1.00 fcr breakpoints.

static has insane range, even at low levels. Im currently also doing a 8 players run. its not giving alot of extra xp i fell dont know they had other xp per player in ths patch. Im running at lvl 3 i had + 6 to all skills from all the zero req unques. still its a grind pff. Im heading for act 2 with all mules at lvl 10. Ps the mule chars leach xp if there in same area. No need to be close att all.

Found 2 uniques, blinkbat and Leadcrow. Alot is dropping ofcourse in p8.

O and about the screenshot. I think you can look it up in your configure control tab ingame. I changed it to some other button. And the screens go into my d2 folder.

I also have no cinematics at all (just black screen with sound).

If I press prtscr, I can paste a screenshot into paint, however, it is just as black as the cinematics.

I use Sven's Glide Wrapper, and with 1.13 it worked like a charm, however, when I try to start LoD 1.13, the chars I see are my 1.00 ones.

Any ideas on how to fix this so that I can play either version when I feel like it?

EDIT: The screenshot isn't black everywhere, it includes part of what's going on on my other monitor.

EDIT 2: Couldn't get it working in glide, but I did find a fix for the buggy direct draw colours. Screenshots and cinematics finally work. Still looking for a solution regarding playing my 1.13 LOD chars on the other install.

Well i have not had that problem. But maybe u should try some compatability mode options. I had a strange server error and what worked for me was getting the colours all the way down to 256 and running 640/480 in xp 2 mode.
 
Tried all the compatibility imaginable, but videos/screenshots just wouldn't happen with glide. Just getting the ancient CD to work was a real pain.

Any tips on the "dual boot" thing, as in "how can I play 1.13 chars from one shortcut and 1.00 chars from the other?
 
I just copied the 1.06b modified DLL from the frozen keep. Works great so far. I have a shortcut from the game.exe. Then i made seperate shortcuts from the game .exe shortcuts so the tabs show individually
In players eight corpse explosion is simply silly BTW. 1 corspse and all is dead. Its dmg scales with players ingame. Can't wait for cows haha.

i would not know how to seprate them from the lod ones. Dont have lod installed ATM

Right click on your desktop, open the "Change Resolution" screen, and leave it open when you play. This works as a colorfix for 100% of these older style games (even Baldur's Gate, Starcraft, ETC) that I play, and should fix the black screen shot issue. You don't have to change any settings on the resolution screen, just leave it open.

Version switcher handles this. I don't use it, however. My solution to this is to move the save folders around. I have many versions installed on my machine as a separate install, with different shortcuts to launch each one. The only problem with this is, the computer seems to always revert to the highest install on the explorer tree for the saves folder, so I keep them all there. When it's time for 1.13d, I rename "Save 113d" to "Save" 1.10a/s patch same thing, just rename all your save folders to include the version they are for, and change the one you want to play for each session back to "save"

So my tree looks like this:
save 100
save 106b
save 107
save 109d
save 110a
save 110s
save 113d

Time to play 1.07? Rename "save 107" to "save" and launch from my 1.07 -ns-w shortcut!

Very helpful. I found some program (I dare not recommend .exe files found on the web to others) which patched the color palette or something based on any .exe file from older games. It worked, and I haven't noticed any viruses, so I guess I'm good. Something must have changed with LoD though, because 1.07 worked great with glide and the wrapper (haven't tested in a while) and 1.13 still works as it should.

Imbued a pike, got decent roll BUT it has hit causes monster to flee (likely 100%) which is very annoying and makes it completely useless in 5 player game as I can't oneshot things with that much HP.

Duriel dropped magefist, which my sorc uses. She's taken over as "main" character, but has some mana problems as well.
 
Made it through normal. Had to use the sorc, as I did not want to max a mastery and stick with it on the barb just yet.

Few observations:
- I ran into the "disappeared Jehryn" bug. Very annoying. Lots of user switching needed to set up another game
- D2 sometimes consumes ALL free capacity on my 3.4GHz quad core processor. Unknown why, but seemingly only happens in long multiplayer games. Which all of my games are, as I just leave them running.
- Diablo drops A LOT of stuff on the first kill with 5 players in the game.
- Having 4 additional characters in the game makes it *very* hard to keep build options open by saving skill- and statpoints.
- Static field "star shape" radius is really easy to notice since it was patched long ago
- I have never opened this many town portals, probably not in my entire career. Mana consumption is off the charts due to no cast delays.
- Monsters which don't move much (or at all) in 1.13 sure as hell are light on their feet in 1.00
- Monster awareness radius and spell target radius seems to be greater than in 1.07+ but that might be the lower resolution tricking me. Vampire lords cast their firewalls and meteors from what seems like a mile away. Like onto the portal in Arcane Sanctuary.
- Duriel lag isn't as much of an issue with 3.4GHz processor as it was with 600MHz
- Flayers make some sounds which they no longer use. Actually sounds like my kid O.o
- Maggots, which used to be my least favorite monster is now my first pick. Eggs give items and exp even when popping by themselves; same with the little buggers except you have to kill them. Which is super easy with static and glacial.
- Required level of most, if not all affixes is lower. A little in some cases, but a lot when it comes to leech and +stats
- Leech is so powerful it's sickening.

Anyone know the Cow King rules in 1.00?
 
Im currently also getting into Nm mode, The necromancer has least problems with the scaling of health so he does most work. Insane xp in maggot lair. going to try firewall in maggot laiir nm when im at lvvl 25 or so see if that works. Corpse explosion worked really well in normal maggor lair p8 but the range as already to high to not dmg the coldworm boss.

Diablo dropped well 3 iniques and 6 rares or so in p8 mode. Im facinated by this. Thhis might be a way to get sojs even easier then gambling in 1.00. If you have all uniques stashed on your other 8 mules and with that reduce the amount of stuff he can drop and have your nagel and manald in hand maybe he will always drop the unque ring? Ill have to test. But that would be the easiest soj farm ever.

O and i tried the iron maiden immortal mode. Its really silly standing in the middle of a pack of cows not taking any dmg cause the golem is making you leech so much you dont see your health drop a point. The dmg to mana from nightmoke makes my mana nice and full because i get hit so much.

He'll chose base item to drop first, which will just make your drop a bunch of rares with quintuple durability if he tries to drop something like unique buckler but a pelta is in the game. I see no reason not to keep a nagel and manald in stash or something at all times, unless you need more of them for some reason.
 
yeah maybe your right. but havng manald and nagel will for ure force soj if there is a unique ring drop. Otherewise it will be a rare. Im sure with that high a chance for uniques to drop the chance for soj is pretty high.
 
It is, but ypu'd have to rush a set of mules through the entire game. Which in 1.00 is pretty quick if you have a durimule, but getting the staff and amulet might be quicker when so many mules are involved. Or just assembling 8 horadric staves the first time and use just one mule at a time with 6 fresh ones.
 
A couple things to add to the discussion, that may not be known to everyone:

Quest sharing in 1.00 is pretty useful. Mules/rushees don't even need to be partied to get credit, much less in the "room" at the right time. It's been a little while, but IIRC, the mules do need to travel to next act in that game in order to register quest completion.

Blocking is OP. Like, majorly OP. Dexterity is not a part of the blocking equation, AND there is no blocking animation used while mitigating melee range attacks. They are just ignored. Completely. Missiles still have an animation. Still trying to decipher if this is a client/server issue (IE not displayed, but happens) or not, but never once has my life taken major leaps while going with a 69% (or higher with Twitch) block rate build.

Repair your items before feeding them to Charsi. Fully repaired items are worth more gold than the damaged value+repair costs.

I'll add more as I remember them. (Currently lv28 sword/shield Barb on a fresh restart)
 
Fire wall seems to be the best value/mana skill by a long shot, at least in the cow level which is wide open and enemies travel towards your position no matter what. Lvl 10 fire wall with no mastery is enough to run the cow king (yes, run, it seems there were no restrictions on the cow level until 1.02). Not comfortably, but it's not really a hassle either.

@ helvete does your cow king also seem to drop from what seems a liited set of items, 1 magic lowtier like sash scepter and then always a rare set unique high tier? even te other cows seem limited i had alot of long staffs for instance in cow level. In choas its alot of amus warstafs and grimwands.

im in maggot lair nm 8 chars are at 30 lvls. I discovered that if the sand maggots are to close to the mules they dont lay there eggs. this is the major key in the amazing xp. so you need a really long distance from the start of the 3rd maggot lair. to the coldworm room.otherwise the mules have to all get threw the tp and back in order for the eggs to spawn. hopefully i can get to 40 this way.

It some times feels like the xp is better when not partied do you have this feeling too?ntook a long time to get them to 25. felt alot longer then in my 2 players run.
 
He does seem to drop from a rather small set of items, yes. But as he drops a lot of ancient armors and pikes I'm reluctant to change the map. I'll look into if the 2nd item he drops is always a tc3 magic item. (I don't even think the TC system was implemented until LoD though).

I'll have to give maggot lair leveling a try, it sounds interesting. You just park the mules at the start of lvl 3 then tele to spawn coldworm, then portal out and that's it? Or do you need to enter/exit a portal near the final chamber to trigger egg laying and hatching? Do you need to kill off some of the young?

I haven't seen any unique jewelry, and no set amulets yet. I did gamble some sick rare boots though. I'll keep gambling boots and daggers (gotta find out if gull is any good in 1.00) for a while, at least until I have the level required to gamble SoJs.
 
To get a "bugged" coldworm. You need a good distance between the mules and the coldworm boss. Then get a mule killed in the lane that goes to coldworm to block the maggots from getting to you. Then you get a portal in the lane from a mule so that yo can get in and out without using tp saves alot of time and thus gives you more xp. The way it work is when you enter the tp the maggot eggs hatc. Check you xp bar for it so you know its bugged. If they are not hatching your mules are not far enough ^^ If you want to get one character higher in level you can ofcourse let the mules stay in town. Its strange but if yourr partied the experience is less then unpartied.

You have to leave as much egg laying creatures unharmed so the best skill to use is firewall. Cast the firewall so that a long narrow wall is set at the beggining of the hole. Lay some walls exit ( if mules are present in the maggot lair you get xp in town) Then reenter in the portal made by the mule end rinse and repeat. I got around a level each 10 minutes or so. I think the xp is alot better if unpartied but i want to level the other mules to.

Ps i got all my soj from cows, just wait for that map with the rare/ magic ring drop from the king. And repeat untill nagel manald soj are found. Maybe i was lucky but it was not all that much work for me. Shame you have to mule the soj so the map will be gone.
 
The map stays if you create a multi game when searching maps. Simply create the game with a mule, enter it with your main character, check it for dealbreakers (such as Cairn Stones very far away or portal in the middle of a mob) and then you create a new game with the mule to change it if it's bad. But when your main char has entered that multi game, every single player game afterwards will have that map, which means you can mule in the game the mule created and keep the map the way it is.

The "poor item selection" thing applies to the other cows as well, I get the tancred weapon every other game from a regular cow close to the king, and if I go north and kill those cows, I get the tancred helm.

I've never seen the king drop two uniques, but I have seen other cows drop uniques from time to time.
 
While we are on the subject of drops, I think the way the RNG decided what could drop was changed in a later patch. The observation you are making about cows, seems to apply everywhere that I have run. I was looking for a good worm-filled River of Flame to grind a few levels (was only 16 when I made it there) and in the process, found a map that dropped a piece of Sigon's every run from the same pack of regular mobs. It almost feels as if the loot drops are assigned at map creation, and not at individual loot events.

When I re-rolled my River to a much nicer one (one with a square loop filled only with worms. Take WP, clear worms in a giant circle, take WP to respawn eggs!) I noticed I stopped dropping Sigon's from the demons.
 
We should make a 1.00 thread like the 1.07 one we already have. Try and compile as much info as we can for the cheezy cheese-experience of cheezyness.

BTW, at what level does maggot lair leveling become fast? My mules get like 2 xp points per egg hatch.
