Back with v1.07 Rack Running after a (long) absence...

Regarding v1.07 Light Sabre (which I understand is a Elegant Blade in v1.07, NOT Phase Blade), can Hell Lower Kurast Weapons Rack drop this weapon?

If this weapon cannot be Rack Run, then what v1.07 monster can drop this?
(Hell Meph?)

I know Grandfathers can drop in LK, so I would assume Elegant Blade racks can spawn Light Sabres.

Hey everyone,

im pretty new to 1.07, but I've learned that certain mf breakpoints will guarantee me sets, and others uniques.

this is pretty simple, but what i dont see is how i'd be able to get that much MF on a char, an FO sorc for example, and still be able to survive

so what i am wondering is around what level should i start running, and what kinds of gear is everyone else using to get such high mf

Hello.

It mostly depends on what you can get (or how much spare time you have for this game).

I didn`t start running bosses with 556% mf before I had racked shako and 2xskullders + I had some other decent gear, but thats because death is not an option in HC.
In SC you might do good with PTopazed armor&helm for sorc and her merc (just make sure merc dos the killing blow - all you have to do is static the boss until merc finally kills him), and not worry much about a death every now and then, with some time your gear will improve. But don`t expect to get much this way (best probably being unique jewelery and Andy is the best target for that), the best uniques still must be racked.

So:
around what level should i start running
Whenever you start to feel comfortable with you runs - if all you want is Raven Claw for example you might as well do a couple very hard fights against Andy and she might drop it, but if you are aiming for a SoJ make sure you can do the runs fast as youll most likely have to do many of them.

what kinds of gear is everyone else using to get such high mf
As I said, we use what we can get. After endless (or even more:crazyeyes:) rack-runs, boss-runs, area-runs (for XP) I could put together a barb with 556% mf without merc, 6.5k life & 86% Hit Recovery break point to run Hell Baal without dying.

Edit: almost forgot :-P Some of the easiest to get mf gear (there is a section like that in one of the 1.07 guides I think) includes PTopazed armor and helm (You can use magical items - if you have some spare socket quests 1.07 Larzuk gives 1-4 sockets instead of 1-2 in later patches), same for merc, some mf jewelery (best you can get is some magical rings/ammies - even nagels have only fixed 15% mf in 1.07) any rare/magical boots&gloves with as much mf as you can get. But I guess you could figure out this on your own.

A small tip if you are using a sorceress for the boss runs.

Make sure you have enough life to take one hit of mephisto then
teleport on mephisto and stay there. He will only hit you and the Merc will survive.Static him to smitherins :) and let the merc poke him to death.

Baal is also quite doable with a sorceress + merc. Make sure you find a spot where you can static him in peace and then just teleport beside him
when he is slivered and let your merc pound on him (get out of the way your self but not to far cause merc will follow you). Yeah merc (and you) will die sometimes with this technique but with practise its definately ok.

It's actually easier (by staticing to a sliver) in 1.07 to make sure that the merc gets the boss kill rather than the sorc, than it is in 1.09+.

Just wondering about a 1.07 coronet I just found. It has the "Arcadian" prefix. Arreat Summit lists the damage range as 26-50%.

In game, the item lists as 140%, but ATMA displays 40%. Is this a 1.07 issue where the display is wrong? or is ATMA wrong?

I guess its damage to demons or undeads? 1.07 lists it as X% (like base 100%+added %) damage while in later patches its +X% (only added damage) damage, thats why LoH display 450 % damage to demons for example.
Its only a display issue.

I'm playing 1.07 and have been for some time. I found myself a LEM rune and wanted to try the SMOKE runeword (as seen on D2realms on the wayback machine).

However, when I socket a 2 socketed cuirass with these runes, nothing happens except it turns into a 'gemmed cuirass' with the bonuses from the runes = no runeword.

Can anybody confirm this or does anyone know a solution to this problem?

[edit] I even tried it with a 2 os light plate - same results (gemmed light plate).

The answer is simple: there is no such runeword, seems like those are all 1.09 runewords in that link.

Level 8 is exactly right...clvl8 * 0.66 = ilvl5 = alvl5 (triumphant = alvl4, of the apprentice = alvl5). I've been trying for about a week now (about 30ish attempts since I figured this out). I've gotten a couple 'triumphant's (low rolls tho) and a couple 'of the apprentice's. The german affix calc site I used (don't have a link, sorry) sez the odds are ~315:1 (that's useing 1.09 tables, but seems about right).

My best bugged MPK ring so far was cubed before I figured out that lvl 8 was optimal (assuming, of course, that you want triumphant/of the apprentice) and is +28 MPK/+5 STR

Thanks for confirming the level 8 computation. I was pretty sure it was 8 as I have a 1.07 character named something imaginative like MPKringer who is level 8. Her sole purpose in the universe is feeding ingredients into the cube, and I remember working out what the best level for that would be some time ago.

DiabloIngame says Apprentice is ilvl 6 and Triumphant ilvl 4 that means clvl 10?

I'm new to 1.07... Just started 2 days ago, and I've got a few Q's:

1) The godly MPK rings, I know that they are made by cubing 2 topaz + a ring, but how rare are they? Do they bug out if the ring spawns with MPK?

2) Levelling is slower than in 1.12, so what are good levels to leave normal and nightmare? And if you try to boost your level up at the end of those 2 difficulties, where do you train? Both in the cow level?

I've got loads more questions, but I'll experiment some more before overloading this thread!

EDIT: one more question though! I'm untwinked. Where do I need to look in normal difficulty to get some better gear? Probably not act bosses since their drops are bugged. Or should I just go for NM Council?

Wrong. MPK rings come from sapphire(any quality)+thawing potion+ring recipe. (cold res recipe) But i suggest that you use a lvl 8 character, it`s much more efficient. so collect every sapphire, and mule them and a cube to a lvl 8 char. I got a 30MPK, 10%FCR ring in ~70 tries.

Look for the place that is most comfortable, and has the easiest enemies for your build. (council, eldritch, etc.) Cows are always good if you have a mass killer skill. In fact I always push on, and do full clears if I find an easy monster spawn. Don`t forget that ancients give a TON of experience.

One more question though! I'm untwinked. Where do I need to look in normal difficulty to get some better gear? Probably not act bosses since their drops are bugged. Or should I just go for NM Council?

Shop or just run some areas. You won`t find anything godly, so the best is to just push on to NM council/hell LK...

Alright! Thanks for the reply. I followed your advice, and made a new clvl 8 char. Within 10 tries I got myself an MPK ring! It's one without FCR, but that'll do for now.

I'm clvl 36 right now, act I NM (just saved Cain). It's a FO/CM/Static Sorc. Things are going great so far. Are the monster levels the same as in 1.12? Probably not. I'd just like to have an idea how much my clvl differs from the mlvls.
