit more than 700 runs (from 94 to 95) I found:

2x Lidless
2x Bartuc
2x Titan's
2x SoJ
2x Gaze
2x Arreats ( one of them is 198/6 )
2x Wizardspike
Harlequin's crest
Stormshield
String of Ears
Buriza
Nosferatu's Coil

Funny that I got luck like that in so few runs, but didn't find anything I was specifically searching for, except for Gaze.

I'm still trying to find Herald of Zakarum, Shaftstop and 2x Raven Frost. I might do it again until level 96.

Re: 1.09 Roll Call - Goals, Progress, Finds

Heya.

I'm not even sure if I've posted here in the past, but I recently started playing 1.09(b) again. I have a trap assassin (super low damage) at level 76 and a bowazon at 45, both hardcore. The assassin is stuck at Duriel, waiting for a combination of high cold resist, Shaftstop and a few trap skillers.

Also, not sure if hardcore works well in multiplayer. Due to lag, even locally, if some other process uses the CPU, the client freezes but the server keeps going (and possibly killing my characters).

Currently, I'm running Tal Rasha's Tombs (players 2) for exp and NM Meph for gear.

Let me know if you guys are doing any hardcore runs. :)

Resurrecting because of the time travel guides recently posted.

Currently powering through 1.09b. My orb/nova sorc is level 71 and just finished hell andy. I did 47 nightmare cow runs last night. No 20 lifers, no skillers, but lots of flawless gems. Also found a second unique grim shield.

The entire point of me starting 1.09b was to get myself a unique azurewrath crystal sword and a 1.09 raven claw. I've accomplished azurewrath two times over, but I CANNOT get a raven claw to drop. I've done ~150 normal meph runs, ~200+ nightmare eld/shenk runs, about ~70 nightmare cow runs, and maybe 30~ nightmare andy runs.

My sorc is currently rocking occy, lidless, frosties, goldwrap, nats boots, 10fcr/98 mana amulet, 4xptopaz gothic plate and 3x ptopaz great helm, and 1x 19mana per kill and 1x24 mana per kill 10 fcr ring. Managed to find 2x 5% frw charms.

I just want that raven claw...

Finally found that raven claw. I seem to find these guys all the time until I actually need one. I forwarded it to 1.13 and wow. Looks like I probably won't be leveling a chanter anytime soon.

I'm running 1.09b LK with my sorc that's currently 76. I just killed Hell Baal, completed a couple hell cow runs, and decided LK would be nicer for gems/jewels. Also, I had no idea that you could skip the ancients in 1.09. I've been wanting to start a run for 99 in 1.13 but have a couple other projects I'm working on first. Those ancients quests would probably come in handy...

Found a +15 resist all jewel that I threw in my occy. Also found a 7fhr/6min dmg/10 all resist rare jewel. Not bad ^^

Anyone else ran LK in 1.09b? I've tried Googling but haven't uncovered anything. That no red rune mod really makes me wonder if I'm missing something, but in all reality the only HR I'd be upset about missing would be Ohm for that beta cta I want.

I was wondering if anyone found any HRs from LK as well. I'm hoping eventually there will be enough interest for people to run 1.09 LK. I suppose one could go through each page of the thread one at a time :p

Decided to play some D2 again after D3 and start fresh in 1.09d this time. This is the most nostalgic patch for me as I did have many good experiences in it. I created a barb called just like my first barb char at the time, which is Falcon. He's going to be a Frenzy Barbarian. I want to try and recapture the old school feeling and see if some of my memories were true or are just nostalgic pink glasses. Particularly, I remember that it was much easier to play through the game as physical melee untwinked before 1.10. I want to see just how much. I've tried a couple of untwinked frenzy barbs in 1.10+ but always hit progress wall early on Hell and didn't quite have patience to finish. I want to see if this patch is friendlier for untwinked play than 1.10+ as I think.

I'll be playing mostly p1 as I didn't know about p8 command at the time. I want to try and feel the drop/leveling balance on this base player setting. Might switch to higher settings if this doesn't work out, if it becomes too boring one shotting enemies or I fall too far behind on XP.

Right now Falcon is in the very beginning of his journey, about to go and rescue Cain, i.e A1Q3.

Thank you! I will continue posting my progress if you guys don't mind. I liked reading progress posts by other people.

So Falcon made his way past Andariel into Act II. He was level 13. I was playing mostly /p1 with short tests on p8 and p3 which shouldn't have skewed the results too much. The only notable drop so far Civerb's Icon amulet, which Falcon decided to put on for its +4 life replenish and +40% mana regen.

Falcon then continued into Act II. After a lot of thinking, he decided to switch rogue merc for a desert one for the beneficial aura. Although rare long bow dropped in Dry Hills which made him think of this decision, but it was too late to change back. Also a bit before than in the first cave after Lut Gholein the Gem shrine was found which allowed upgrading of Normal Topaz to a Flawless one. Small thing, but it's cool to have such high level gem so early already. Maggot Lair part didn't have anything special. Level 16, onto Viper temple.

(Might actually do some tomb runs on higher /p setting, as it seems slow a bit atm, and I fear that I will have to catch up with levels at some point.

Been playing my untwinked 1.09 frenzy barbarian and finally reached hell. And oh my god does it feel easier than in 1.10+! I remember I used to play comfortably untwinked before, then 1.10 struck me as unable to do so anymore with my favorite melee classes. And now finally I have found time to confirm it. I'm leaning to think now that 1.09 was the last patch where most builds could work untwinked without exessive mfing for uniques and runes.

My barb only has a pair of Strength and magic falcatas and damage is quite enough and survivability is okay even on level 59 which would be too low in newer patches. Albeit it is just act 1 cold plains, but still. In 1.10 first zombie in Blood Moor would already hit me for half of my HP and I would back up.

I'll keep playing and see how it goes. I may want to play in this patch more with other classes.
