1.07 News, Info and Gossip

I hope you guys don't mind a few questions I could probably find the answers for if I did more searching. It's not like this thread has too much traffic as it is though so I hope it's cool :)

Anyway I'm a 1.07 noob, I just reached LK in NM and I was thinking of doing my first racking. Are there any more racks I should be looking for other than the ones listed in the 1.07 guide? What I'm mainly looking for are items that are useful in 1.11 that are better when you find them in 1.07

Not a lot of stuff from NM racks that can't drop from monsters. You're better off pushing to be mat/pat as soon as possible, level at cows (if you even bother, only crafting benefits from being high level) and do your racking in hell LK and nilly temple.

However, when I hit NM LK, I had a fairly reliable Russet Armor rack, so I racked a skullder there in a few days. So if you have a reliable rack which drops something potentially awesome, run it. If not, push to hell. It's not too hard with a caster, and the ancients give a niice level boost.

Whilst its true that you can get most of the stuff that you can rack from NM Kurast from mobs, the chances of them actually doing so are pretty low.

Off the top of my head, the things (IMHO) that are worth racking in LK NM are:
1) Russet armors (Skulders)
2) Demonhide Sash (String)
3) Winged Helm (Valk helm and the set version is useful too)
4) Grim Helm (Vamp Gaze)
5) Sharkskin Belt (Mav's)
6) Gilded Shield (HoZ)

I agree with Helvete that unless you A) have a very stable rack dropping from the above list or B) are really struggling to progress, you'd be better off pushing on to Hell LK and racking there.

In terms of things worth racking that aren't in the guide, I mention a few in my addendum (which is linked to on the first page of this thread).

I'd wait til hell, it's enough of an effort getting a decent seed for racking without being limited to only about 5 item types that are actually worth the effort. Exceptions would be sets which are really easy to rack and in some cases very good, I love my mav belts and gface.

I thought the 'Jeweler's' prefix was 1097... so those aren't actual ATMA readouts, are they?


@Fabian: racking in NM is probably best limited to items you can use to get through the game or items that give FRW for better future racking. So, the answer depends on what kind of character you have and what merc, if any.

Set items are easiest to rack so you might try Hwanin's Bill for Act II merc, Mav's Belt and so forth.

@KrAzY3: Tal's Orb is available from the NM council or Hell council with reasonable odds. If you aren't up to killing Hell council with enough MF for "all set" drops, then just kill the NM council as fast as possible. I got both mine from Hell Travincal with no MF to speak of, just kill-fast gear.
 
jeweler's prefix is pretty uselss in 1.07 as blues can get 4 sox from larzuk. crafts can get 3.

When shopping for elite/exceptional items I like to use a char with insufficient str/dex req to meet the requirement of what I'm after but enough to use lower tier equipment, saves time and irritating near misses.
 
I'm trying to max out my amazon's run speed, currently has highlords+mav belt+rare circlet+sander boots, is there a way of getting a blinkbats form or any weapons with frw (don't think these exist?) that will be worth the time spent getting them? If anyone knows whether I can run a boss for a razortail, that'd be great too. I want 2 of them, 1 for 1.07 java and 1 for 1.11 non ama builds, but hardly seems worth racking compared to stuff like shako.

Hell act bosses with 556% MF would be your best bet for those, I think. Good chance for unique jewelry too.

I'll do some more baal runs or maybe give duriel a spin. I've done Andy and Meph quite a bit and found they each drop a small selection of the same uniques almost all the time, to the extent where I doubt it's a coincidence. I'd be interested in knowing if anyone else has had the same experience... I may start recording drops for a bit.

I may also farm cow king a little with sets only mf amount, I've never had even one piece of CK's leathers in SP before. Plan is to poison him, tp to town, let king die, then return and pick up items - can anyone confirm this won't complete cow king quest? 2 player games isn't really an option for me atm.

I've had that expirience, and I know others have too. I think it may be a map seed issue, but I'm unwilling to test that atm because I have too great a rack map atm.

You're not seriously concidering hell baalruns with 556%MF? Baal will use his one-shot attack on you, most likely, so be sure to do it just after a lvl up (to avoid too much exp loss).

About the cow king, I have no idea.

It is hard to imagine having socket quests to spare outside of rushing a bunch of characters to the Bloody Foothills. For me, they are rare and valuable, so the jeweller's prefix is good. Otherwise, possibly barring MF, my mercs sure as hell aren't getting any sockets in their gear.

Bosses in NM and Hell drop from the same TCs as their Normal counterparts, so Meph is capped at TC 33 and Baal at 39 regardless of difficulty level. As for Razortail, Baal can drop it but why would you want it? The 1.07 version only has 1% chance to pierce.

@yiuman: would you mind posting an actual cut-n-paste of the ATMA readout on the Prefix 1067 Great Helm of the Mammoth and the Prefix 1002 Bone Shield of the Mammoth? Thanks.

1%? I guess all the mods like the 1% fcr on crafts is a bug then, I think it's meant to be this (off d2realms archive).

Thats exactly what I do (I currently have about 45 toons at the start of Hell waiting to be HF rushed if/when i go back to 1.1 and most of them have socket quests/Ral Ort (for crafting) Tal rewards to use). Cheesy I know, but I'm not against a bit of cheese with my D2. I don't trade and I only MP with brand new untwinked toons with some RL friends (and that rarely) so I play the game in the most fun way for me, and that means cheese :grin:

You were right that they weren't cut-n-pastes (I only realized when you posted that that you can actually copy and paste from ATMA - how dumb am I!), and even more embarrassingly the shield only got 2 sockets (despite my earlier post with 3 - that'll teach me to post when I really should be in bed - sorry for misleading y'all). I still think that it is a fairly kickin shield though. Here are the actual readouts with the real prefixes in brackets afterwards.

I have 2 rising suns but they're both ilvl 90 which means meph I think - I don't think Andy is the best target for them. She gave me highlords though.

Beware, they have no +2 fire skills in 1.07 so they're basically completely useless except for the integer absorb.


Oh and yeah when I run baal I run a pretty high chance of getting 1 hitted and my merc always dies once. You can static from a position you can't get hit by baal's worst attack though using the pillars and it's not hard to get my merc (act 5 with ptopaz eth corona, ptopaz wire fleece, bk big) to finish off once I'm ready to tp and res.

Having a hard time w/Hell Baal (shocker!): my L75 Strafeazon is getting worked over after crusing through the Ancients and WSK. After two deaths and facing the prospect of corpse retrieval with Baal clone standing on my corpse, I S&E. Died x2 to the manaflame cone with 850ish life and 75/35/75 FR/CR/LR. He cloned right next to me and that was that.

I may put Hawkmail back on and rejigger my charms, but the strategy of casting Decoy every 2 seconds and strafing to kill off tentacles that worked in NM is not successful in Hell. GA is getting distracted by his quick tentacle and clone casting. Baal's just too fast in Hell. Another option is getting a Might merc going w/Kelpie Snare and Hawkmail. Current merc has Riphook, I've got GSA w/"Death" on switch in an Ashwood bow + greater Blood gloves & Goldwrap for IAS.

Advice?
