OT: The SPF Path of Exile Thread

Re: OT: The SPF Path of Exile Thread

I heard about that file, thanks for the reminder.

It's a static file or something that changes as I progress (like shared stash), so I need to back it up once in a while?

I believe it's a static file that PoE uses to determine if all the content has been downloaded. I would say back it up after each new version is released (the current version as of this writing is 0.10.0d)

Re: OT: The SPF Path of Exile Thread

I think it is static since re-downloading it doesn't seem to have affected my character in anyway.

Re: OT: The SPF Path of Exile Thread

Well, I beat normal this morning! Technically I beat it last night, but I didn't realize it :p

Very enjoyable for the most part. I think I used only 1 orb besides the occasional vendor purchase, and that orb was just to increase a gem's quality. I kept wanting to craft but I just couldn't bear spending those pretty orbs when I hadn't really hit a gear wall. The final boss did put me down 3 times, but I probably could have played much better with experience. Think I died maybe 8 times in all of normal.

Looking forward to moving farther into cruel!

Re: OT: The SPF Path of Exile Thread

Put quite a lot of time in the game over last 2 dats. My HC duelist made it all the way through Normal difficulty and cleared almost all act1 Cruel too. Cruel Brutus (prison boss) hits like a truck in Cruel, I was getting some ~600dmg hits through mediocre armour.

Still playing it almost single player mode - solo with self found items.

My duelist feels very unoptimised and Ive stopped playing him for a while and made another summoner witch (which was my first character in OB, she died in early act3 normal) and she was quite a blast throught 1 and 2, but slows down in act3 now. Running 2 elemental auras which add fire and lightning damage to all of the minion attacks making them quite strong.

Probably rolling another character, every new one teaches me something, and its probably better than rushing the difficulties only to die to something unexpected.

Re: OT: The SPF Path of Exile Thread

I am in on this!

Just built a new PC, so ready to download and play! Can't wait!

Thinking of starting a Shawdow ;).

Re: OT: The SPF Path of Exile Thread

Nice work on the HC! I think I'm feeling more ready to do HC now that I've experienced most of the game.

Welcome, morathi!

I hit a bit of a wall on the fetid side quest so I skipped it and went to the ledge to level and gear up a bit. Went back and it was still super hard, that area just sucks for a bowie. Made it all the way up to mid act 2 now (cruel) without too much trouble. Using poison arrow and a split frenzy gem and is working really well. I also found a chains curse gem on the ledge, really loving that one!

I also found 3 uniques this morning! I hadn't found any before today, so that was really cool. Nothing looks terribly useful right now, but it's hard to say for sure.

Re: OT: The SPF Path of Exile Thread

Read the whole of this thread. Awesome stuff. Loving the game. I'm playing a marauder atm and I have that cannot miss skill. I'm going to tech to resistances, max life and regen life. It seems to be a decent build and I've barely died. Granted at times you need to get favorable terrain when fighting like 10+ mobs. I look for places I can't be surrounded.

Edit: can someone tell me how to share my build? I've seen people put links to builds

Re: OT: The SPF Path of Exile Thread

Wow big respect for playing this game on HC, that seems allmost impossible for me, but my fps is pretty low because my notebook can hardly handle this game.

Korgath at the bottom of the page where you can make your skilltree you can find the link to share with others.

Long boring story about my progress:
My lightning strike/tempest shield/molten shell templar tank is very fun to play and I finally found a character which I enjoyed enough to keep playing him. Im currently lvl 57 and just finished act2 at merciless. Right now i need to lvl up a lot before starting act3. Currently, this is my build: build
Going for the celestial walker passive now to boost my damage and resists some. merciless gives -60% to all resistances. All my armor items give armor except my boots gives energyhield/armor. Because of the eldritch battery passive i have about 900 mana and I can run 6 auras, I only run 5 due to a lack of sockets: discipline, clarity, wrath, anger, tempest sheild. At lvl 58 I can equip new boots and will add haste or determination or purity aura, depending at situation. Inner force passive boosts all my auras and also my molten shell and tempest shield, basically it boosts everything i have.

Allmost all my items are focused at defense and as you can see at my skilltree, it is mostly focused at defene too. Still it i allmost impossible to solo at merciless.
I have 6k armor (59% reduction), 44% blockrate, my resistance are around 60% and 1.7k hitpoints but at the beginning of act1 the boss of that little island killed me in 3 shots. At that time i only had flasks that instant healed when under 30% health, but he critted me from 40 to 0% health.

Endgame is very interesting. I now reached the point to think about endgame equipment crafting. I tried to farm fel ruins in act2, since yellow mobs drop lvl 60 equipment there and both my engame shield and weapon are ilvl 60, but it was to hard and i went back to farming the ledge in act1, which is pretty easy as long as i got 75% lightning resist for the boss.
my skills are now:
lightning strike-faster attacks-life stolen on hit in shield
tempest shield-wrath-dicipline-reduce mana in boots (when im lvl 58)
molten shell-increase rarity in gloves
anger in armor
shield charge-some support gem i dont remember in armor
nothing in weapon.

Lightning strike deals allmost double damage if I add elemental damage to it, but I rly need the life on hit passive to stay alive, the life on hit procs both at the melee attack, as at the projectiles, healing me for 4x32=128 life each hit. with allmost 2 atacks per second that is 250hp/second healed, more then a 20% quality hallowed healing flask.

molten shell is very funny skill and i recommend it to everyone who plans to go melee. it gives huuuuge amount of armor and explodes for 1k damage now, killing archer type monsters in 1 hit.

Shield charge i also recommend for anyone who plans to make a tank, it is both a skill to engage and to escape or to move faster around the map, also perfect to kill targets with priority like chaos damage nukers and necromancers. The charge goes through all other monsters when targeted, but not through walls. Leap slam is bit similar skill, but doesnt require a shield and deals less damage.

What I really need now is a 4linked helm/armor/gloves to give my lightning strike elemental damage, that is my priority.

I think the only viable char for solo endgame is a summoner, the minions scale very well and get huge amounts of hitpoints endgame, the only problem they have, just like everyone has, is dealing with chaosdamage.

fun fact: today the top3 of HC ladder died. they were partying together and died at lvl 85 from some evil mix including a multitarget chaosdamage nuker.

good info: check kripparians (1 of those 3) youtube videos. He made various tutorial videos about crafting equipment/which skills are strong (all skills he mentioned got nerfed in a patch after that video)/generals tips about playing etc etc: link

Re: OT: The SPF Path of Exile Thread

Re-downloaded last night and finished Act 1 with my Ranger. Really need a weapon upgrade. I've found two uniques thus far, some useless amulet that buffs summons, and The Battered Cap, which is actually quite useful (and my one has two linked green sockets).

Urgh... bloody game has just crashed. A couple of the Forest Camp art files are the wrong version number.

Edit: Yep, corrupted Content.ggpk file. PackCheck doesn't fix it, so I have to download 5GB all over again. Pretty shoddy game design. Stick everything in one massive file, and if some small thing becomes corrupted, download the whole bloody thing again. What on earth were they thinking?

I heard about that file, thanks for the reminder.

I believe it's a static file that PoE uses to determine if all the content has been downloaded. I would say back it up after each new version is released (the current version as of this writing is 0.10.0d)

Content.ggpk is the PoE equivalent of the mpk files from D2. It contains almost all of the actual game content.

edit: deleted double post. PC crashed. Thought my post did not go through. Soz.

Re: OT: The SPF Path of Exile Thread

made a post to test if i could link items into this forum, but thats not possible, so i will fill my post with some random tips:

-when you are farming the ledge for example, you can exit it and then ctrl-click the entrance again and choose the renew the instance
-white items improve 5% eacc time you use an item to improve their quality, so you can easily make 20% quality flasks and then make them random and reroll them until you got the wanted prefix and suffix
-selling similar items with together 40% quality gives you an item to add quality to that type of item, selling an items with 3 different linked sockets gives an items to change socket colors.
-whatever i can better give a link to all the vendorrecipes: link I think also the recipes for rare amulets are worth saving iron rings for. I find pretty many rare rings, but never rare amulets and im still using an amulet with lvl 8 requirement.

my progress
lvl 58 now and not only got my new boots, but also a new shield and an awesome new weapon, with purity aura on I now have 77% resist to all, 51% block rate and molten shell explodes insane hard and I can solo fel shrines, except rare monsters with regeneration aura, since I cant kill them, my dps shows about 700 with lightning strike, but this is exluding the projectiles and excluding the damage from tempest shield and molten shell (which shows a dps of 1700). I found the pretty interesting iron will support gem, it doesnt cost extra mana so i could link it to my tempest shield, which deals 60% more damge with it, and the reduces castspeed is absolute no problem for an aura :P. I also consider to link it to my molten shell, but castspeed is pretty important for it since I take free hits from monsters without leeching during casting molten shell.

I try to play this game as solo as possible and havent got into trading whatsoever, I sell all my items to the vendor including some awesome dagger and incredible good armor/evasion armor (it had +80 life and +70% armor/evasion) and I also sold a 5 socket late game bow. But today I realised I could give those items to you if you are interested. I saved a 6 socket sleek coat (lvl 44 evasion/energy shield armor). If you want to have it or are interested in any specific item, then let me know and ill look for it.

Re: OT: The SPF Path of Exile Thread

Nice to see even more people joining the fun (=

Once again I rolled a new cahracter, and its by far my strongest one - the first that doesnt slow down at all in the bloody act3 normal that killed my first two open beta characters. Its a very old build, one of the few that almost hasn't changed in like about a year's time - except that when I first played it in closed beta Shadow class wasn't even in the game, but a witch does just as good. Its a caster shadow with two main skills skills -Freezing Pulse (tears apart anything up close) and Ice Spear (freeze-locks monsters from far away). A great thing about it (especially in HC) is that critical strike contributes to offense as well as defense, due to monsters getting freeze-locked when the cold spells critically hit.

I also gave up my solo and self-found play and traded for a few items for my Shadow. Party play that I tried in act3 was pretty disapointing due to a lot of lag, especially every time when the full party first encounters monsters in an instance. I've already turned the all the graphics options dows, but it doesn't seem to really matter. I know that my hard drive is somewhat on the slow side though, so it might be at fault here, due to loading all the animation efffects from the drive or something?

A random thought about PoE: one thing I find really awesome compared to most other games in the genre is that even low level characters contribute to your wealth - most (or all?) currency items can drop from very low level monsters, which makes new characters feel less of a "wasted time".

Good tips there, EasyG. PoE is a pretty big a and deep game (a lot like D2!) when you get into it, I feel like I'll continue to learn and research for a long time to come, and I'm a long time follower of the game already!

Here are a few tips of mine, mostly for HC play:
-Resistances are crucial. I tend to max them by normal act2, and anything under 75% in Cruel and onwards is too low. Except chaos resistance, since its so rare on gear as well as the passive tree.
-Life is your best friend (:D). No matter if you choose armor or evasion it is not a repalcement for HP. Get those +life passives, all of them (= Energy shield still seems underpowered to me so I haven't experimented with it.
-Defensive passives seem to be more valuable in general, since they (mostly) multiply your stats (like +life%, +armor% etc), while offensive stats work additively with stats from your gear (say +%spell damage, +fire damage%).

Enjoy the Exile! (=

Edit: just some fun info - that was the hottest topic on HC league chat yesterday. Long story short: 3 of the top10 HC Ladder players died at the very same instant, from a boss monster exploding another boss monster's corpse for some insane instakilling damage. Before that the same day 1st (or maybe 2nd, they switch places time to time) player of the ladder had instakilled himself with reflected damage. None of this is considered a bug as far as I know, so to sum up: it only gets bloodier in the endgame :D

Re: OT: The SPF Path of Exile Thread

Well, I officially hit a wall, and exactly where I expected I would. Can't kill the guy on the bridge. I think I died maybe 10 times to him with my best attempt getting him down to 50% life or so.

I suppose I could just MP it, haven't done any of that yet though. I guess I'll give it another shot as I just burned some orbs getting a bit better defensive gear.

here's my build so far.
It's a mess, I know :p

Any advice would be helpful. And is there a good place to level/farm in act 2? I'm 49 now and even the last area is slow leveling.

Re: OT: The SPF Path of Exile Thread

When I attempted the quest of the 3 bosses in act 2 (help or kill), I noticed something I'm not sure was intended. When you get to the screen where you have to click your choice after talking to the bosses, you can walk without choosing anything. Instead of choosing to kill the boss right away, I moved to some decent less monster dense area and clicked to kill them. Not having to deal with all the monsters at a go helped heaps

You get reduced drops when you are 2 levels higher as the mobs in an area, so i wouldnt advice the easy lvl 45 area: fellshrine ruins. The best place to farm and lvl some is likely dread thicket (lvl 47). I farmed this area some at cruel difficulty. It can be pretty hard since those long range nukers deal chaos damage, but the area is very rewarding. It has 2 legendary monsters and can spawn a superchest.

Your skilltree hmmm xD It looks pretty awfull if its ok to say that :P I dont even understand your logic. You even skip the bow passive at the start and only go for some frenzy nodes that seem underpowered to me. I would absolutely restart :P I tried to make a bow skilltree with same amount of points, am I right you focus at physical damage? link I might have missed some obvious bow nodes, I never before made a build in that corner of the skilltree. Basically what i do when i make a build, is trying to get al "big" nodes and all life nodes with as less points as possible wasted. In this build i took all the usefull nodes near the south, there still is lots of usefull stuff and life in the north.

and some fulll build:link. note that I got the minddrinker passive in the far north, I think you will love it. You will need godlike equipment to get your resists filled up, here is how to make the ring you look for:

-Shop/pick up all prismatic rings until you find one with 12% resist to all, shops refresh when you lvl up. You need ilvl 73 to be able to get the perfect life prefix later with crafting.
-Use your orbs to make it magic and reroll it until you have a Vigorous prismatic ring of the rainbow. Dont forget you can also use orb of augmentation when you got 1 of either mod and no second mod.
-use divine orbs until you have the perfect +109HP and 16 resist all, for a total of 28% resist all.
-Now use 1 regal orb and 3 exalted orbs (most expensive orbs in game) to add 4 more mods and hope for the best.

As you can see it is pretty much guaranteed to get godlike equipment, as long as you have enough crafting materials. So dont forget to ID all rares you find and sell them to vendors. This fact makes me believe there are/will be tons of farmbots in path of exile and you dont notice them. Another flaw of path of exile is that when some hacker gets a bad roll with exalted orb, he could ddoss the server to get a rollback.

edit: putted my ring craft to the test and now i have a ring with 28% resist to all, 41 hitpoints and regal orb added another 16% fire resist. I dont have exalted orbs.

Re: OT: The SPF Path of Exile Thread

I'm married with Blood Magic. We're expecting babies.

Tree.

(Plan for the rest of cruel. After that, the build gets Static blows, attack speed somehow, survivability somehow and damage)

Active Skills are: Split Arrow+Weapon Elemental Damage+Life on Hit and Frenzy+Weapon Elemental Damage+Life on Hit. I was looking for the "right stuff" (Lesser Multiple Projectiles, Chain, Increased projectile speed, etc.), but I'm so ok with the build that I'll wait until I find bases.

Instead of following the build, I really plan to explore the totem variation (it looks like projectile totem/spell totem are good). If you're struggling somewhere in early game, Poison Arrow and Fire Trap are good to force porgression of "build went wrong". Also, you can be cheesy-ish and look at this quest rewards table.

I rolled a ranger to get some bow skills and I'm wearing a bow since act 1 normal. Now I plan to roll another ranger to move a little bit foward and fill some gaps. This time, however, I won't name her kjdfkjfdkjxkjdfxkj and delete after a couple rewards. I plan to have a physical ranger (without lesser multiple projectiles for her own use).

Also, I need to know which gems I got and which ones are missing, to avoid picking up "wrong" rewards.

The fact that you think I actually applied logic or forethought to this build is just silly ;)

I went into the game completely blind, so I build it based on what I thought I needed at the time with no clear vision of what I needed for the future. The fact that you say I should reroll just makes me want to push on and prove that I don't need to though. I'll give the dread thicket a shot, as I didn't have too much issue when I went there the first time in cruel.

Do any monsters have immunity/resistance to CC's like blind and knockback? (obviously if it's listed they do)
