1.09 Roll Call - Goals, Progress, Finds

Re: 1.09 Roll Call - Goals, Progress, Finds

Yea i actually was going to make a bowazon but then i found a titans and have not found a burrito. So i decided on a lighning fury cow killer. Actually got a shako to drop too but with my luck its etheral so we will have to wait for another one to fall.

Yep i tried the countess with the meteorb and it was a tough match.

I have been collecting my chippies and have yet to roll anything over 100ed yet on my conquest sword. Just got 80%ed and 40% ias .. getting closer.

To be honest i must of remembered things wrong because im not getting much for drops from mephy so far. The frusturating and adicting part of the game though is that you never get what your looking for. Everything else but.

Are all the people ive read about here going for 7 lvl 99ers gone? or do they still pop in?

thanks for the feedback Robby

Amen to that. I can only bear the no-drop slumps because I run him for XP, too, on p8. Check my posts here for more information about moat trick and static bug, if you are interested in that sort of thing.

By the way, I'd still use the ethereal shako until it has 1 point durability left. From then on onward it can be used as a A3 merc helm.

Good luck with your adventures!

Re: 1.09 Roll Call - Goals, Progress, Finds

I think you are the one who said lvl 17 static works over the moat?

If so i am getting my static up there... 15 atm.

I put
20 meteor
20 fm
20 orb
5 cm
5 shiver armor ( the 2nd one)
1 in the usuals and now the rest into static.

I can not quite remember what the deal with cold mastery was. Worth it to max out?

Re: 1.09 Roll Call - Goals, Progress, Finds

Oh one more thing. Where is the secret area that dropps hundreds of chippies? I seem to get about 2 each p8 cow run. Would be great to bring that number up a bit.

Re: 1.09 Roll Call - Goals, Progress, Finds

If you've gotten used to 1.10+, then you are spoiled by the higher global drop rates. The best that I can figure, 1.10+ is equivalent to 1.09 at 100%MF. Add quest bugging to the mix, and the drops are dizzying to somebody used to 1.09.

I'm a bit of a self-proclaimed expert at 1.09 Countess running, so let me run some suggestions by you:

I would suggest a Nova sorc for Countess running - craft a caster ammy and run with Wizzy, Lidless, and Skin to hit the 105 FCR. A barb is a great choice if you don't mind hoofing it to her - a Frenzy barb can frenzy up and make short work of the small levels, and a WW barb can whirl through any monster packs he doesn't want to deal with. A Pally is a great foot-running Countess runner too, because Sanctuary completely removes any physical resistance (including immunity) of Undeads and Vigor makes him run the levels fast. You will want a conviction weapon switch for the times Countess spawns PI (and that's fairly often).

One of the old 7/99 folks popped in for a bit, but didn't stick around long. I have 2 99s, and plan to get 2 more to 99 when I come back to 1.09.

As a matter of fact, I'm considering a new project that includes 1.09 after I finish my Teslot in 1.13 - let me know what you think:

Parallel 1.09 and 1.13 Hybrid JavaZons. I never made one in 1.09, and it's still a good build in 1.13, so here's my thinking:

Each JavaZon will start at the same time, and neither one goes to the next act until the other is ready. Each will also have a bow switch - for the 1.09 Zon, it will be a Buriza with a point in Fire Arrow and pumped GA, and the 1.13 will sport a big Wizendraw with Freezing Arrow (i.e. FishyZon) or maybe a WF with strafe (i.e. Gunslinger). I think both will pump CS since it's known to be good in 1.13 but it was never really tested in 1.09 from what I can tell.

That will give me an even clearer comparison of 1.09 and 1.13. What do you think?

@Enochdarg - Normal Act 1 is the place to farm chippies. You could run Coldcrow for a Gull while picking up all chippies on the way.

Re: 1.09 Roll Call - Goals, Progress, Finds

I can vouch that javazons rocked the cows relentlessly. That was one of my highest levelled builds in .09. I never went to 99 but I think I was at 95 or 96 with her before 1.10 came out. That changed her viability with my skill layout so I gave up on her after that. Still, LF zons with a good multi on switch (burri's or wf's) were killers in cows and pretty good in baal runs too. Smaller areas, of course, were not as efficient for the lf. But a good GA with piercing was a small mob/boss killer every time.

As for my new venture into 1.09, it stems from discussion in another thread that lead to possibly starting a time travel tourney. So here's my plan until that may happen. A theme based build that I've had in the back of my head for a while now.

I'm using my summer job (when I'm not teaching) to inspire the build. I did construction last summer and I'm heading back out there again in a couple of months. For my build, I'm going with a hammer based frenzy barb with a minor focus in shouts, since construction guys usually get pissed off and start yelling about something or another, and maybe a little berserk in there too for when they go crazy and lose all control hitting things. My limitations are that I can only use gear that would make sense for a construction worker, light leather armors, a "hard hat," leather gloves, boots, a leather tool belt with the most possible slots for carrying supplies, and hammers only. This means I will probably be without a weapon until I can get the horadric malus from that ugly smith.

I had started the idea in 1.13 and was going to use re-specs to develop an "apprentice, journeyman, master" approach and be limited with skills used for each difficulty. But since there are no respecs it will just be keeping my skill usage to the ones already discussed. Since there are no synergies to really worry about it will be all about the frenzy, for fast hammering, Mace mastery since the hammers are the weapon of choice, BO/Shout to raise my spirits and morale, BC to yell at those foul beasts interrupting my work, a little in Iron skin and Nat. Res. because he is a tough man working outside in the elements, and a point in Berserk for when things get really out of hand.

I guess the other important thing to consider is how the stats will work. Being a tough construction man, he needs a lot of strength and dexterity to be able to hammer accurately and with a strong enough punch to drive those nails in. So I'm thinking a 2/2/1 str/dex/vit may be in the works for each level. There are no concerns for that unmanly mana. That is for those girlish characters who can't handle a tool like the dreaded construction worker. I will post of his beginnings once he gets started sometime this weekend.

Re: 1.09 Roll Call - Goals, Progress, Finds

Yep i think a nova sorc would be fun to run countess with. I actually found 3 skillers today. One of them a sorc light gc. But i have yet to find a vipermagi, oculus, wizzy, non eth shako... many many other things though.

The plan for now is to run cows until i find a decent 4os armor to help with the mf%. Keep farming chippies to get ready for the frenzy barb. And probly through in a handfull of mephy runs for good measure.

I am still bitter at what 1.13 became from my old school beloved diablo, seems that everyone in 1.13 has a hammerdin bot. I am sure though that i just remember things far better then they were. There was probably just as many problems in 1.9 as well. 1.9 lf zon is high on my list to play though. Ive got her halfway through hell now.

I too work construction so its funny to hear you take those experiences into this game.

Back to the grind here. Ill let you know what drops.

Re: 1.09 Roll Call - Goals, Progress, Finds

Alright Robby ive read through your 1.9 time travler guide a few times. And even though i have no desire to time travel it is a great help playing the 1.9 patch.

I decided to put the meteorb sorc on hold with the nova and the javazon until i get a good mfer first. So i think ill spend more time on the fury baba.

I did find 2 ali baba swords so those should help quite a bit on switch.

Anyway in your guide you mentioned a masteries bug? So going with swords its still best to put 1 point into each mastery to get extra critical strike? I guess i do not quite understand that part. Also finding the right balance between strength dex and vitality is an issue.

No shield means no block obviously but i still need to hit with frenzy and berzerk for immunes. So with mid level gear whats a good goal to shoot for here?

Sorry for the ignorant questions but i never really played a barb back in my day and feal inspired to do so now. Sounds like a fun new way to bash some monsters.

Any other tips are great. Thanks

Re: 1.09 Roll Call - Goals, Progress, Finds

Yeah, the masteries bug is that you get a 100% chance of critical strike with a single point in the mastery, and with the ED and AR, that's just too good a deal for a single point. The reason I say a point in each mastery is if you don't know what weapons you will be using, it's worth it to cover all the standard weapon types. So if you plan on swords, no, points in axe and mace masteries won't help... but if you don't know what weapons will be available, then a point in each type to double the damage of pretty much anything you will be swinging is worth it.

For mid-level gear, look at your runewords - King's Grace and Honor (I don't recommend Black for Frenzy because of the knockback, but it would be good for pure Mephy running) are nice weapons - make them in fast weapons since they have no IAS. Dual Honor Zwiehanders, Knouts, Divine Scepters, or Nagas would be awesome. That's until you can get to Hell Act 3 to shop some Champion Swords for chippie rolling (or if Mephy gets VERY generous and drops you a Doombringer).

For Armor - Smoke is my favorite - Lionheart is also good - Wealth is expensive in 1.09 runes and is beat by Skullder's Ire.

Depending on the S/Us you have available, Aldur's Rhythm, Bloodletter, and Fleshrender are all really good mid-game weapons, and Duriel's Shell, Shaftstop, Skuller's Ire are always good armor. Obviously if you are MFing then War Travs and Stealskull will be the best option for boots and helm, and Thundergod's Vigor, once you find one, is THE belt for 1.09 since it solves MSLE. String of Ears and Nosferatu's Coil are also nice. For PURE Mephy running, Goldwrap should suffice.

Keep in mind the Frenzy speed calculation is different for 1.09 than 1.13 - I don't know the exact mechanics, but it doesn't follow the current description.

Re: 1.09 Roll Call - Goals, Progress, Finds

Ok well that clarifies the masteries for me. I think ill just stick to swords then.

I finally got lucky tonight and rolled a 243% conquest sword so that takes care of 1 of his hands. Until something better comes along. Gotta grab another and start rolling again. What is best to socket it with in your opinion? An eth for that bug in the guide i think. But for the others? maybie a ed jewel or something...

Just finished running through normal and i admit that a frenzy barb is quite fun. Had a store of lower to mid lvl unique swords saved up. And there doing ok for now. Until i can use that conquest sword.

I do think he will be mainly a mephy runner to start equiping the other characters i want to make. Think a 4 socket ptopez armor works? until i get a skulders? or better to just make a smoke and look for mf elsewhere? Suppose ill find out once i get to hell.

Right now the only Mf he has is the 2 ali babas and a few sc's

Re: 1.09 Roll Call - Goals, Progress, Finds

For a barb you have Nat Res, so 4 pTopaz armor is actually what I used for a long time. Eth, Amn, Shael for that sword, unless you already have plenty of leech, then Eth, Shael, ED jewel.

Re: 1.09 Roll Call - Goals, Progress, Finds

Nice to see some activity here!

After 9 magic/rare serpentskin armors, finally an unique one dropped. I was hoping for a medium roll, but got this...

Skin of the Vipermagi
Serpentskin Armor
Defense: 281
Durability: 16 of 24
Required Strength: 43
Required Level: 29
Item Version: Expansion
Item Level: 90
Fingerprint: 0x998f5a3e
+120% Enhanced Defense
Magic Damage Reduced by 12
All Resistances +35
+1 to All Skill Levels
30% Faster Cast Rate

My original plans for going with Guardian Angel needs some serious thinking. With a 1mdr-from-perfect roll Skin of the Vipermagi might be a better solution. Too bad I already pumped strenght for GA. I don't even know if I need Tgod's with some MDR (MSLE monsters are quite rare and with 75% LR and ~20 MDR I think I can handle them). After all, I got a nice credendum belt waiting to get some use.

I just love the 90/90/90/90 resists with max block situation and GA gives me that. It's safety like none other. But I don't know if I could hit 4x90 resists without moser's shield (I don't want to sacrifice more +skills (viscetaurant shield) to achieve safety..) It's a tough choice! I guess I'll decide when wizardspike/oculus drops. With wspike I'll go the GA route and with oculus I'll go the skin of the vipermagi route.

Re: 1.09 Roll Call - Goals, Progress, Finds

Wow nice find mate. Ive been hoping for one of them myself.

I think id take the skins over GA. Fcr and skills are better then 15% extra resists to me. The novelty of being nearly invincible is fun though.

Just found a champion sword and am rolling it over and over. about 100 chippies in and best is 186% ed so far. Starting to think i shoulda kept that untel something better came.

Re: 1.09 Roll Call - Goals, Progress, Finds

I'd go Skin/Occy for the MF and skills. Wizzy is nice too, but most useful if you need the 105 FCR, and you need Skin/Lidless to make that happen. The only element that will kill you fast is MSLE - and a single item makes that your friend - Thundergod's Vigor. If there is any adjustment I suggest over using Occy or Wizzy when they drop, it's to farm a TGod's and put that on. That gets the only resist you REALLY need to 85 and grants you absorb - makes MSLE turn into life leech for your sorc.

@Enochdarg - you can shop champion swords from Hell Act 3 - you don't have to wait for them to drop. And I agree - if you get a nice roll, keep it and shop another base, and roll it for something better.

Re: 1.09 Roll Call - Goals, Progress, Finds

Yeah D2 is funny that way.. It can give you crap for the longest of times and then surprise you in a big way! Keep on rolling!

One of the main reasons I'm thinking about GA is the 20% better chance to block and 30% Faster Block Rate. It makes max block quite easy to achieve. So I got excited when I found GA and started pumping strenght waiting for a Wizardspike to drop. But... Now I tasted the FCR on skin of the vipermagi, and I don't know which way to go..

Re: 1.09 Roll Call - Goals, Progress, Finds

Ok finally got a cruel on that champion sword.... only drawback is its got knockback on it as well.... blast. Ill keep it though sence its 274%ed.

Good tip on shopping swords. I just tried remembering the 4 or 5 you listed to roll and waited untill a blue one dropped. Ended up with champion and conquest swords.

What would be the best combo of 2 swords for the fury barb? Those 2 work good enough you think?

Re: 1.09 Roll Call - Goals, Progress, Finds

Ha... that's D2 for you... you finally roll Cruel and it gives you knockback. Yeah, champions are my choice for the speed, range, and lower requirements... and you can shop them (unlike conq and cryptic). Mythical would be my second choice, but the reqs are high.

Re: 1.09 Roll Call - Goals, Progress, Finds

Well HammerTime the hammer frenzy barb has begun his journey. It has been a slow start, mainly because I could not remember how to get the players setting to change in 1.09b. I had forgotten about the difference and finally got it working this morning. The other main culprit has been because of the lack of any damage I have been doing so far with my fists. My bow girl has helped some even though a construction site does not seem like a place for a lady of this type. She can help out until I defeat that dreaded beast at the bottom of the catacombs and meet with a pokey stick pally man. I finally made it to retain the malus, but inadvertently out of habit went to repair equipment and it was stolen from me! So now it's off to face that beast with bare, well leather-gloved, hands. Level 15 has taken quite some time to reach but it has been a fun venture time travelling so far. That and I have also gotten my 5 year old to start playing and he just finished tackling andy in 1.13 with a army necro. He was very excited that he "beat the level before dad." he's been giving me crap about that all day. More to come soon!

Re: 1.09 Roll Call - Goals, Progress, Finds

Could anyone give me some info on cows experience, like how many runs it might take my frenzy barb to get a level past 95, and how long a run might take (assuming I am well equipped) on p8. I have the itch to get a barb up to level 99, and am trying to decide between 1.07 and 1.09.

Re: 1.09 Roll Call - Goals, Progress, Finds

I read somewhere that its about 250 runs to 99 at 10 mins a run. I think. so 2500 minutes or 40 hours about.

Personally my frenzy barb is still in nightmere but the cows here are much slower then my sorc and zon. The 1 at a time frenzy just takes longer. Even though the attacks are blazingly fast.

Robby should be great to answer that one though. He got his 1.09 frenzy barb 99'ed

Cheers
