yet another grief in zerk or PB debate

I checked previous posts and people tend to say grief is best in PB..

check this out:

number on the left is max dmg with a +340 grief
number on the right is max dmg with a +400 grief

Berserker Axe 411 471

Phase blade is pretty low on the list, in fact a sucky grief in zerk can almost do as much dmg as a perfect grief in PB... Someone plz remind me, is it better to go with a zerk if you can afford to make up for loss of IAS cauz I plan on getting highlords ammy so there's your 20% IAS :scratch:

Plus I dont care about repairs and looks, I'm very dmg oriented..

Firstly, is this PvP or PvM.

PvM: Phase for speed (without sacrifice to gear), no repair
PvP: Zerker for range which is VERY important in smite/smite duels, etc. You can still hit 4fps (or 6) smite with zerker with some minimal change to gear.

You need more than just 20 IAS to make up for it, as far as I know. Also, you should look at average damage instead of the max damage. The max damage by itself means almost nothing. In that aspect, the average zerker does 14.5 more damage than a PB. It's not worth going after a zerker unless you want its range.

For pvm, grief has absolutely no disadvantages. Period. For pvp now,range matters alot vs barbs,whether you are zealing or smiting them.

iirc its 30% ias because zerker base speed is 0 while phase is -30

Base speed and IAS works differently. It's certainly more than 30.

If it is for PvM, make it in a Phase Blade. It is much faster, freeing up the need for off-weapon IAS, and indestructible. A normal Zerker has durability of 26, which will go down very fast. Reparing your weapon often is annoying. And besides, the majority of your damage will be coming from the +3XX-400 damage, not the weapon damage.

A Zerker need 60% IAS to reach 4 fpa with lvl 20 fana/zeal.

wait i think someone mentioned in another thread that it was 55% or something like that. So I'm wondering this too....all in all what weapon is better in pvp the grief pb or the grief zerker?

A good smiter can do well with a phase anyways. I personally don't find the range that much. But if enemy has slow gears then phase really pays off since it still allows for max smite speed.

Grief PB is best for PvM for the reasons listed above

Greif Zerker is best for PvP because it has a longer range, which is very advantageous against other smiters and ww barbs. Also, it has way less requirements then a PB, max block is in the low 110's dex range at lvl 75. thats 20+ points saved that can then go into vita. To hit max IAS with a zerker and a 35% fanat aura is 10% IAS off weapon. That assumes the worst greif roll ever of only 30 WIAS. All the tables for information on smite can be found at http://www.purediablo.com/characters/paladin/ias-smite.shtml . Just make sure that base weapon speed includes WIAS.

in a pb, 20 fana and any ias grief reaches max speeds for zeal and smite. no other gear necessary.

if you have ever used a regular zerk, it needs repair every 5 minutes. its annoying as hell and not worth the 1 range. the damage difference is not much, either, since grief will be giving most of the damage anyways

How do you define a good smiter not needing range to win?

I actually have both a +397 grief PB and a +399 grief zerk but I use PB so I don't have to repair.

I made my first grief PB yesterday and I was happy with the dmg (+393) but the IAS came out as 30% (lol). But as I read these posts, even with a lousy 30% IAS I can still reach max speed with a lvl 20 fana? In other words, when buying a grief PB for you (not to trade afterwards) you should ONLY check +dmg and to an extent -psn%. Is this right
