So is LK and Trav council the go to rune farming sites still... with trav being slightly better? Aside from just killing lots of A85 monsters or cows that is.

Indeed. Cows aren't bad either. Things haven't changed much since 1.10, even with better rune chances Trav/Cows is the best. LK is a close second.
Actually, LK is the best target for runes up to Jah (if someone wishes to cube Bers) and by far best target for Sur/Ber farming in the game (because of that juicy 11 Sur patterns). Travincal is equally good for farming Lo runes and a better target for players who want to farm Jah/Cham without Ber cubing. Comparison goes beyond runes too where LK wins also in amount of charms/gems/jewels, but loses in amount of unique and rare rings. Big difference is also because any player can run LK efficiently, while Travincal is another story. I might open thread with most detail comparison in between those targets.
Cows are not fully explored yet and it will be done during RFL round 3. They will still fall behind Travincal and LK by quite some margin, though still better than other areas in the game. It is newly discovered CS could actually challenge cows in runefarming, but only nearly and only if such farming is focused (meaning pretty unconventional style of running).

For the roughly 900 runs I mentioned above, I've only found a Mal from the superchests (along with tons of Orts, Shaels, Dols, Thuls, and Amns....but no Sur yet). But an Ist dropped the other day from one of the nearby stashes (I check stashes and the logs if they are en route). Also, playing p3 I found my Lo in The Pits, and last night (also p3) an Ohm dropped in the Ancient Tunnels (woohoo!). So from my experience so far, it's more fruitful (and enjoyable) running the A85 monster-concentrated areas.
Agreed 100% - a TON of charms/gems/jewels drop, as well as rings and amulets (though these are almost always blue, with the rare yellow and no unique whatsoever). I can't speak towards Travincal yet, because I run it with my untwinked WW Barb who is not strong enough to efficiently handle p3 Travincal (to wit, he is armed with an Obedience Great Poleaxe).
I would be interested in reading this.
@Gripphon I also would like to see an analysis on ROF personally. Because while everything looks quite bad on p7 there is still the possiblility for a "decent" run. If we have a map with 2 superchests and strangler spawn, these combined chances don't look that terrible to me. Here is some information in that case:
Chance of strangler spawn = 3/7 ~42%.
Avarage strangler kills each run if you have 2 bosspacks ~15-20
Chance of a strangler dropping a rune at p7: 1/66 ~1,5%
Chance of getting Ist+ map with superchests: (50 to 55*superchests)/65536. This translates to 1 in 655 with 2 superchest map or 1 in 437 with a 2 superchest map. If 5 aditional Ist+ patterns (because we "only" have 95% discovered and there are some locked patterns aswell) get discovered the 3 superchestmap will get a final odd of 1 in 397 which isn't too shabby.
If we multiply those numbers and do 400 runs we kill 2500-3000 strangers from which we get 38-45 runes + our expected ist+ from the superchests (see for runeavailabillity my table at the p7 spoiler). I don't know if this is viable, thats up to your analysis.

Having played with this a bit during the RFL, I don't think it's very efficient to kill Stranglers during runs. For one, it's tricky to mentally switch between 'modes' of Superchesting and creep killing. For fastest Superchest running, you'll be a lot better off not killing things around the chests, at least until after the runes drop. So with an ideal map, you really shouldn't have much of anything to kill along the way, and you don't want to be killing stuff around the chests pre-popping. Finally, for me at least, the stranglers really don't cluster very well in the RoF. I haven't run CS, but imagine the existing walls and higher density help to cluster them a bit.
