Roles of Madness. Mafia Thread

Re: Roles of Madness. Mafia Thread

well at the moment we have nothing other than word, and i operate most analysis on KISS or Occam's razor.

im working the other way, because currently it is more likely that everyone is town than mafia, i will have a look at the discrepancies and probably most importantly who the mafia decide to kill, i.e players targeting them.

now obviously this is a different tactic to everyone else, but hey its my first game and ill see where it gets me, not very far i presume.

currently i can't see any credible information of mafia, it appears to me a bunch of paranoid townies to eager to lynch anyone, such actions will only drown true information in a pool of counter accusations.

Re: Roles of Madness. Mafia Thread

not sure if sarcasm?

Not sure myself either.

RQS for everyone:
How long do you think dreams can last?
How many dreams do you think mafia have to choose from?

The first one is somewhat answered by RE as stated, and as for the second... I'd guess in the region of 14 or so to cover for the game. Now, were you asking the first question because a) you didn't noticed RE posting or b) you wanted to see who didn't read that post by RE? I'm hoping A, as I don't see the benefit in trying to prod of things that are clearly stated somewhere in the thread. If a mistake is made about such a thing it's generally due to being sloppy / tired whilst reading and missing the post / sentence in question. I know, I do that a lot myself.

Just interested in the reasoning behind the question.

Depending on the dreams they can choose from, I could potentially be too overpowered if they had the opportunity to choose the same dream, multiple nights in a row.

An honest mistake with proper capitalization on the 'I', or a thought that went too far and made it on paper?

Either you are subtly claiming cop (Not a good idea at all if you are a town, that is like a giant bulls eye on you from the start, so I don't think you would risk that and harm the town. Or, more likely, you are fishing for clues to out any possible cop for the you and your scum partners to target from the off.

A lynch, hopefully scum, would provide clues about where to proceed for the town. granted, the downside is that the chances a townie getting lynched is higher than a scum, (partly because of the numerical advantage of Town vs scum, together with the the fact that there is little info available so early in the game).

But why would you not want a lynch? . The only ones that benefit from there being no lynch is the Mafia. Is it because you are one of them and are afraid that it will be you? If it wasn't for skjolde's cop remark, my vote would have been for you.

Vote: Skjolde

I like your style. It's obviously not your first game ever though, have you played much before? IRL or online?

I'm not claiming anything and I'm not fishing for anything. I was just asking a (IMO) valid question, since I just read the story?
Kori mentioned some of the same ideas, is he scum too? We are just analyzing the Story posted by RE. A

very
thin vote.

I don't get the amount of associations, intentional or un-, that've been going on in the game thus far. Also, not a thin vote at all IMO.

I don't think that the Mafia know exactly what each dream does, I think that RE still has left a bit of a surprise in that aspect. And I don't think they can pick the same dream multiple nights in a row. For all I know, the dreams may only have a 1-night use. So after using it, it gets tossed and you can no longer choose that particular dream. That could be a reasonable solution to the whole dream thing.

This... is too much information about a topic that no one but the ones owning it should know. Just saying.

You dissapoint me Goryani, getting suckered so easy. Might even do an extensive meta read on you tonight.

Please do. While you're at it, try to reduce the amount of one liners you're dropping. They run out of content pretty fast. I'd like to get a read on you. ;) Or maybe you could do that meta-read and drop a nice one liner on it?

That's a very interesting theory. We'll need to track perceived night events / non-events to see if there is a pattern of repeating effects, or if "use it and lose it" applies to each dream type.

Oh hi there, did you come from under the bridge? Very Noodle of you to just pop in with a short post. Not sure if gusta.

well if read the wiki a fair bit but with a game of 21 players all are meant to have power roles and i'm assuming there isn't like 5 cops or something haha, which just leaves me wondering other than the major roles what can there be? Assuming no masons.

Thats why i asked about the dream mechanic, but it seems everyone knows very little and well have to wait to find out. You weren't pressuring me, well you did vote me haha but its cool. You're just being a very active townie so i'm keen to watch how you find scum

1. Go fish? And why assume no masons?
2. I'm not even sure who you're referring to, but I wouldn't be so sure of anyone's alignment unless I had an investigative role and had investigated them. Even then I'd be on my toes.

I prefer guilty until proven innocent :badteeth:

The way the world should roll.

well goryani seems genuine, unless he is super good, but in that case i would be screwed anyway as i'm a noob haha

but now dont i have the problem of appearing to vouch for him? but he did vote. god this gets complicated. /sleep

I wasn't 100% sold on my vote before this, but now I am. It's like the holy trifecta of mafia posting(my emphasis in quote): Occam's razor, puppy eyes and downplaying D1 lynches.

So long, mafioso.

Re: Roles of Madness. Mafia Thread

Just woke up and have to get read for school, so I don't have time for some multi quote madness.

From what I remember:

Kori: Yea, I see now that it was a bad idea to "stand" up for another one.

Gwahir: I'm really not sure on who I find most Scum/town. I sorta feel that Cakes is town, because of the suggestion on no d1 lynch. It could be interpreted so obviously mafia that, I don't think an actual mafia would suggest it. Maybe there's some bad reasoning here, but you asked. But I need to sit down and read the whole Thread again. I don't get a clear scum vibe from anyone, so that's bad.

Ank: You're funny:) It was a misspell. It should say "It".

Someone on the Dream part: I'm just guessing. Earlier in this Thread I got asked about the possibilities of how many dreams/if said dreams could be used more nights in a row, and stuff like that. I simply thought it over, and answered.

I think I got everything directed towards me. Gotta go now!

Re: Roles of Madness. Mafia Thread

The only reason I asked if you had a posting restriction was because you used a smiley in every single one of your early posts except for 1. Was hoping you'd say yes and I could throw the one at you as a lie. But, it proved more information than I would have thought. Skojde and kestegs both jumped to defend you for absolutely no reason at all. It was just a question and a very harmless one at that.

Come on now BA, there are 2 posts without a smiley in it not one. :wink2:

But to answer this seriously. I mostly used smileys in those early posts because there was some joking and random fluff posts going on, and I didn't want my posts to appear too serious. I have a question for you now though, had you noticed there were 2 posts without smileys in them, would you still have asked the same question?

Not sure why kestegs jumped on to help defend me, I'll have to go back and read those posts again after I get a shower and some breakfast. As for Skjolde, I know very well why he did it, and I already explained that. We're friends on Skype, Steam and Origin, we play BF3 in the evenings, and he was basically relaying information that I wasn't able to post atm. My GPU was taken with me to my friends house for troubleshooting, so he saw I was offline in all 3 previously mentioned programs. And when I'm at home, I'm ALWAYS online, even though my status may sometimes say busy. I should probably stop over-explaining at this point, as it probably does more harm than good though, but I do like to give an honest, thorough reply.

OT: Btw I seriously hope I one day get a posting restriction that says I have to use at least 1 smiley in every post!

however: I really really dont like your post that I quoted up there. "just in case anyone was looking at my online status"...I understand this has very very rarely been used against people in mafia games before, but it seems to me like you signed off for the next 14 hours, wanted to lurk and realized you could be caught and came back. Thats how I am seeing your post and I dont like it

Oh... wow I didn't even make that connection. Well the only thing I can say to this is to me it seemed like a good idea. It was around 1.10 am (GMT+1) and tried to get some sleep. Those who know me from Monkey off topic forum, as well as the Noodle Compond will know I have a habbit of having troubles falling asleep. More so now than ever as I am unemployed. Last night was no different, and I felt like reading something before I went back to try and sleep. Also I know people will jump back and forth in this thread, re-reading posts (I do that myself), so figured a small heads up was in order, instead of just not saying anything and leave people wondering why I was suddenly online without posting. Personally I'd have seen that as more scummy than not.

Btw if I really wanted to lurk, why not just log off, and also make sure I'm not automatically logged back in?

Re: Roles of Madness. Mafia Thread

You can always take your cell phone to the loo for use during the dozen trips in the middle of the night. Perhaps keep a laptop in there.

:cloud9:

Why do you think it's just flavour? Every single game I've been so far has revealed some clues and hints in the story, nothing too obvious, but they are there. You're right about not needing to discuss the story any further atm though (imo). With that said, I will reference the story if it makes sense doing so while discussing the dream and what effects it might have.

I'm not sure whether it's flavour (I think it's likely) or not, and I already stated my reasons several times.

BA vs. Korial: I did wonder a lot about the "I'm just lurking post"-my self. Really did seem over defensive. But the post restriction question still seems quite weird to me - unless it was simply a sarcastic comment on Korial's posting style.

Autti: I want to believe that he's simply a noob and all that, but I'm finding it quite hard.

This post, along with the stuff Ank went through, seems really off to me.

Please do. While you're at it, try to reduce the amount of one liners you're dropping. They run out of content pretty fast. I'd like to get a read on you. ;) Or maybe you could do that meta-read and drop a nice one liner on it?

Can't promise anything, especially bluffs.

I don't think I'm ever not snooping around.

Good on you Lynley

Profile peeping? I was looking at several games so I don't know if the 100% reference is the "one" you saw me watching. WoT was the game I was referring to.

Funny, cause I didn't want a no lynch there and would've prevented it were I around, you however didn't cast a vote and were all talk but did nothing. Now you can boil that down to us doing the same thing in our own way. So by your wonderful example, town will work towards a no lynch too. In fact in that game more town than scum worked towards a no lynch.

I don't know enough about Jcakes to make assumptions about what thoughts were or were not occurring. The 'no lynch D1' idea, if followed through, leads to a path that makes it easier for mafia to win. Mafia are more likely to follow that path. Townies don't do that intentionally but mafia often do. Ergo, someone walking the same path as benefits mafia is more likely to be mafia than a player, as compared to a player chosen at random.

Please tell me how asking about the merits of a day one no lynch where everybody has power roles within the first 20 minutes of the game starting is advocating we no lynch.

This is mighty hypocritical coming from you, in several ways.

Does a game go by when you don't vote someone just to see their reaction or the reaction of others? You're not the only one allowed to perform such tests.

I never said you weren't allowed to. I just called you out for that and instead you try to defend the validity of your post which you know is only a pressure vote. Maybe I spoiled your big plan of someone cracking under your pressure and making a slip, but I doubt it. Instead I made my own pressure vote. I got what I wanted, did you? Haha

So, in five posts, three different votes for three different people. At least with this vote you had a reasoning, bad as it was. I wonder - are you just shotgunning and seeing what will stick? Or are you actually trying to find mafia? Because if it's the latter then what was the point of the first two votes? If it's the former, are you actually playing to the town's interests?

Lots of strong words in there based on day one fluff posts. Did my posts throw you off more than the OT people were having early in the game? At least you should know how I start a game, unlike the new people who aparently needed to explain that OT was OT and not associative tells. It's a bit early to start crucifing people for the way they play. If you still feel the same way tomorrow, stick to your guns.

Thank you! I was starting to think I was the only one who found it weird.

Anyway I need to run. It's 11.35 am, and I got the job interview at 2 pm, I'll be back later.

Re: Roles of Madness. Mafia Thread

I don't get the post restriction thing either.

To lighten the mood, Noodle and BA, how are you two feeling about eachother?

Re: Roles of Madness. Mafia Thread

Seems I have some free time before the interview, so It's time I did something I should've done this morning.

Vote: Pyrotechnician

I feel comfortable placing this right here until he answers or I get a chance to do a proper re-read of the events so far. He has given off the most scum vibes for imo.

I'll try and read a little as well, but I'm on the phone, so hopefully I don't miss something important.

Re: Roles of Madness. Mafia Thread

whos BA? and does SKJ vote count cos the name isn't bolded?

Re: Roles of Madness. Mafia Thread

Just to be on the safe side. Didn't notice I clicked outside the bold "box" in my previous post.

Re: Roles of Madness. Mafia Thread

OK, and i presume because you corrected yourself it wouldn't have counted :)

Re: Roles of Madness. Mafia Thread

Sorry I didn't realize BA might not mean anything to some of you. :) But yes, as clarified I meant Bad Ash.
