Why SoJ?

Yeah it's good, but Sorcs have Warmth, plus there are so much more better rings right? All it really gives is Mana, and if you want +Skills, isn't Bul Kathos better?

For my ES sorc, Soj was unmissable (is that a word?)

Having spent 0 points in vitality and all that isn't needed for strength in energy, 25% extra mana contributes to an easy 500+ mana in the pool, which at 75% damage drain (even at the original 200%) is far more effective than the less than 50 life Bul would add.

(silkweaves, frostburns and dual soj would double my mana pool, usually from 2kish to 4kish)

Oh, well I guess you have a point there. But wouldn't a Cold Sorc be better off with Ravens, Fire with dwarfs, and Light with Wisp?

You seem to be confused. Most caster sorcs don't max Warmth, because they want their skills going into more damage. Warmth helps with mana, but gear can help too. The Stone of Jordan helps tremendously and, on top of that, gives a valuable +skill. That's good. Bul-Kathos' Wedding Band is better for enchantresses, because they attack with melee or missile weapons and benefit from the life leech, in addition to actually maxing Warmth and not really needing much mana anyway. For caster sorcs, the mana boost is more valuable.

You seem to be trying to pair up the rings with elemental % absorb abilities with the elements a sorceress would use. That doesn't actually make any sense, though. There's no reason that a cold sorc in particular would benefit from Raven Frost's cold absorb. It's not as though monsters that use cold attacks spawn more often if one is using a cold sorc.

The level requirement is only 29 right? And BK has a req of 60 something?

Thats another thing to keep in mind.

It's not good, actually both rings are mediocre for casters. But good rare fcr rings are expensive and not easy to find.

That's a pretty bold claim. Many strong sorceress skills are timered. Rings with FCR are only potentially better than SoJ if they'd push a primary skill to the next breakpoint. That situation is far from covering all casters.

I totally agree. However, pushing fcr to the next breakpoint is times better than +1 skills. If I have a chance, I rather build sorc around maxing fcr instead of mara/soj/soj, thats why I consider it a poormen's solution. Also, this might not be the case for heavy mf setups.

It seems that we are in agreement that for some builds, FCR is so vital that the best rings are ones that have it, and for other builds that isn't the case, but SoJ shines for its mana improvement and skill bonus. But it seems strange to me that you would describe rings that are, for many sorceresses, the best option, as "mediocre."

I also agree with Namtar. It really depends on the build that you want to make. You even mention that yourself. Here are a couple of mine - Matriarch Sheherazade (uses SOJs for the +skills and much needed mana since she has reached the 105 FCR bp) and Matriarch Kara (uses rare rings for fcr/resists to help reach the 117 FCR bp for Lightning.)
