Heya. Quick intro...I love diablo, and I haven't played in forever. I saw my friend playing the other day, and I figured I'd give a character a run through perhaps. I used to peruse this forum a while back, and I figured, why not join a tourney? I'm going assassin, but I don't know the build yet...

I recently stumbled across this thread. Figures I should give it a try. I'm going to sign up with a fendazon for lolz. Her name is Lucille and she will probably die soon.

How do you guys deal with gloams in keep? I'm used to alt+f4 when things get hot. I have never tried playing single pass so not quite sure how to deal with this. Also, what do you do if you are stupid enought to go /p8 and you can't fight the regen that monsters put up? Stranded there or can you rerun it? Minions of destruction comes to mind.

This is usually only an issue with occasional bosses (and maybe Possessed monsters).

There are three ways to combat monsters regeneration if they heal faster than you can damage them:

* Prevent Monster Heal. You only need to hit once with this, and the monster will stop regenerating. Sometimes another hit is needed later, though.

* Poison damage, preferrably with long duration (unless a poison immune boss).

* Open Wounds. As long as you can score a hit about every 10 seconds or so and survive the fighting, this can kill anything.


Some bosses can heal themselves slightly (but sometimes enough to be really frustrating if your damage output is crappy): vampires, ghosts and Mana Burn bosses.



If I try all I can (apart from taking huge and likely fatal risks) and still can´t kill a certain boss, I´ll park it and "let it" live.

Well, my assassin met her end from the arrows of Cold Crow's minions in the Cave. My new character is a bear druid, and he just started in the cold plains. I know it's not terribly interesting, what with most people beyond act 1 normal, but I'll catch up...maybe...

Good news... will be getting new internet connection next week... woot. Christmas strikes again.

Don't worry to much about the deeds. Happens alot when your familiar with single pass hc. Unlucky is how many die. For me lost dozens in first two Acts.

Question: If we had stuff in our tourney stash with ATMA, and the character that found the stuff died, are we to remove the stuff from our tourney stash?

Yes, you start with nothing. That's pretty much the definition of untwinked single pass.

You can keep that stuff for non-tourney use however.

Thalestris has some progress to report. She began act I NM with pretty crappy damage, a Zephyr Cedar Bow, but the knockback of the Hit Power gloves did keep her safe. She spends most of her money gambling for better resists gear, Riphook and Cleglaw's Pincers, which are the only item of that set which remain yet unseen.

Not long after beginning the act, she scored some off-weapon crushing blow. Yes I know these gloves are bad and that crafted blood gloves are better, but it is a start. They're stashed in ATMA at the moment.

In one of the cave areas, Thalestris happened upon one of the two items which typically drop in the course of a single pass tourney that come in handy against Andariel: Venomward. Can you guess the other?

It was in the Barracks, after killing the smith and happening upon one of the five Rogue bosses in the area and killing her, that a nicer weapon dropped. It is Doomslinger and though I never would have thought about it, the IAS is nice, I get a +1 skill level bump, and it hits the same break points as the Cedar Bow. So, I used one of my three Sol runes and upgraded it to a Chu Ko Nu, so her pierce went from 55% to 94% and the damage almost doubled, just like that. In fact, the damage bump is so nice that I barely miss the lack of the additional 25% FRW from Zephyr. I certainly don't have to run away quite as much.

In Normal difficulty, Pitspawn was a real pain in the butt. This go-round, his minions got stuck in a door way and I could pick them off one at a time, leaving Pitspawn for last. I only got hit with a lightning orb one time, and since my LR is 2%, that's a good thing!

My first thought was Death´s Hand, but since that is a TC3 item, it´s not so common.

Isenhearts case would be the obvious choice for me.

edit: oops not just any item after I re-read that

so I would agree on deaths hand, I found one in this tourney, either that or maybe a Ravenclaw, although those don't seem to common.

My bear druid just finished Act 1 Normal. I was having some serious issues. I wasn't hitting the creatures as often as I felt I should have been, and they were hitting me for a lot more damage than I thought they should have been. Of course, I'm not used to playing without a merc, and most of the classes have some sort of summon, so I guess that's what happens when you are exposed to everything...

I decided to try and do something about the damage issue, so I went over to Gheed, and instead gambled for this:

Not amazing, but the attack speed is what sealed the deal. After that, the rest of the Jail and catacombs went by fairly quickly.

Edit: Died right after I killed Radament. I got a little too cocky...sigh...definitely not used to HC. I'll enter once again, with a barbarian this time. Who knows, maybe I'll make it to act 3 :crazyeyes:

Alas, I'm forced to retire Vanessa. New HD, but not able to retrieve the data off the old one. I don't have the patience to start from scratch after taking so bloody long just to clear normal, so this is me signing off from the tournament. Great idea Morathi, and I really hope someone makes Guardian.

@Jason. Ah, damn. Sorry to hear about that man :(.




With the demise of both Dorian and Diago, a new hero was born, his name, Heath the Barbarian. Heath is determined to not only stamp his authority, but also to avenge his fallen brothers!

My plan with Heath is to make him into a classic Berserker Barb, using high level War Cry for crowd control and a fully synergized Berserk to deal MASSIVE damage with whatever big mean two handed weapon i can find. I have a good feeling this character has a good chance of making it to the end.

So, the journey began in the Blood Moor, where heads were smashed and clubs were swung. Fairly easy progress for Heath, who used Double Swing for the majority of the act. This method was rather mana demanding believe it or not, so, i decided to raise DS to level 2, just to soften the mana requirements.

Not much else to report really, progress was rather slow and steady and nothing interesting to note occured.

Lets hope things become more exciting in the next act :).

Thalestris finished off Andariel yesterday. The bold Amazon faced the foul demon without so much as any crushing blow or friend to assist, instead running around the blood pool about 5,000 times being chased by the angry wench, stopping occasionally to fire a volley of arrows into her. With Andariel's life hanging by a thread, Thalestris donned her best magical finding gear and delivered the fatal arrow. In return for this Andariel decided to drop the utter junk which she was carrying; Some gems and a few blue magic items.

I will say though, that Venomward was awesome! Saved a lot of time that's for sure.

Thalestris ventured to Lut Gholein and faced Radament, vanquishing the big mummy. In doing so she was able to reach level 53 and get her attack rating up enough to actually hit some things (Radament was 66% to hit with Strafe, 73% with MA). He also dropped junk. She had maxed out her gold in the stash and went on a gambling spree, looking primarily for circlets (found a great +sorc skills one and a greater +2 P&B one with 30% FRW), chain gloves (for Cleglaw's Pincers), Hunter's Bows (for Riphook) and cheap boots. Right off the bat she scored Rite of Passage, but those boots are not very good so they went into the stash and none of the remainder of the gambling session yielded much fruit other than those circlets I mentioned.

Hester has reached Hell :alright: .

NM Act 5 was completed at Players 7 and went pretty smooth. Hester began NM Act 5 by making some big equipment changes. Full Iratha’s, and Smoke (Ghost Armor) were equipped sending Hester’s resistances through the roof. Resistance rings could then be replaced by mana/mf rings and the resistance charms in Hester’s inventory could be stashed in order to open up much more room for the leet loot (that wasn’t dropping).

85 to Fire, Lightning, Cold and Poison Resistance made most ranged monsters seem pretty weak and most melee monsters didn’t get anywhere close to hitting Hester (teleporting and FRW FTW :grin: ), but, Hester still had some monster problems. Cold immune monsters tended to cause problems (Fireball, Level 23 supported by Firebolt, Level 10 wasn’t nearly as damaging as Frozen Orb, Level 20 supported by Cold Mastery Level 10).

Any CI’s were bad news but Hester’s biggest problem turned out to be Sirens that spawned en masse in the Frozen River and WSK Level 1. Sirens turned out to be really bad news because they were CI, Cursed, and magic damaging (everything Hester didn’t need all at once :doh: ). Hester could (and did) defeat the Sirens using Fireball but it seemed pretty dangerous (those magic orbs hurt) and very slow ( . . . I spent about an hour clearing the Frozen River :unimpressed: ).

Most other monsters weren’t much of a problem for Hester (though it really would have been nice to have some plus skills to speed things up :nod: ). Anyhow, the Ancients were done at Players 1 and didn’t spawn with any nasty mods (or CI) making them oh so easy. Baal’s Minions were all pretty easy to defeat (Wave 1 and 2 went down where they spawned . . . Waves 3, 4, and 5 needed to be led out into the hallway but were still pretty easy). Baal didn’t bring his ‘A’ game and went down without incident. Nihlathak was somewhat concerning but turned no big deal (I always seem to overestimate the power of his corpse explosion).

Baal dropped trash. Set/uniques found included: Sigon’s Gauntlets (Bloody Foothills), Baezil’s Vortex Knout (Frigid Highlands), Iratha’s Light Gauntlets (Frigid Highlands), Moser’s Round Shield (Arreat Plateau . . . sure it drops in this tournament :unimpressed: ), Isenhart’s Broad Sword (Arreat Plateau), Snakecord Light Belt (Frozen River), Cathan’s Chain Mail (Icy Cellar), Hellmouth War Gauntlets (Icy Cellar), and Soulflay Claymore (Halls of Pain).

Here were Hester’s stats at the end of NM Act 5.

Conqueror Hester then entered the Moo Moo Farm and spawned near (but thankfully not on) the Cow King. Frozen Orb wasn’t very damaging to the Players 7 Cows but it got things done. The Cow King didn’t drop any set/uniques and neither did any of the other Cows . . . The Moo Moo Farm did offer up some good charms (including a Shape Shifting GC) but mostly it offered up some good stuff to sell.

Hester hit maximum gold in the Moo Moo Farm and upon entering Hell went on a mad gambling spree (about 2.2 Million spent on gambling rings). Hester didn’t manage to gamble anything super awesome but did manage to create a decent caster ring.

Wow! Those are some insane resists. I don't think I've ever even seen all maxed resists at the start of hell in a single pass tournament, but to have all 85's across the board is amazing. Just wondering, do you have any type of damage reduction on your gear?


Best of luck in Hell Hans. Hopefully my assassin will be joining sometime in the future (she's about to take on normal ancients and Baal tonight) :coffee:

Damage reduction? Hmm, damage reduction? What's damage reduction? :whistling:

Nope, no damage reduction here (zero, zip :\ ). I thought about socketing a Sol Rune in the Iratha's Crown but decided I was more concerned about getting trapped in hit recovery and went with a Shael Rune instead (to hit 9 Frame FHR) . . . good idea? . . I guess we'll see . . . :dontknow:

Oh joyous holidays... I've managed to get lucky. First a two socket wolf helm with 2 lyc and 3 ww dropped. Followed by a nice rare maul gambled. Maul has poison, ed%, ml, ar... topping out over 60ish damage boosting overall up to 100ish. Andy dropped in second. Rewarded with Hsarus Belt. Now if Boots ever drop lol. Any way grabbed cube made savage halberd with lit damage. Slightly better than maul. This where i stopped as I take a much needed break in lut gholien.
