Green with Envy II Tournament

Re: Green with Envy II Tournament

1) Despite the revisal of the merc weapon rule, does the original merc re-hire rule still apply in its entirety?

yes it does

The follow-up questions to 1) (1.1 and 1.2) only apply if the answer to 1) is not a clear yes, otherwise please skip them:
1.1) For example: On Normal difficulty, I have an Act 1 merc, then I re-hire an Act 2 merc, still on Normal, but I do not have a suitable weapon for him, does the re-hired merc have to remain weaponless throughout Normal, even if later on on Normal I find a suitable weapons for him?

The rule change says that if you find 3 set weapons and none of them satisfy the merc (they cant use it), then the merc must go weaponless for the TIME BEING!!!

Once you find a set weapon, you may equip it straight away regardless if its normal, nightmare or hell.

1.2) Due to the revisal of the merc weapon rule, is it allowed to swap merc at will, from any difficulty and Act, and freely equip him/her with a set weapon, as long as he/she is equipped with a set item, unless of course he/she cannot equip any of the set weapons found so far due to requirements?

If you find a set weapon that your merc can use and the other 2 slots are occupied (primary and switch) then you must equip it straight away onto your merc. Or if your merc cannot equip it (to low level, str, dex requirements), then you must stash the weapon and the second your merc can equip it then place it on him/her. During this time your merc must remain weaponless, until of course you can equip the set weapon

2) Going by the rules, I assume that merc armor and helmet can be swapped between character and stash/inventory at will, as long as they are set items (and found by the same character in game of course). Is this correct?
Correct

2.1) Are weapons allowed to be switched in the same manner as suggested in 2)?

Yes

3) The following question assumes that weapons and armor are allowed to be switched around freely. In case I already have 3 or more set weapons or 2 or more set helmets (at least one for each slot), can I take priority for my character over my merc when choosing a piece of equipment, even if it means that the merc would have to go without an item for that slot due to requirements?
Yes thats correct.

(continuation to 3)) For example: I happen to have a high strength character, and I have 2 high strength requirement weapons which I can equip and the merc cannot due to the str requirement. But I also have 1 low strength requirement weapon, which the merc could equip. Could I equip the 1 low str req item in addition to 1 of the high str req items on my character, even though this would leave the mercenary weaponless for the time being?
Once you find your 3rd set weapon all 3 slots HAVE to be occupied (switch, primary and the merc). Hope that answers it :undecided:

4) Is Save&Exit to escape death allowed? If yes, this would mean having to potentially re-run an area, which is not allowed by the rules, would it still be ok?

I advice against save and exit. If you do so then you must run to a unexplored area and then you may begin to kill things. But you cannot when you run through an already explored area.

4.1) What about Save&Exit to re-roll monsters? For example if such immunities and modifiers spawn on some monsters that it absolutely makes it impossible to proceed without a Save&Exit or ten, Ancients comes to mind. Re-rolling the monsters/monsters' mods would mean potentially having to re-run an area.

I would only advice re-rolling ancients and nothing else. Otherwise you must do what i said in the above question.

4.1.1) If it is allowed to re-roll and because of that re-run an area if necessary, what is the threshold for allowing it? For example, is 10 packs of Extra Fast Conviction Aura Enchanted Burning Souls a reason enough to allow to re-roll? That would be a situation that is theoretically possible to pass through, but could be near impossible in practice with an untwinked character. Or would that practice be only limited to completely impossible to pass situation, like Ancients that cannot be hurt?

You can re-roll at your own will. However you must suffer having to run back to the unexplored area.

HOLY CRAP MY BRAIN IS FRIED!!!!

Re: Green with Envy II Tournament

Just wondering on the side note, do people usually clear all the Tal Rasha tombs in act 2 or just hit the one?

Re: Green with Envy II Tournament

I do full clears. So yes i clear all 7 tombs. Its really good for experience and i have found some really nice items in there. Also considering this is a single pass tournament, killing all monsters for that extra chance of finding an item and getting experience could be the difference between being alive or deeds.

Re: Green with Envy II Tournament

I also intend to do full clears when it comes to acts 2-5 (assuming I last that long). My character is at the Cold plains waypoint right now, but I haven't had time to sit down and do a full clear of Cold Planes + Blood Raven + Maloseum and Crypt and Cave and then stony fields (depending on how I find the WP) which may force me to do a lot. Friday I should have four or five hours to sit down and play, and I'll probably finish act 1 then. 16 gambles and no arctic furs.

(This is not actually an update. I'll probably write things once per act).

Re: Green with Envy II Tournament

Just wondering on the side note, do people usually clear all the Tal Rasha tombs in act 2 or just hit the one?

I find that my chance of dieing goes up dramatically with the time I spend in those tombs with a melee char, So I usually clear the one and then defeat Duriel.

Re: Green with Envy II Tournament

Found a couple more green items here and here. The ring turned out to be a Cathan's Seal.

After hiring an offensive merc and finding a 3os morning star Rebel headed out into the desert. Not much slowing her down yet, so far so good. Just need to find Duriel and it's off to act 3.

Re: Green with Envy II Tournament

I found the concept of this tourney interesting, but it sounded insanely hard without the benefit of 1 prepicked set that could be used as in the original, without ATMA to stash greens and without a merc wielding a weapon. However, issue 2 and 3 have been adressed, so why not?
Next, how to pick a build. LEt's see... What builds provide interesting info?
So far, I see only 2 builds with 1 char... NAmely the barbarian and the druid. Well, I have played sooo many barbarians I frankly am not up to the challenge of spending another game horking every body I find (allthough I have great fun horking, never you mind that!) So, to tred in the footsteps of this tourney creator, I will opt in with a druid. Mainly, a summoner with lycantrophy backup skills, and that backupskill is gonna be shockwave (provided I live that long).
I'll add myself to the table once I created him.

Re: Green with Envy II Tournament

Well, my necro is ready to enter the palace, which I guess makes my area claw viper temple level 2? I have spent 100k at elzix, so far without results. I'm starting to think that my later survivability depends on finding/gambling sigon's shield, which would allow me to go for the much desired max block.

Re: Green with Envy II Tournament

Morathi, thanks for the answers, and I'm sorry for frying your brain. Now afterwards I can see that I could have phrased some of the questions quite a lot more clearly, and for example I forgot to mention that I meant set weapons in the question "3)" in my previous message, but you probably guessed that's what I meant.

And, I'm afraid I still have couple of questions, I hope your brains won't get too fried.

1) Despite the revisal of the merc weapon rule, does the original merc re-hire rule still apply in its entirety?
With that question I meant to ask a more specific thing, I should have phrased it differently:

1) Now after the merc set weapon rule change, can the merc be switched freely just in order to accommodate a new set weapon found, which the current merc cannot equip due to requirements and the new merc could?

1.1) Example: I am in Act 2 and am using an Act 2 merc. I have only one set weapon so far which my character is using. Then I find my second set weapon which I put on my character's weapon switch. But the thing is that I would want to use the new set weapon I found on my character and give my old one to the merc, but the Act 2 merc I have cannot equip it while the Act 1 merc could. Could I go and hire an Act 1 merc just in order to be able to equip the old set weapon on her and that way make best use of it, instead of having that weapon sit on my weapon switch unused?

2) I understood that set items can be switched around between character, merc and stash/inventory freely as long as every slot is occupied by green, but my question is that can I also switch between white, grey and green items around on my character and merc freely, as long as all the green item types (gloves, helmet, armor etc.) I have are in use or in case a green item cannot be equipped, the corresponding green item type slot is empty?

2.1) Whatever the answer to 2) is, does it apply to both weapons and armor?

3) I have three set swords, one of them is different, and the other two are identical. My merc can only equip the one different one of them, while my character can use any of them. Can I choose to equip my character with the only one set weapon which my merc could use?

That would force to leave my merc's weapon slot empty for the time being. I would equip one of the two remaining swords on my character's weapon switch, and so the third sword would be left unused.

3.1) If answer to 3) is yes, can the same principle be applied to armor, for example if I have two helmets and my character could use either of them while my merc can only use one of them, can I choose to equip my character with the helmet my merc could use, thus forcing the merc go helmetless for the time being?

4) I'm using grey armors on both my character and merc. I find my first (or second) green armor, then replace the grey armor I have with it, but then for whatever reason I accidentally lose the green item for example by accidentally dropping or selling it. Can I replace the empty armor slot with a grey or white armor again, because at that point I would not have a green item for that slot any longer?

4.1) In other words: I have a green item for all of my item slots, then I accidentally manage to lose them all. Is "going to green" a one-way-ticket, as in should I now keep all the item slots empty until I find new set items to fill those slots again?

Re: Green with Envy II Tournament

Still lovin this despite a total lack of green items on my part. Seriously, full clears on p8 and every penny I have gambled looking for a set bow so I don't have to equip a non-bow weapon at any point (which of course would require me ever finding a set item! Ha!) and still nothing... oh well, at least I found a white stag bow with +1 to skills.

Re: Green with Envy II Tournament

Seems like a nice and challenging tournament.

Omg Denton interested in untwinked tourney? What happened? Earthquake in Finland?

Seriously, don't hesistate to join, just for fun .

(btw iirc in Green with envy I I had quite bad luck for greens, so I didn't have any troubles with rules :azn:)

Re: Green with Envy II Tournament

Heh, earthquake, maybe something like that did happen. ; D

And maybe there's further wisdom in the saying: "even monkeys fall from trees"; maybe it can do good for a monkey (me) to fall from a tree, experience the rough landing, then experience climbing back up. It can teach.

Symbolic pondering aside, maybe it'd be fun to try HC for a change, try how it feels to lose my HC virginity. Hehe, I used the words hardcore and virgin in the same context. *amusedly proud*

And as for the rules, usually I'd rather know and understand every possible aspect of the rules before jumping into something. I'm a nitpicking hardcore-virgin monkey.

I seem to averaging 1 set per act, for I found just one green during act 3. I got lucky with arctic gloves, so I get a nice 40% MF bonus along with 5 strength, and I get to get rid of that annoying knockback that I had previously. Lets hope that MF pays off.

I am currently sitting at the start of act4 after some major near deaths on Meph's level. Not Meph himself, but the mages before him. zero fire resist is taken its toll, and I am not sure if I will make it past act 4.

Goodluck to the rest of you.

Re: Green with Envy II Tournament

I have the honor to have first deeds in this tournament it seems.

RIP Albert, Paladin, The Barracks, level 17, -3 points

Got surrounded with a Death Clan boss pack in the Barracks about 1500 points short of level 18. The boss was cold enchanted. Even though I concentrated my attacks on the boss and consumed all my red potions from belt and inventory there was nothing to do.

Topi

P.S. I probably wont start a new character in this tournament, but one never knows.

Heyhey, I've decided to join also, this will be both my first tournament and 1st HC so should be interesting to say the least! Used to play D2 years and years ago only started playing as its the only game that will run on my laptop! anyway I'm going to start a Meteorb Sorc called MrsGreen if you could update the table next time, would be much appreciated! gl hf all

Re: Green with Envy II Tournament

ah, slight problem.. i have no option for HC, I'm using a non bnet cd key as i lost mine is this why? Can I still enter if i disqualify myself on death?

Re: Green with Envy II Tournament

You can, as per the rules. When you install the game, you have to finish the game (Normal difficulty only) once on Softcore to be able to start a hardcore character

Re: Green with Envy II Tournament

1) Now after the merc set weapon rule change, can the merc be switched freely just in order to accommodate a new set weapon found, which the current merc cannot equip due to requirements and the new merc could?

Yes you can do that.

Yeh that looks about right.

When you find a set item, you must replace it with the white/grey item that is in the current slot (armour, helm etc). If have not found a set item for a specific slot (ex. armour) then you may swap around white/grey armours at will, between your merc, inventory, shop etc. The same goes for set items provided that the slot that contained the set item, must be replaced by another set item (you cannot swap a set item in a specific slot for a white/ grey item, unless you are placing that item onto your merc).

2.1) Whatever the answer to 2) is, does it apply to both weapons and armor?

Yes

3) I have three set swords, one of them is different, and the other two are identical. My merc can only equip the one different one of them, while my character can use any of them. Can I choose to equip my character with the only one set weapon which my merc could use?

That would force to leave my merc's weapon slot empty for the time being. I would equip one of the two remaining swords on my character's weapon switch, and so the third sword would be left unused.

Once you find 3 set weapons all slots must be occupied (primary, switch and your merc). Just make sure you do that, then you may change/ swap set items between your primary, switch and merc freely.

3.1) If answer to 3) is yes, can the same principle be applied to armor, for example if I have two helmets and my character could use either of them while my merc can only use one of them, can I choose to equip my character with the helmet my merc could use, thus forcing the merc go helmetless for the time being?

The same applies to weapons. All the slots for armour/helm must be occupied before you can swap/switch them at will.

Ummmmmm, i guess so.

4.1) In other words: I have a green item for all of my item slots, then I accidentally manage to lose them all. Is "going to green" a one-way-ticket, as in should I now keep all the item slots empty until I find new set items to fill those slots again?

Well the chances for that are almost 0 to none, but if that does happen to you i guess i would allow you to use grey/white items until set items begin dropping.

Ok hope i answered ALL!!!! your questions.

Please no more?:undecided:

Re: Green with Envy II Tournament

One more green item just before fighting duriel, none in a3 so far.

Rebel Jen took down Duriel at p3. It took a while to find a decent weapon for my merc since I couldn't buy a weapon for him in a3. I found him a damaged pike and used the cube recipe to make it a normal pike, all the while still running at p8.
