Final Fantasy Forum Mafia Game Thread

My thoughts on people:
- Well, I've been skeptical since the beginning, but I think I'm believing Zokar now. Unless something else comes up, I think he's probably clean.

- Moar smoked Drixx super fast, which is f'd up, but otherwise hasn't been giving me much in scummy vibes and the story seems to check out. Not sure, but not really ready to vote yet.

- I've been on the fence about BA, but the Squire read from JCakes lends some credibility.

- I haven't had any scum read from JCakes, so I'm leaning toward believing his claim.

- Coju seems to be expressing a lot of the same thoughts I have, especially about Goryani, and he feels above board to me.

- Noodle has been super-lurky, if I was in lynch-all-lurkers mode, he'd be at the top of the list.

- Goldtru hasn't been giving me much concern since yesterday. I wasn't around to post while the fire-fight was going on, but my own emotions were running pretty high while reading it all, so I can't judge her reactions too harshly.

...I don't have many explicit feelings about anyone else atm.

- Gory:
We are supposed to be voting for scum. If you vote for another reason, you are doing it wrong. I don't understand how so many players think it's OK to lynch someone for any other reason.
IWantToUseNumbers has it right. What do you do when you're not sure who is scum? What can you do with your vote? So far this has left us with NOTHING to go on.

Anyway, I've been getting a strange vibe off of you all game and it keeps getting worse and worse. I do not see you as town at all. You are right about one thing, I should vote for scum.

Vote: Goryani

You tout messed up strategy. You suggest a mass-claim then refuse to claim. If you're not gonna claim, I'm not gonna claim until you're gone. You've been hitting scum notes everyday, and now I hear the tune loud and clear.

---
Seems a bit early for a mass role claim to me.
I don't think I've ever survived long enough in a game for it to come up! Seems kind of odd to me too, but I'm not a mid-to-late-game veteran.

@Bad Ash -

Do you think mafia are trying to frame you without being too obvious? Out of all the players to call you scummy and/or vote for you, I'm the only one left living.

@Everyone else -

Do you think BA is part of the mafia trying what looks to be a fairly effective strategy? That strategy: eliminate players calling for BA's lynch without killing the train conductor.

If I was wearing a hat, I'd give it to you to eat because this is EXACTLY why I was on BPC on day 1. Does that mean I am town and JCakes is scum? No, not at all, but I challenge you to answer this: If this was day 1 with no night you'd probably have a different feeling of Jcakes than you do now.

You never answered me earlier so I'll ask again. Why did you mention Jcakes a bunch of times in this paragraph? If you intended to mention Jcakes, what does it mean? If you didn't intend to mention Jcakes, who was the intended player?

You raise a valid point, but I'm pretty sure voting for scum is a given. The caveat is that in the event you have multiple lynch options who all seem equally scummy(or non scummy), then your decision on who to vote for should be dictated by whose lynch will garner the town the most information.

But it's NOT a given. Multiple votes have been cast this game for reasons OTHER than to lynch scum. Several others are talking about it.

Name one reason BA has voted for me this game. Any reason at all. You can even look back and quote if you wish but you'll get bonus points if you don't need to.

Oh good grief. Ok Professor, I will attempt to do my homework. ;). I hope it's pass/fail.

I got a very flip devil-may-care vibe from Zokar that reminded me of me in the last game, ie throw caution to the winds like Braveheart riding into battle. (I actually haven't seen the movie. And Z, why aren't you in the bar? Dude!) I'm not saying he's town at all, my track record is horrible, but I felt he was being a) flip and b) getting things moving.

Who else? Oh yes, you, my former mafia partner. ;). (From my first game.). You keep demanding really specific info and then clamming up. This is annoying, is making me a bit defensive, and therefore catching my attention.

Noodle is awfully quiet. He was awfully quiet last game when he was mafia.

Techno and BA are asking very piercing questions. If memory serves (ha!) they are going after you. So I don't know, but I have to pick one, so I'm going with town for them.

Moar - she has been neutral in the last few games and she frankly scared the life out of me with that cold blooded fire bombing.

Obviously I have only been in 4 games (4?) and just because someone was mafia one game doesn't mean they are here but for goodness' sake, got to go off of something.

So I hope that clears everything up. :p

I think you answered "why did you..." I asked "when did you..." Pretty please?

I got a message detailing an attack on me.

The attack basically is a slow. Anything I did last night gets put on hold for 72 hours and then triggers, replacing any action that evening with the delayed action.

You phrased this as an attack. Does that mean you think the slow ability is anti-town?

Sorry I haven't been posting much, I've been super busy.

I'm Abraham Aldebrand, a town knight with "Cover" ability.

Also, I'm chivalrous and brave and have unmatched skill. But that's just flavour.
Or is it?:scratchchin:

The ability, the way it was presented to me, appears to have more plausible use cases in the hands of a non pro town player. Most of these use cases revolve around the assumption of private communication for timing, which generally speaking is not pro town either.
If I were a doctor, then if my target were guessed and killed one night, the next night I can't protect anybody (my slowed attack gets replayed the next night and replaces my action that night). Effectively role blocking me two consecutive nights with one night action.
That does not feel like a pro town action.

I am not sure on BA TBH. I obliviously investigated him because I thought he might be scum. Unfortunately squire doesn't say anything (he could be a mafia goon).

Do you think Drixx was shooting first and asking questions later?

This is what really concerns me about GoldTru. She had what appeared to be mock outrage over Drixx using his ability, but seemed a lot more upset about Drixx being killed then BPC.

Why do you believe that mafia aren't vanilla this game?
With all the potential PRs using this theme, it seems like it would be an awful waste! :D It is entirely possible of course, but I personally think it less likely. That's why I said some credibility. That's also assuming a belief in Jcakes.

Also, I do believe that either Drixx or Moar are mafia, which would /would have given them a Black Mage. That's one PR.

No one else on the lurker list?
Oh yeah! Practically everyone else! I just mentioned Noodle as numero uno because he has posted just enough to not get modkilled and has offered absolutely nothing of substance the entire game. CDM is also lurking hard, but has offered some substance in places. FredofErik has also been extremely scarce since his arrival, including oddly telling you the same thing I did about your "you guys should mass claim without me!" weirdness. Surely he's caught up on the game by now. Numbers, AnnualAnt, and Jcakes, have been really quiet too, but if Jcakes and AnnualAnt are claiming truthfully, that makes sense.

Did I miss anyone?

Oddly telling? Why do you think having the same opinion as you is odd?

As of now, I only see two viable lynch choices.

Either gory for his whole "everybody should claim but me". This is basically the ultimate role fishing post. If you believe it would benefit town to claim, why wouldn't you? I see absolutely no logic in this. Sure, I can see you deciding to not claim in a game just because, but with all the experience you have, you must also know that encouraging the rest to claim but doing it yourself puts you in danger of getting lynched. This leads me to think, that you really want to hear our claims, since you are willing to run the risk of getting lynched.

If not gory, then moar. I don't agree with her kill on drixx, but with the reasoning she has given, I can see both a town and a scum moar making such a play. I also think that either drixx or moar being scum is a pretty solid case - for me this makes it a somewhat 50/50 lynch, and considering what else we have to go on, that is some pretty solid odds.

For now I'm gonna:

Sorry. I had a reflexive knee-jerk reaction that Drixx was scum and posted about it. Then I stopped and thought that that was too obvious. Then when Drixx got fried I was thrown for a loop. No way Drixx and Moar are on the same team. So I should have been a bit slower to post and then I wouldn't have flip flopped so much.

I made the decision to not claim before this game started. It's a meta call. I've talked about it before. Short version - I'm seeing if I can go a whole calendar year without claiming.

Yes, I really want to hear claims because most players (almost all) have so few posts about so few subjects/players it's impossible to have a townie feel. Too many players are acting like lurking scum. If they don't want to post substantively on their own, it's my job as townie (and yours, if you are townie) to get them to.

He's stopped looking for scum or for townies. A while ago. Treading water much?

I probably won't be on later today.

Gory, I actually kind of agree with you. I wonder if the mods ought to increase the post requirement simply because the game can't move forward if everyone is lurking. I understand RL issues of course, having gotten fried in games at least 50% of the time bc of them, but I feel like we are at a standstill. I understand the reluctance to claim, so perhaps someone can suggest something else? Randomly cast truth serum (jk). Cast hypnotize! (Jk). Look deeply into my eyes and tell me all your darkest secrets (waves hand around like the Amazing Jonathan).

If nothing else compelling comes along, I will switch my vote just so we get a lynch today. Otherwise, I'm sticking with my dear Valkyrie from the frozen north, flying out of the sky on a horse and issuing thunderbolts from Wotan himself (also joke, cribbing from Wagner here, don't read anything into that).

Goryani, did you have an epiphany or something about this game? You are playing nothing like I remember you playing in the past. Albeit I haven't played much, and when I do I tend to not pay much attention, but reading your posts... I don't know how to feel about them. I'm not getting a scum vibe, just a non-goryani vibe. Your tone is still there, but it's like a wolf in sheep's clothing talking with one of those voice changers.
You did bring up a great point that we should only lynch people we perceive as scum, but

I have to do this for now. Putting players on the chopping block and seeing how they react is a great strategy imo. Others have done it and willingly said, "I'm voting to see what happens." (or smthn to that extent. I'm sure you all know what I mean.) I am more willing to lynch one of the, "OOooO Drixx is scum, wait, he town. OooooO Moar is scum, wait, she is town," players who voted unvoted voted unvoted. (Goldtru and, uhm, zokar?)

Question to all: How many people read over what they post, before actually posting, and remove a line or two? I just did. ><
