Re: ATMA/GoMule/RWM etc - Help Thread

I've gotten GoMule to read/write 1.09 characters and items... but if anyone would like to help me test, send me a PM.

I know this is technically the thread for GoMule, but it's likely you'll garner more attention if you make a new thread. Typically, I don't click on the sticky unless I have a specific reason to look here.

Also, you might ask certain individuals... RobbyD plays 1.09, and I believe Fast Eddie may have some 1.09 characters going.

Best of luck with your updates! I'm sure there will be some appreciation if/when they are applied.

Yeah, I thought about creating a new post to try and prioritize my additions. I'm a little concerned that it might be against SPF rules (as this is not a Mod, etc forum), but I think I'll take a more general "feature request" strategy and not delve into technical discussion. Except perhaps to rant about my inability to find tech docs on a few of the file formats so far.

I did get in touch with RobbyD, and with his help, I've almost got the 1.09 settings working perfectly. I can load/save characters, it gives the proper stats/skills, I can move items around, etc. Hopefully I can get in touch with silo soonish as I've got a couple questions.

Re: ATMA/GoMule/RWM etc - Help Thread

Any way to confirm that RWM has started and is working? I have done the shortcut and started it through there.

Thanks in advance.

Re: ATMA/GoMule/RWM etc - Help Thread

Make a RWM-only Runeword :p. If it fails, you can keep it in your inventory; if/when you get RWM working correctly, it will changed from a "Gemmed" item into the correct Runeword, so there's no need to worry about messing up.

The common tests would be Edge/Insight/Spirit/something else of low requirements.

Re: ATMA/GoMule/RWM etc - Help Thread

Ahh boy - lil help please? Ive looked through several pages here, but no luck yet, so here goes:

Id like to use ATMA and RWM. This would be a start from scratch thing. Using Windows 7.

So I've tried to dwnld both, and came to the conclusion that i didnt have a way to read zipped files, so dwnldd temporary version of winzip for that. Now when I dwnld ATMA, I get this screen of confusion that I have no idea what to do with. Same with the RWM. What do I do with this?? http://i52.tinypic.com/2kr95z.jpg

Any help greatly appreciated.

Re: ATMA/GoMule/RWM etc - Help Thread

Update: Alright, i got ATMA to work, by rightclicking that highlited line and telling it to unzip. Now - about the RWM.

Still no idea what to do with that. The instructions say,' if youve extracted it correctly'. Ummm, exactly HOW do I do that?? Nother screenie of current stuck point: http://i51.tinypic.com/56vf9.jpg Please help.

Re: ATMA/GoMule/RWM etc - Help Thread

Extract the zip file, like you did for ATMA. You should have a directory named Runewords in the folder it made. Copy/paste or move it to your D2 directory.

In the D2 directory, right-click on the game.exe file and choose make a new shortcut (or something like that). Right-click on the shortcut and select properties. You have to change 2 of them, the command line (which is where you add '-direct -txt' (with a space between it and the end of the .exe, and before the closing double-quote)), and the start in line, which should be whatever the runewords folder you just copied is named. It's fine if you change the name, as long as this line has the name of whatever you renamed it to.

The command line should look something like "C:\blah\blah\d2\game.exe -direct -txt"

The start in line should look something like "C:\blah\blah\d2\runewords\"

Re: ATMA/GoMule/RWM etc - Help Thread

EDIT2 : Cant figure gomule out now...

Next up on my failure list, the RWM. I don't desire the red rune mod, orange is fine with me. But every link I have clicked to download he RWM opens up and downloads a 7z file or whatever that is. No folder, no other items, just that one file. I remember using both of these downloads, right from this site, without a problem last time I was playing.

So....please, I beg you, tell me I am doing something stupid. Tell me I missed the big blinking arrow, because I am lost.....

The .7z file works just as a zip file. Simply rename the extension to .zip (instead of .7z) and all should be good on that front.

If you can open the files within GoMule, you should be able to save them as well. This may sound silly, but did you make sure to hit the "Save All" button (the disc in the toolbar) before opening your character again?

Re: ATMA/GoMule/RWM etc - Help Thread

I did save it. Now whenever I go in and say, move a potion into a stash, then save it, the error "Could not create backup dir." followed by tons of lines of text, pops up.

On the RWM front, I click the file, rename to a zip, then it is a zipped folder. I cant extract all files because there is nothing in the folder it says. Do I just drop that folder into the d2 directory then?

Re: ATMA/GoMule/RWM etc - Help Thread

Ahh, I'm guessing you moved to Vista/7 from XP? That problem in GoMule is caused by outside programs not having the ability to write to "Program Files" (and "Program Files (x86)" in 64-bit) with User Account Controls enabled. You can either disable that (not recommended) or re-install Diablo II to a folder outside your "Program Files" folder (e.g. your User directory).

It appears you're correct. The file must actually be in the .7z format instead of a re-named .zip, which is odd. In that case, you'll need to install 7-zip. When that is installed, you should be able to Right-click the .7z file, open the 7-zip submenu from the menu, and chose "Extract Files here...". Then copy the Runeword folder from the extracted folder into your Diablo II installation, create a shortcut to your 'Diablo II.exe', and add "-direct -txt" to the "Target" line, just as you had to do on XP.

Re: ATMA/GoMule/RWM etc - Help Thread

Ok got the runewords worked out. I am new to this whole 7z or whatever file type. Windows seven is all new to me really. I had vista on my last one actually. But yeah, that worked thanks a lot.

As for gomule, I have to reinstall it huh? No faster method?

Re: ATMA/GoMule/RWM etc - Help Thread

I cant get either to work.
I installed GoMule and can load it up just fine. I drop all my items on my new character into seperate stashes I created. I log into diablo to find my stash still holds everything I thought I removed. Go back to GoMule, load the stashes-which still have the placed items- and the charcter, who ALSO has the items in her stash again.

I am lost....

And I cant even download the RWM. It is a 7z file or something. I cant find the download I remember, extracting the files into my diablo 2 directory and being good to go. What happend to the good old, easy days?

Okay first are you running as an admin? I'm guessing that you are not. That is probably the root of your problems. I would suggest moving the Diablo 2 folder outside of the program files folder and into say your 'my documents' folder that way you will not have these issues. Put your GoMule folder into the 'my documents' folder as well.

Re: ATMA/GoMule/RWM etc - Help Thread

The reinstalling is for Diablo II, not GoMule. It's attempting to create a backup folder in the D2 save directory, but doesn't have permission because of UAC. I'm not sure how to elevate GoMule to Administrator off the top of my head, but that might work as well. The faster method would be to disable UAC entirely, but that does limit the user-based security of Windows 7.

As for the .7z, renaming to .zip and using Windows 7 built-in Zip Extractor doesn't work (at least mine isn't working with Ultimate) in this circumstance because the RWM for 1.13 is compressed using LZMA (e.g. the .7z format) to encode the file.

Re: ATMA/GoMule/RWM etc - Help Thread

 Glad it's working. Moving OSes isn't always smooth. We need a "Read this before installing to Windows 7!!!!" thread so people know to install outside the "Program Files" folder and avoid these issues.

Re: ATMA/GoMule/RWM etc - Help Thread

Hahaha, that would be useful. Or maybe just a sticky of all the OS pro's and con's type deal. Windows 7= do this and that, windows vista= do this not this kinda thing....

SOMEONE DO IT!

Thanks again!

Re: ATMA/GoMule/RWM etc - Help Thread

Me again. Now I am unsure what exactly happend this time.
Everything was working good, I was happy and all. I beat andy, then logged out to mule some more.

I opened GoMule, then loaded up my char file. Except what it loaded was my character, 2 levels lower, with items on her I had sold or already put into a stash. So I went into my D2 save folder, deleted the save files, and was going to restart.
I get on, and there is the sorceress. I click on her, it starts to load, and....lets me play.

If I can play her, where is her save file? How can I get it into GoMule to transfer, etc? Should I just make a new sorc now?
