Could anyone give me some info on cows experience, like how many runs it might take my frenzy barb to get a level past 95, and how long a run might take (assuming I am well equipped) on p8. I have the itch to get a barb up to level 99, and am trying to decide between 1.07 and 1.09.

Well, my frenzy barb is only level 98, and right now he's running mephy for some TGod's for the parallel JavaZon project I'm planning. I can tell you that it is more tedious to do cows with a frenzy barb than a Sorc or a Zon, but it shouldn't take any more runs than for any other character. I'll take him cowing tonight and let you know how much XP that looks like it gives him. Maybe a before and after screenie of his XP bar.

OK, I did P8 cows with my barb - I go until I encounter the Cow King, then go back to town.

It shows 3,305,206,954 of XP

So I got about 6.5 million of XP from a P8 cow run. Since I need about 210 million to get to 99, that's about 34 more runs to go, give or take. The XP bar is about a quarter of the way, so I'd say the total from level 98 to 99 is under 50 P8 Cow runs.

Robby, have you put any more thought into a time travel tourney? Maybe a backwards approach like maxing what would be a 1.13 synergy for their skills could be interesting for some builds. Some would show little difference like a meteorb. But there could be restrictions like main skill(s) must have at least one maxed "synergy" relative to synergies in 1.10+. Or maybe builds that are popular now that were unheard of before the big change like hdins and windy druids taking a spin in 1.09 without their precious tele.

I've thought about it, but I've never hosted a tourny and I'm not sure what the interest would be. Of people showing interest in a 1.09-theme tourny, they seem to be split between taking on 1.13 with only gear available in 1.09 (my original idea), taking the trek all the way from 1.07, or keeping it in 1.09.

There seems to be an assumption that a tourny needs to be untwinked, but a 1.13 tourny with 1.09 would work best twinked. A pure 1.09 tourny would work well untwinked, especially with the option of making one of those chippie swords (but you would need to run areas for chippies, so I don't know about single pass).

Since 1.13 has the respec, I don't think building a character for transition makes sense (unless somebody wants a stop at 1.10a/s).

Point being, there are a lot of ideas to consider and no general consensus of what the best idea would be.

I can see how the 1.09 gear in 1.13 would be interesting. All of the uber gear back then is miniscule compared to runewords and such. However, twinking would make up the main difference if that were the case. Otherwise such gear probably wouldn't be seen/used until very late in the game. But most tourney players prefer single pass no twink, like you said.

Maybe act 1 chippie running could be allowed for a 1.09 tourney. First person to make a cruel collosus sword of evisceration or w/e prefix/suffix desired. Hey, for that matter why not make it somewhat similar to MFO style and earn points for each sword rolled with x-x% ed. That or points earned for the elite 1.09 gear found. All must be self-found untwinked characters maxed for mf potential.

I've never hosted and would not likely be able to as I'm less active in the forum than many others. At least I have a very early join date in comparison to several others. In the mean time I'll be going at it searching for hammers and skilling frenzy.

I kind of like that idea - extra points for Conquest or Cryptic Swords since you can't shop them! And the elite S/Us in 1.09 are quite difficult to find since the drop rates are so much lower - sure, you can get wizzys and Shakos, but I never once found a Messy's Reaver, and the darn thing dropped while questing my first 1.13 char.

I'll ponder some possibilities here - a throwback tourny would be fun - it probably wouldn't take long for the 1.07 guys to fire up something similar.

yeah, drops for eth ba's or ap's gain them points. or racked elite uniques, etc. This could be going somewhere... 1.07/09 item find tourney. Items worth a certain point set given their rarity on a scale of 1-5 or 10.

I think the 1.07 guys would be at a disadvantage from no /players but the rarity of those elites, 1/8000 iirc, that's no small feat compared to some of the drop rates for 1.09 right?

Well my Frenzy barb is doing great just getting ready to dive into hell. Nm mephy was kind enough to drop me an um rune. First decent rune ive gotten playing single player this far.

Also snagged a javazon frw GC. Makes 5 skillers so far. Quite happy about that.

Just wanted to tell someone.....

I think it would actually be faster in 1.07, but only if you loaded up a p8 game, I would have to recheck that thread, but I think it was about 28 runs from 98-99. Looks like I will be doing it in 1.09 then, since I don't use the modified .dll, although I may have to eventually if I want to run 1.10 for a bkwb.

So I guess I will join you in 1.09, but probably not until I find a few more things in 1.07 to bring forward with me :)

Tell me about it. I have 7 or so completed characters in 1.09 (single pass, players 1) and the highest qlvl S/U items I have ever found are M'avina's Embrace and The Gladiator's Bane.

Quick item of note - I've gone back to some 1.09 Mephy running with my Barb for a TGods (for my Tale of Two Javazons project - one in 1.13, one in 1.09), and I noticed something I had not noticed before.

One of the major drawbacks of jumping the moat with the Barb is you almost alway leave the merc behind to deal with whatever stayed on the peninsula and have to go mano-e-mano with Mephy. That's not a big deal for a good barb, but Mephy goes down much faster if you have a merc poking him with a Hone Sundan.

Well, I found a trick that dramatically increases the probability that the merc will appear to help you. Once you jump the moat, jump again right away, as far forward as your cursor will go. That will mean Mephy is already engaging as you rebuff your warcries, but the chances appear better than 50/50 that your merc will appear and come to help you out. I run Mephy on P3, so having the merc's help shortens the runtime measurably (it's probably not worth worrying about on P1).

Got another Occy, Wizzy, and Bartucs (and some others I still pick up like The Atlantean), but no TGods so far.

Which places can you guys recommend for leveling a level 72 Meteorb sorc? She was rushed all the way through 1.07 and has completed pretty much all quests already, except for hell Anya and some act 3 quests.

Shenk, Eldritch and Cows give good XP on players8, but they make short work of my merc and I can't afford to resurrect him after each monster group. He's currently wearing Duskdeep, Smoke Gothic Plate (unusual choice, but the only 2 socket armor I had in 1.07 :p) and Honor in an eth Thresher from 1.07.

Goal is to get her to level 90+ before moving her to 1.10a.

Well i play a bit unusually i guess but i dont usually use a merc on my meteorb. It seems that i can orb to slow em down. then cast meteor, then static 2 or 3 times before the meteor hits. Then there all dead.

The merc in the cow level just seems to get in the way and disrupt my herding.

Also try just running mephy on players 8. Get some better gear for the merc and make 2mil exp per run. Runs are fast and with the moat trick and high level static you never get touched.

Well, that works, too, of course, albeit a bit slower and less comfortably. When I use her for HF collecting in 1.10a, though, I'd like to have a merc, so I gotta level him eventually and it's not like my Meteors will become any more powerful than they are now.

So I guess I'll give Meph a try. Only have level 8 Static Field after +skills, I think.

I know that mercs in 1.09 have a set level when you hire but the mercs in 1.13 are hired based on your level. Not sure when the switch is made but i think in 1.10 you can just hire a merc with your sorc at lvl 90 or whatever and the merc will be 89.

Just a thought.

I think its lvl 17 static to reach past the moat to mephy to stay safe. and on Players 8 you can static mephy to just a sliver. so the runns go quite fast.

That mercs are close to your level when you hire them wasn't implemented before 1.11, unfortunately.

Just tried running Meph a few times and I can't say it went very well. By the time I static'd him down to a sliver, my merc has the same amount of life left in the best case, but most likely he's dead by then. I drop a Meteor or two on Meph, then I have to drink a mana potion, which isn't that good, since I can't buy new ones from the vendors.

Use the moat trick with your meteor and you'll still be safer than trying to tank him alongside your merc. Or I always preferred dodging and orbing when I did meph runs with a meteorber. If you can find the right distance then the orb will do the mass damage when it explodes (ends) on mephy. It's a lot of clicking and takes some practice to get the aim that good but then you're still close enough to static between orbs when you get a chance.

Forget about the merc if you're running meph. He'll just keep getting in the way and costing you more money. Wait to res him until you go back to running another area or find some more decent gear for him from mephy. After some runs without the merc you should be able to throw something a little better on him. It sounds like LL should get a bump. That eth thresher should do decent damage(??) for some leeching. IIRC mercs can leech off bosses in .09 so he should last longer if you raise the damage and LL.

When you run Shenk are you running the rest of the hills as well? Starting from the bottom and working your way up and may help keep your merc alive a little better. When you start at the top you get all of the mobs after you while you tele down and then the catapults go crazy on you too. Try the bottom up. Dac Faaren is a nice little bonus mf target in the middle similar to Eldritch.

Just a quick update... I just rolled a 296% ed on a champion sword. Unfortunately no secondary mod. 4% from perfect will suit me just fine though.

Now i can start rerolling the 254% or whatever is on the other hand.

Super fun rolling with chippies.

As another note.... Mephy gave up an oculus and shako finally. Now to get a vipermagi.

I have been running the crystaline passage, arreats way(both levels) and the glacial trail(both levels).

Well i just got my hybrid zon to hell cows. Put a shako, titans, lidless, 2 jav skil gloves and a jav gc on it. The speed at which it cleans out the level is uncomparable to any of the other characters i have tried so far. I thought my meteorb was fast but the lightning fury just distroys everything.

I can not wait untill i get a better setup on her to really see what she can do.

Very well could be my first 99er.

On a side note i found a unique dragon shield from the bovines and a few cow king hats. Both drops i have never seen before in my comparitivly short time here.

HammerTime has defeated the dreaded Duriel. Man the going has been slow but I finally gambled a couple of battle hammers and that has picked up the pace quite a bit. Even though the attack speed on the hammers is god awful double swing helps make up for it. Once I have some points in frenzy the added ias will help too.

I've been trying to max out my mf and my mercs but have not had any good noteworthy finds yet. A Hsarus shield back in early A1, Death belt from a poppable in Cat lvl 3 while running Andy, and an isenhart's case dropped in the Tal Rasha tomb. Rolled a savage partizan for my merc but he can't use it yet and probably still won't be able to once he reaches the lvl req from the high str req. Duriel dropped some rares but nothing I could use. So now it's off to look for some warcry blades from Asheara and a 3os helm for some added mf. Maybe I'll be able to gamble a better hammer or buy one from Hralti. Anything with some IAS will make a huge difference with the horrible weapon speed.
