1.00 fcr breakpoints.

The cube rare recipe (rare + 6 pskulls) is said to output ilvl 99 items. This should be the best way to get those +2 skill amulets.

EDIT: 4th SoJ aquired, a gamble. Two first were gambles and third dropped from hell Duriel. Just reached the final act, so now the grinding for levels start. Also found a good upgrade for my weapon, another rare pike. Last one had damage 29-133 or something, but the new one is 39-181. Sadly, just a normal rare, no quintuple durability.

Rare amulet + six pskulls didn't work =(

EDIT: And I found out why - that recipe was added in patch 1.04 together with sword of the leech. Getting the +2 rare amulets seems to indeed be limited to gambling and hell Diablo. As hell Diablo is more of a pain to run than actually grinding experience to get to an acceptable level to gamble (around lvl 90 I think), that would become my focus. However, sorcs aside, I think +2 amulets are of low importance in 1.00 since most builds have skill points to spare.

EDIT2: Patch notes seem to be full of missing info, which is why I didn't spot this at first. (Can you say "full of missing info" or is that a contradiction?)

There's a ton of missing things in the patch logs. I don't know if I still have my own patch notes but there are a ton of bug fixes that are not documented either, such as getting infinite +skills on Necro and Paladins by using Milabrega's and that Necro set, etc.

As for getting +2 amulets, it's probably the easiest to do it in 1.00 anyway where gold find barbs can get gold really fast (and exp as well). You can also get +2 skills to two classes as two prefixes which is pretty cool (but kind of useless) too.

Something that hasn't been mentioned is the N-1 bug, where all ranging affixes can only have a maximum stat of MAX-1, i.e 49 fire resistance on boots (50 is max according to code), 49% magic find on tarn helm (50% is max according to code), etc.

There's apparently a way to equip items earlier too, but I actually never found a way to do it. I would greatly appreciate if anyone knows or want to try out. Here are my ancient notes on the subject:

"Details: I found a bug that allows you to use any item (excluding rings and amulets) no matter what the requirements are. In order to exploit this bug, you must empty your inventory completely except for the item in which you wish to wear. Go to a group of monsters. Pick up the item and leave it on your cursor. Let the monsters kill you. Return to your corpse and click on it. The item will equip itself. Although you can't see it on your character, it IS there and works like a charm.

Works with: Diablo II v1.03 patch".

Probably well known too is that bonewall actually drop items.

Anyway, what I meant by exp really fast is that a barb in 1.00 with a good weapon (180%+ ED ancient axe or high end pole arm) will desecrate creeps. So if you can play on '/players 8' you can clear act4 (just take minions and big clusters) really fast and level up really fast, faster than anyone else.

As for gold find, it's just because gold drop is not multiplied with number of players in game. In other words you can just find a stable map with 3-4 champions around the two act 4 WP's and kill them over and over. Since Barbs are ridiculously overpowered with WW you can use dual Patriarch and melt champions and get upwards 100k gold for every pack if the champion decides to drop gold instead of item. There's also a 12,5% chance for rare item by champions and since you can manipulate drops as previously discussed you can get a lot of high end rares (ornates, execution sword, etc.) that way.

My barb has exactly 950% Gold find in 1.00 with 15+ life and mana leech. Make sure you also pick up staves, rods and wands as well as certain items that you will learn makes a lot of cash (high end armors, harpoons, etc.) that you also repair before you sell to make more money. Max run/walk is of course very important as well.

I don't know how much gold I get per hour but my level 90+ barb fills up rather quickly, both stashed gold and gold in inventory. :)

I also wanted to develop a client less way to join TCP/IP games in 1.00. That way I could just run the binary with a parameter of how many players to join so it would be much faster than having 8 Diablo 2 clients running on one computer.

Maybe some day...

Sir, You're a real Goldfinder :D

a joke related to 007 movie Goldfinger :P

Well, I created multi games until I found a RoFl with lotsa maggots and a kind of circular map. Joined with 4 other characters, and daaamn.... sooo many maggots! I stopped picking up gems after I had cubed the flawless ones I already had, so now the ground looks like something out of candy crush. I think I'll pick up the ones for the ring recipes in 1.07 with the mules afterwards. Gone from level 69 to level 77 this game and still going.

EDIT: Apparently, items on the ground DO get deleted under some circumstances. Will they stay indefinitely in town?

@Timinator:
The way it works is to equip the set item and die IIRC. Pick up corpse and repeat. You will get the golden +skills bonuses.

This actually works with all sets and stats if I am not mistaken, and is the same case as in 1.07 (only they don't stack, you can only get the golden bonus once).

@helvete:
I am really considering installing Diablo 2 1.00 again just because of this thread. But I am wondering, how do you level up on maggots in RoF? Do you use the invisible/black platforms on the right/south east side of the map? I know a lot of people used maggot lair but there's more EXP in RoF I imagine.

so my second son is born, thus i have little time. nice to see that all is going well in 1.00 land. word of caution. if you plan to mule more characters with high lvl chars make sure you have all quests on the rushers. I have had my 64 sorc become a normal only char. cant go to nm and the diablo q is done. strange bug that kills chars. hope to get back when the poopy diapers and nightly disruptances die down a little.

Thx alot guys

@Timinator: dang we are getting old right. I have two boys haha, he was a bit early ( 32 ) But he's doing awsome. The other kid is 2,5. Hope they will have a game half as good as D2. Although college certainly did suffer. Both d1 and d2 took a few points away from my final scores. So maybe its best if they stick to rummikub and hot choco with the family.

By the time our kids go to college, Blizzard will release Diablo3, expansion 2. I failed 4 things at university, had to take another year to sort things ... as you do. However the bulk of my failing was pre big time Diablo2 ..

Level 84 now, and it's getting slow. Painfully slow. I want that lvl 86 for a chance of +2 skills on amulets, so I guess I'll have to bite it for a few more days. Gathered several hundred gems for use in 1.07 (aiming for MPK rings, and stuff like Angelic Halos with fire/light/poison resist. Maybe SoJ if really lucky).

I don't think the sorc has a use in 1.00 and since I can't find my 1.00 and 1.12 backups, I'll probably forward her.

No improvement on weapon, though honestly I think a failed unique would be better, even with slightly less damage. A pike has only 25 durability, and I can probably hold my breath while that depletes....
