Schaefer's?

Schaefer's?

I was running nihl yesterday and a perfect (130%ed) Schaefer's Hammer dropped. I remember this used to be a fairly sought-after zealot weap but after the advent of grief, is this thing of any value at all?

Thanks,

Re: Schaefer's?

Well this is the wrong forum, trade value form for its value but its pretty slow like UberB said.

Re: Schaefer's?

True, it was awesome in 1.09 and is over-shadowed by faster, more powerful 1.10+ items, BUT that doesn' mean you can't use it, I have a zealot using it and it's still a good weapon, just not the best.

Point is, do you want to be Z0MGL33TG0DLYHAX or...have fun?
I chose fun.

Re: Schaefer's?

It's still a decent weapon. Max damage, a hefty AR boost, and STATIC! And the hammer//mace thing looks way cooler than a scepter..

No. It's far too slow to be a good zealot weapon.

It has no trouble hitting a 5 frame follow-up with the Zeal attack. I know that a 4 frame zeal is pretty wicked cool, but I've had elemental zealots do just fine with a 5 framer.

Maybe you're discounting it a little bit too much? :undecided:

Why do people always say that using crappier items is fun? Dieing lots (not saying using this weapon will make you die, talking in generally crappy items) isn't fun for me.

Again, that's the whole point of my post, the fact that you should do what is fun for YOU, not what someone else thinks you should do.
I use Schaefer's Hammer because I loved it in 1.09 and have fond memories of it, so I like to relive that a bit in the current version, even though I do have better weapons available.

I don't see the point in using the best items all the time because it just seems like you use the same items over and over again. I also like to set myself rules sometimes; like No Arreats for a barb or no metal items on a char, set items only etc

For me this keeps the game fresh and interesting. I've literally been playing since the day the game was released, so I need to change things up now and then.

Personally I'd rather beat the game with crappy items (which I have done) and know that I can do it with my playing skills alone and don't need to rely on items to do so. But again, if you want to use the best items, do it. If you want to explore the less godly items and will enjoy doing that, then do it.

Because being the most effective is not necessarily having the most fun. There is a lot of room between bad and most effective.

Re: Schaefer's?

I tryed Shaefers and I did not like it because it is a slow weapon. That doesn't mean it is not a good weapon, it's a great old-school item and is underrated, I'd just rather use my eLash or EDC. Hawtness>All.

Re: Schaefer's?

At the start of this ladder I went against the grain and built a Zealot/Smiter while everyone else was scurrying around with their Sorceresses. There were no High Runes to be found so I jumped at the chance to trade for a Stormlash (another old school weapon). I was pleasantly surprised with the Stormlash's performance. I cleared Hell and even ran a couple Uber runs early on with it until I was able to acquire the runes to make Grief. I've since traded away that Stormlash  but I think I will have fond memories. So I guess my advice would be to try out that Schaefer's Hammer. If anything, you'll gain a new appreciation for playing without godly runes.
Good luck.
