1.07 News, Info and Gossip

Re: 1.07 News, Info and Gossip

1.07 was having a small but pretty active community before, about the time this thread was new the 1.07 population was at its peak I guess... It's cool with all the mysterious cube recipes and crafting, racking and other haxxing, but honestly, it's a broken patch :P I guess when you go back to the comfortability of 1.10+, you'll get too lazy t ogo back.

That being said...
I'm thinkig about getting a sorc back in 1.07. I have 1.07 installed and all, but I've lost my characters and almopst all items (like alot of +17-20 max dmg charms traded from jae, some of the special 1.07 items, although no akraines or shako's, and a bowazon geared to hit really close to 100% cb!)
It's just that leveling until the good psells is sooo tedious I don't wana do it again, and I don't use the moded file that allows multiple applications to run at once... Maybe I should get that... And if I make them all bowazons and let them join in on killing the ancients, I get 7 extra hf drops and a shot at getting a gmb, btw great discovery on the bow jae

Re: 1.07 News, Info and Gossip

Interesting observations! If CB is transferred as well, loading up on CB could be a great method for cow runs!

Most like CB is transferred to each bolt. However the only source of CB I have right now is Rattlecage, and I hate chasing after terrored monsters. Killing speed is alright so far so CB isn't really needed at the moment.

That's why leveling with a party is much better.

Re: 1.07 News, Info and Gossip

Say, I was wondering about an equipment setup for 1.10+ melee Sorceress builds, an 'abbot' kind of idea. It would involve the 1.07 Gladiator's Bane and the 1.07 Gerke's Sanctuary. I'm not sure whether I have the mechanics right, though.

The Gladiator's Bane
Wire Fleece
Required Level: 85
Required Strength: 111
+150% Enhanced Defense
Magic Damage Reduced by 20
Damage Reduced by 25

Attacker Takes Damage of 20
Poison Length Reduced by 40%
Indestructible
+30% Faster Hit Recovery
+50 Defense
Cannot Be Frozen

Gerke's Sanctuary
Pavise
Defense: 177
Chance to Block: 69%
Smite Damage: 10 to 17
Durability: 72
Required Strength: 133
Required Level: 44
+125% Enhanced Defense
+25% Increased Chance of Blocking
Damage Reduced by 15
Magic Damage Reduced by 15
Replenish Life +15
+1 to Vitality per Character Level

With these two items, we already have 40 PDR and 35 MDR. They still have room for sockets, so up to 54 PDR is possible.
This is where it gets technical and where I need your help. This is my thinking:
Energy Shield converts damage to life partially to damage to mana. So, PDR ánd MDR help to reduce damage. An attack that causes 100 physical damage to a Sorceress with 35 PDR and 20 MDR with an Energy Shield that absorbs 50% damage would receive 15 damage to life and 30 damage to mana. Since elemental resists are ignored (above 0%), MDR helps to reduce the damage where resists can't.

So, is this technically right?

Using a (1.07 or normal) Vampire Gaze and String of Ears would add at another 20 to 30 MDR (and DR% to cut any remaining damage, but that's not that important I'd say), 16% life leech and 8% mana leech. From The Gladiator's Bane we already have CBF and 40% poison length reduction (nice, since poison ignores ES). Gerke's provides 1 Vitality per character level.
Rings could be something like Nature's Peace (PDR and poison resist).

The mentioned 1.07 stuff is generally a bit better, but this could also be done using all 1.10+ equipment.

So, could this be a decent 'abbot' kind of character, while still be able to do good damage? +skills would be a little low, so Passion might not be that good. Kingslayer perhaps?

Re: 1.07 News, Info and Gossip

Hello fellow 1.07 crew.
I have a story to tell, one that (if you want) contains both news, info and gossip!

I was questing trough act 5 hell, when a great sword with 3 open socekts dropped. Seeing the base item itself was an upgrade for my merc, I decided to throw soem runes in it and give it to him to boost his damage. After all, he's doing over 50% of the killing atm. Anyway, since I couldn't cube up a Pemerald yet, and I only had 1 tal, I decided for 1 tal and 2 ort runes. For the 'cool looks' I put them in 'OrtTalOrt'(like people put 40/15, zod, 40/15 in their eth tombies :D),
and to my big surprise: Storm!

I have never heard of this rw before, I haven't seen it in any RW lists for 1.07 and I did a quick google search without luck. So from my point of view I am quite happy to have discovered a new RW, a highly useless one as it only adds 25% PR, but if this is really an undocumented RW, why can't there be more of them?

In ATMA it jsut shows as a gemmed great sword so at first I though it was soem disply bug ingame, but then I remembered that ATMA doesn't like 1.07 RW's, and my merc does in fact gain more PR when I equip him with it.

So, what are your thoughs of this? Maybe you have known about it for a long time already and I'm just a fool, looking for mystery where there are none. Maybe this is another know lame RW, just that I missed it, or if not, maybe you find it as interesting as I do?

Thanks for reading
/zarf

Re: 1.07 News, Info and Gossip

That's pretty cool! I've never heard of people actually making runewords by accident.

I've done a bit of searching around, and it appears that Storm was supposed to be a hammer made using "El Tir Hel Nef Tir". Read about it here.
Notice that Pattern interestingly enough starts with "Ort Tal Ort".

I do think it's undocumented though. If you could forward these kind of runewords, there might have been another runeword finding craze...

Re: 1.07 News, Info and Gossip

That's a bit crazy! Thanks for the very throughout list of 1.07 RW's, although how much can we thrust it? Seeing 'storm'is listed as El Tir Hel Nef Tir and not Ort Tal Ort.

Yeah I know! I think it's somewhere every d2 players dream to accidently find a RW :D I magine if you never went to AS or any forum for info, and you're trying to make a +5%life/%damage to mana/CBF armor and you are presented with enigma :D

Re: 1.07 News, Info and Gossip

No need to thank me for that list, I just found it.

But yeah, finding runewords is crazy business... The odds are astronomically low of finding something. It would not surprise me your case is unique.

I just found out that I had a huuuge brainfart here, thinking that MDR reduces the damage TO mana:

Energy Shield converts damage to life partially to damage to mana. So, PDR ánd MDR help to reduce damage. An attack that causes 100 physical damage to a Sorceress with 35 PDR and 20 MDR with an Energy Shield that absorbs 50% damage would receive 15 damage to life and 30 damage to mana. Since elemental resists are ignored (above 0%), MDR helps to reduce the damage where resists can't.

Re: 1.07 News, Info and Gossip

Hi all, been awhile

First off waddaya think of this ring?

Wraith Turn
14 str
3 min damage
11 cold resist
36% life leech
Lvl 1 confuse charges

I liked anyhow...

Secondly, i've been considering the update to 1.12, as i feel i've accomplished 90% of what i was out to do here in 1.07(and its been a blast)
So, after i score my kelpie snare, what is the recommended method to go about this?

I ask because i've been advised by a friend to create 5-6 mules(as this is what it would take to hold all the items) and just update them to the current patch.

Any input from anyone who has even limited knowledge on this topic would be sooo appreciated, as i've been told this transition can be tricky if not done correctly.

Thnx for help as always...

Any 20%+ life leech ring is, in my opinion, great. To have one with 36% AND 14 strength is simply amazing. It's almost like having Dracul's Grasp for a ring!

I liked anyhow...

I've never read anything about forwarding stuff, so I figured it would be no biggy. I'd say patching 1.07, like your friend said, is the way to go.
Maybe ATMA has a function to 'update' savegames? I'd assume that would be acceptable by the community.

10chars blablabla

Re: 1.07 News, Info and Gossip

As far as moving items forward, using mules has the obvious feature that you can keep the 1.07 characters that you actually play with (high-level or built for 1.07) in 1.07, in case you want to later return to rack-running or playing 1.07.

The standard method of moving items forward, assuming you have multiple installs already set up, is this:

1) Create 1.07 mules in the 1.07 game.
2) Use ATMA or self-MPing to move items to the mules.
3) Move the actual mule character files to your new version save directory (say 1.12)
4) Open the mule character in the new version.

At that point, the game will update the items- elite weapons get their improved damage and 1.07-only runewords stop working, for example. Most things pretty much stay the same- like the 32% life leech rings, 28 mana per kill items, remarkable uniques, (and terrible uniques too!) unique and set prismatic jewelry, and there are those remarkable charms. Of course once you open the character in the newer version, there is then no going back. If you plan on playing some in the intermediate versions of 1.09 etc, you may want to do the same thing in smaller steps.

There isn't any way to convert items from 1.07 to a newer version in ATMA, and I believe ATMA prevents you from moving and item from a 1.07 character or stash to a newer version character or stash.

Re: 1.07 News, Info and Gossip

Thank you both for the response. I do NOT have multiple installs set up right now.

I'm painfully computer illiterate when it comes to such things.(Amazingly so)

I s'pose I'll just do the patching w/ 5 full mules route, as it seems to be the most painless route atm.(I'm still gonna nail down that Kelpie first b4 its even considered further)

THNX...

Re: 1.07 News, Info and Gossip

You can always create 1.07 characters with ATMA, regardless of which game version you have installed. So you can update to 1.12 but keep all your 1.07 items in the same 1.07 stashes. Then, if you want to forward something, you create a 1.07 character with ATMA, in your 1.12 save folder, load him up with 1.07 items and open the game in 1.12. The items will be 1.12, and you don't need 1.07 installed for the process.

Also, that's pretty awesome finding a runeword on your own zarfen :)

Re: 1.07 News, Info and Gossip

@raconteur: That's an awsome ring! high-ish str, awsoemn leech, small resist and minor +dmg, no worthless mods! And also, the confusion charges could be really awsome, situationally, I'd think... Like on a melee baal-runner if lister spawns with nasty stuff, you could confuse his minions.

@Fabian: I know right  I should really go hunt for more, plugging random crap in random gear, but I don't feel I have the time/1.07 runes for that... Especially since all 1.07 RW's officially suck!

Re: 1.07 News, Info and Gossip

Hey all,

Another good item post, this ones a charm snagged from a LK chest in my efforts to snag that Kelpie...Bloody Grand 11 to min. damage.

As I understand it this is perfect.

O.K. bragging over...back to that rack.

Re: 1.07 News, Info and Gossip

Well, I've finally racked a total of five Laying of Hands. This is because I can spread them among different versions (should I want to backtrack) and ultimately have the leasure of not constantly having to switch around in 1.12.

Now I've found a stable Wire Fleece rack. I'd really like to have an 1.07 GB for a melee Sorceress I have in mind.
Could anyone please confirm whether The Gladiator's Bane can drop in LK? I can't seem to find the item and quality levels. I do have a document with all uniques and the item levels of the base items, but it conflicts with the data from the 1.07 guide, so I trust neither of them right now. Anyway, the 1.10+ item level is lower than that of a Balrog Skin, so I'd assume GB drops just fine, but I wanted to make sure.

Also, what do you guys think about using GB as an end-game armor for Act 5 mercenaries? I wouldn't know whether the DR and MDR bonus would outweigh the life bonus (remember, only life per level works, not vitality per level) from Arkaine's Valor? I thought the damage in 1.07 was generally lower, so DR and MDR could be quite valuable mods, I'd say.

Re: 1.07 News, Info and Gossip

If you look at the item lvl/rarity of Arkaines,Grandfather, etc which can both drop there, smart money says that GB can drop as well.

RTB's post in the 107 addenda lists Balrog Skin and Col. Blade as TC78, and Wire Fleece is in TC72...SO, I'd run that rack.

Perhaps one of the real pro's can comment...

I cant imagine why that wouldnt be end-game worthy on an act 5 merc.

Yeah, I'm guessing it could drop as well. So far, I haven't found a rare or unique yet, so I can't confirm anything yet.

BTW, this rack also drops Sharkskin Belts, when TK'd from far enough. This is great, because I was looking for an extra M'avina's Tenet for Pindle runs in 1.12.
So remember people, TK racks (especially racks close to the WP and racks that already drop something interesting) from afar to see if they drop something else!

Re: 1.07 News, Info and Gossip

Hi everyone.

I just started playing 1.07 so I can get a eth 4os cryptic sword. I also like the prospect of the ridiculous possibilities on charms and rings. I've started a sorceress and I intend to skill her this way:

20 Frozen Orb
8 Cold Mastery (I expect at least +9 to cold skills eventually)
20 Static
~15 Teleport

1+ warmth
1 shiver armor

I may put more points into Blizzard once those are done. It'd be nice to have maxed FO and maxed Blizz. Is Energy Shield viable in 1.07? Since TK doesn't synergize ES, is ES useless?

I've read these guides:
http://www.purediablo.com/forums/showthread.php?t=678857
http://www.purediablo.com/forums/showpost.php?p=6601541&postcount=25
http://www.purediablo.com/forums/showthread.php?t=472485

Any other tips or advice is appreciated.

Re: 1.07 News, Info and Gossip

First, I got a question of my own. Where do you need a 4os Cryptic Sword for?
I think it would only be fair to point out that ethereal bugging weapons in SP is actually caused by ATMA, not D2 itself. The community's stance towards this is that it's still acceptable to do it, though.

Energy Shield is not only useful, it's a must! Especially considering you'll most likely be (ab)using the infinite rejuvenation potion bug*. Also, resists are taking into account before ES.
Do not spend too much point in it, though. I think I've spend about... 7 points or something? I wish I had put only 1 and put the rest in Warmth instead. This is because with ES, mana regeneration is basically health regeneration as well. Also, more points in ES only divert more damage to mana, and it will be drained far more quicker than your health. Lastly, eventually you'll have access to 'hit points' items like Harlequin Crest and Arkain's Valor, which will pump your health to very high levels.

What did you mean by putting more points in Blizzard? I think you mean Cold Mastery, right?

Anyway, my ideal skill point setup would be as followed:
20 Frozen Orb
20 Static
20 Cold Mastery (though some people prefer not to max. Either choice is fine)
20 Warmth
1 Telekinesis (very useful, you can use it on WP's, your stash, racks, any item, etc.)
1 Teleport (will get you by, since you'll be spending mostly in Energy)
8 Prerequisites
1 Energy Shield + remaining points
(No real need for a cold armor, I think)

For your attribute points, I'd shoot for:
Str: 169 (for Arkaine's Valor)
Dex: 0
Vit: 0-100 (whatever you feel comfortable by; I think 0 is best in the long run, but very, very hard while questing)
Eng: the rest (for Energy Shield)

*Infinite rejuvenation potion bug: have one or more rejuvenation potion in the bottom row (the one always visible) of your belt. Next, sell a rejuvenation potion to a vendor (make sure to have at least one left in your belt). Buy it back by using Shift + right click. Now the entire row in your belt will be filled with rejuvenation potions.
Works with other potions as well.

Re: 1.07 News, Info and Gossip

1.07 ethereal weapons get an additional 50% bonus to max damage when they're brought forward. I want to make a nice Oath for my Avenger.

I tried using ES without TK on bnet a few years ago, and it was an utter disaster. Vampires' fireballs completely drained my mana in one hit. So, I was assuming that it would be like that in 1.07. Also, the 1.07 builds guide I linked to didn't mention ES. I'm still skeptical about using it. If I'm abusing the infinite rejuv bug, then what good does ES do? Since my main attack is timered and teleport will only cost ~5 mana, I don't need a large mana pool, and again, I'll have rejuvs, right? How is using ES and pumping energy/mana more important than vita/health? Also, aren't many of the life items' bonuses based on the life pool?

  • It seems like using ES and pumping energy would make my character more fragile, but allow me to spend more points in warmth and spam static more frequently.
  • Spending points in Teleport and vita would make my character safer.
  • Either approach lets me teleport well enough. Though I don't think that I'd need to spam static very often.
  • It takes 4 skill points to get that first point in ES.

If Shiver Armor works in 1.07 the same way it does in 1.10+, then it goes a long way to making the character safer. Shiver Armor chills melee attackers at the beginning of the attack animation, so you can easily dodge any melee attack.

Also, I did mean blizzard. There were leftover points in the setup I was planning, but I see now how they would be better spent in warmth.

This is what I'm considering now:

20 Frozen Orb
20 Static
15 Teleport
10 Cold Mastery
10 Warmth (the rest)
1 Telekinesis
1 Shiver Armor
5 Prerequisites

Str: ~70, I don't expect to find Arkaine's Valor anytime soon.
Dex: none
Vita: all
Mana: none
Save: ~100 in case I do find a nice item I want to use.
