wtf is this lag

So im wondering whats the deal with the lag lately ??? Seems about every 30 seconds or so the game locks up and then when it resumes its in fast forward mode . Funnny thing is my ping is usually around 125 or so when this happens . Its very annoying and just wondering if its dupers or just something going on in the bnet realms ...
 
Not dupers as far as I know. Last I heard it was just another anti-botting measure taken with this patch. Sometimes it happens every thirty seconds, other times it doesn't happen for days it seems. It's not all that dangerous if you know what's happening since it's server side and you're not going to all of a sudden snap out of it and find your character dead, i.e. when the game speeds back up so does your character.
 
I'm getting a similar experience except my ping shoots up to thousands for a few seconds and its a recurring thing. If I'm around monsters I exit every time which is a real pain. Am I to understand from Phats reply that there is no need to exit-little more explanation would be helpful.
 
Well from my experience, if I start running or teleporting away before everything speeds up, I escape when everything speeds up. Your safest bet is to save/exit though.
 
hrm, i think i'm qualified answer this question, since i usually teleport.

if the game just stops, and your character is somewhat stable (meaning cannot be 1 hit killed) then you're safe. the game stops, then speeds up REAL QUICKLY~, and you still have time to hit the juv (albeit we are talkin about a time frame of <1 sec). i havent actually had the "invis-char" problem in quite a while, and by quite a while i mean at least 6 months my playing time, and by that i mean a whole year).

it really isn't all that bad if you're quick to juv. my (i think) 2nd sin died this way this season because i had no idea what was goin on. but meh, havent lost a char to it after that.
 
So basically, when it happens, everything "pauses" (meaning while your character is sitting there, doing nothing you tell him too, the monsters are also just chillin, and not actually attacking you), but when it unfreezes, everything that was happening "pre lag", is going to all hit you at once, so if you cant be 1hit KOed, you're probably gonna be ok?

In other words, when this happens, I can expect to take a pretty large hit when it all unlags, but its not like I'll be taking damage the entire time?

It seems like the sped-up period is directly proportional to the frozen period, i.e. everything that was about to happen in the [x] seconds that everything was frozen will happen in about [x/4] seconds when the server kicks back in. If it looks like you were about to take a decent amount of damage and the server freezes for quite a few seconds, like if you can only take 2 or 3 hits from Meph and the game freezes for, say, 4 seconds, you're probably better off just exiting the game and re-entering.
 
I havent been on since last night, but the lag was particularly bad last night... i was doing 7/8 person baal runs and it happed atleast 6 times while we were fighing minions, i would just back off and not leave, i probbably should have.... once of the times there was a level 75 barb tanking for us and he ended up dying with no loot on.... sucks..

im on HCL now with my new acct btw on west, /w *xperii if you wanna game sometime.

This would explain why the time I just kept trying to teleport through the entire 'freeze period' got me realm downed...
 
I was starting to think it was just my modem freaking out . Tonight at about 10 pm my connection to the internet crapped out and I lost all internet connectivity . Im gonna go hop on someones desk at Comcast in the morning and demand a new modem ...
 
Well I found out this morning that my modem was indeed fried . The Comcast dood came and hooked a new modem up and it was just peachy clean T-1 speed all day . Until tonight - around 10:15 my connection was again turned to crap and I was hitting 4k pings in game . Got so bad that I finally disconnected and couldnt log back on . My cable lights went out for good at 11pm and I had to get ready to go to work . Bleh , Hiss, Grrrr - wtf do I gottta do to get COMCAST to fix this shiznat !!! Every freaking night around 10 - 10:30 my connection bunks out and makes it unplayable .. This will be the 4th time Iv'e called them since Saturday !!

The Lag

I've encountered it also. When it happens I can do as I please, as long as it doesn't mean interacting with anything else. Then when the game kicks back in, I am "teleported" (for lack of a better word) to my original spot

Interestingly enough, when it happens with my Freezealot paladin while I'm surrounded by a few monsters, I usualy don't notice right away, so I've already clicked on the monsters a few times before I notice. Of course, 3 clicks on Zeal means 15 hits. So its not enough clicks to get me kicked, and then given a realm down message. But once the game unfreezes my pally unloads his 15 hits or so at about .0001 fps speed, the monsters all die very quickly, and any damage I took gets leeched back very quickly.

Its a bit more scary when I'm standing next to Mephy or someone big though. In that case I usualy press 1,2,3,4 and then flux. Most of the time though, the potions don't usualy even get used. When I re-enter the game, my health is still full, and the potions remain, I was never in any real danger. Its still uber scary though!

I just had a virus that kept disconnecting me every 10-15 seconds-not like your issue but can it be a virus?

I do have the same lag issue as mentioned here but it doesn't disconnect me just the lag and speed up scenario.
 
Last night I was running Andy. She dropped a unique amulet, which turned out to be Nokozan (to replace the one I lost on my trapper!) and a small charm, which turned out to be +19 life. Then all of a sudden, I get a connection lost. I get kicked back into channel, make a new game.

Poof.

No more ammy or charm.
 
Tell them someone is stealing all your internet and that they should unlock some extra speed foryou or ull drop em! Companies usually give in because losing a customer is bad! Their whole goal is to suck you in for life so tell them your dropping them and you'll get at least some free internet for a month ;)
 
Well it seems all is NOT well as far as my cable goes . Fookers came to my house Monday and gave me a new modem which worked fine until Monday night . Cable went out but I had to go to work anyways so no biggy . Got home Tuesday morning , power cycled it , and bingo back in operation . Worked fine all day and night and life was good . Got home Wednesday morning and my fooking cables out again !! Power cycled it and NOTHING happens . Cables out all day now and the earliest they can get someone back out to me is the 16th of December . Thats just freaking wrong !! That means no email , no Porn , no D2 for a freaking week unless this **** miraculously comes back on which it probably will and then go out again ..

COMCAST JOO BASTARDS !!!!

I say we start a Non-Profit Organization just for such an instance.
We'll gather all Teh Pron we can get our grubby little hands on and keep it in a safe location, then when someone's cable goes down, we can send them Pron bundles every hour on the hour.
