Is World of warcraft anything like Diablo II?

I know the graphics are 3-d, but is item generation the same, with sets and uniques, and rares and so on?

As to itemisation a sort of yes; however, the loot charts are much more pre-determined and boss-stressed.

Other than that a resounding no.

Community forum is likely the better one for this question, though AfrikaEighteen's question seems honest enough.

EDIT: Dacar was way too fast for me.

It's a completely different animal, the only things that are shared with DII are a few names and things like that.

That standing, the basics of item design and typology are, in my opinion, strikingly similiar (huh, big surprise there).

He's firsthand hunch wasn't all that wrong on items. Just that everything else is different.

From what I heard there's quite a few things that are obviously taken straight from D2, but retooled a lot.

well...I finally bought WOW last night, started playing it after 20 minutes got bored and loaded Diablo II and found a HEL and a FAL within five minutes in The Pit!

Played that game, got 200 days /played under my belt before I finally quit (for good, heh). Its nothing like Diablo 2. If you want a way to waste your life, its the perfect game for it though. I'm sure there are people now with over 300-350+ days /played. Imagine if they live to be 50, 2% of their life spent playing a single game.

Its a weird feeling, because it makes you work so hard to be among the top. I raided 6 days a week (didnt have a job, but some did actually) to be the best guild on the server. The feelings of working on a boss for weeks and finally downing him i'll never forget. I was a warrior, and tanking a dragon named Vaelastrasz for example back in the day when there were no real "strats" and finally downing him was insane. Hearing everyone on ventrillo cheer because of all the hard work that finally paid off, good feeling.

Then I went to grind rank, the RIGHT way (as in not sharing my account). Competing against people working in shifts for Rank 14 by playing 20 hours a day took its toll, and I got burned out, stopping at Rank 12. Yeah I said 20 hours a day, alone. It all hit me it wasnt worth it, so I stopped playing for about 6 months. Played expansion for a little while and noticed everything was all the same, just reflavored, new tier sets, new instances- but essentially the same thing. Get 70, do instances, and pvp for the flavor of the month tier or pvp gear. So I quit for good

And TheSatan lived happily ever after

I'm surprised you found yourself capable of stopping after 20 minutes. That game is incredibly addictive. That's the main reason they give some free trials, it's like a book you just can't quite put down.

Somehow, I managed - but just barely. I just couldn't bring myself to leave D2, it's my one true love.

In some ways it seems to reflect D2. But honestly the impression I got of it from my very short time there was that it seemed to have a lot in common with Neverwinter Nights. That was another addiction of mine, a while back.

I found it to be a lot like Guild Wars with a hint of Runescape, as far as gameplay goes. The only thing I could see how it was similar to Diablo is the variety on character classes and builds you could try. Of course, being able to choose the "good guys" or the "bad guys" is a neat feature within the game.

The first day I was able to play, I was on for nearly eight hours straight. That's something I haven't done since I was playing Diablo regularly. It didn't take long to figure out that I was supposed to do.

One of the other things I noticed, is that with Guild Wars it's hard to play solo for most of the quests, where with World of Warcraft you can play solo easily, or you can form groups to do it. I've been playing solo mostly, being partied with someone once.

Now that I can play Diablo again (stupid firewall thingy), I may not be on World of Warcraft as much. We'll have to wait and see, only time will tell. :hide:

Nope they're VERY different.

Diablo is a fast-paced Action RPG.

WoW is a pure RPG, often slow and requires thinking. :wink3:

Diablo fans will be Bored to death by WoW. Just because how slow it is. Not that WoW is a bad game, it just ..........

Nope, if you're a person like me.

That has played MMORPG in number over two digit.

You will find WoW to be just the same as every other MMORPG on the market.

People do get tired of MMORPG after you played too many. (2 yrs in EQ. Good times. :undecided: )

Diablo requires a bit of thinking as well, and both can be either fast paced or slow. It depends on your playing style and what you are doing at that time. The only difference as far as that goes is that you can do a lot in Diablo in a short time, whereas you need slightly more time to do any sort of organized gameplay in Wow. But that doesn't mean it is any slower paced than Diablo.

Also, double posting is frowned upon here as you can edit a post upto an hour after it was made. :wink3:

Spending hours to walk from one place to another.

Taking a whole minute to kill a single monster.

I dunno about you, but those sound VERY slow-fast to me, compare to Diablo's killing 10 monster in a second.
