Wireless keyboards/mice and D2

I'm considering a wireless mouse and maybe keyboard. My last attempt at wireless and D2 was a resounding failure.

Have any of you guys/gals had any experience with wireless and D2; good bad or ugly? Any recommendations as to brands would be great too.

Alternatively I need a mouse with at least 2m cable which isn't too thick and restricts mouse movement. (Cord currently tucked under keyboard causing pull issues.)

(If it makes a difference I have two machines set up side by side, the second one isn't likely to go wireless though.)

I use a $10 wired keyboard after spilling water on two ~$100 keyboards, but I love my Logitech MX 1000 mouse. I would definitely recommend that you get a laser mouse. The battery on this one still lasts all day after about 2 years.

My past 6 mice have been logitech, I recommend them. 5 are still in use, and the oldest is about 4 years old.

What was your problem with wireless mice? I have heard they are slower on reaction, but I never noticed. However, with my pretty meager amount of skills that observation counts for little.

I use a Logitech MX Revolution wireless on my laptop, a Logitech Mouseman Optical Wireless with corresponding wireless keyboard was used for my desktop until it moved to the laptop-for-c64-games under the TV, and a Logitech RX300 for my desktop now. I have no problems with either. Lady Bug has an original Logitech Wingman that is some seven years old, but it has recently become a bit sluggish.

Of these, I think the cordless Mouseman is the best for gaming ergonomics, but the Revolution is an all-round fantastic mouse. I haven't tried a specific gaming mouse, as I have not felt the need.

I have worn out a Microsoft Intellimouse and a Logitech iFeel Wingman, LMB failing. Neither of these gets my vote for above reason. I have also (shortly) tried a Trust something optical, and a very cheap Logitech. Neither had optical sensors of sufficient quality, so I had to ditch them.

I've been running completely wireless since 2003, modern sets are so much better than they used to be. I don't like Microsoft's wireless setups, but I've never had a problem with Logitech.

i have a logitech mx ??? cordless on my laptop and was very good at playing d2 and other games.
about keyboards i don't know now i have a cheap one ( 10 $) still with ps2 cable.
i like to eat before my computer so a costly keyboard is a no no for me.

I use a wireless mouse... and would love to "upgrade" to a wireless keyboard, but I'm broke... so it's unlikely to happen. But I know that my wireless mouse seems to work just fine.

Also, that Synergy thing looks freaking awesome.

lol - the same reason why my keyboards are around 10$, too :) Reminds me: I have to disassemble mine - it could probably feed an army with the crumbs embedded in it...

About wireless: I only had one once, and that was back in 2000/2001. Its batteries emptied so fast that I am still afraid even now of using one again...imagine bumping into an extra fast fana blood lord pack and *woot* your mouse connectin is interrupted...yeah, a bit paranoid, I know, but how goes the saying? "Once burnt, twice shy".

Although what you guys said could lure me bayk to wireless...2 years, you say, SnickerSnack? What's the experience concerning the life span of a wireless mouse's batteries?

I use an older wireless mouse that uses plain old AA's (I like the weight).

I use the rechargeable NiMH type - with HEAVY use - they last two weeks.

Keyboard last months, regardless of use - so even if the mouse goes out it's still possible to escape and pause :)

I use wireless (Bluetooth) keyboard, and love it. Batteries seem to last a good amount (over a month I would say). I did use the wireless mouse, but accidentally threw the battery pack away. I tried rechargable batteries, but the mouse charger station wasn't designed for those kind of rechargable batteries, so I'm using normal corded mouse now. Both are Logitech.

I played D2 on a wireless mouse for several years and switched back to wired only after the wireless mouse died. YMMV.
 
I have a wireless Microsoft mouse model ?? (not in front of my PC). No problems at all with it. I had to switch for the same reason, my cord kept getting stuck and when it killed off two characters due to not being able to move I decided a change was needed. The batteries last for a couple months of average use. I do get a warning when their life is running low, so they don't die suddenly on me. Very helpful in HC play.

I briefly tried a wireless mouse and hated it, because of the added weight of batteries. Like you I have 2 systems side-by-side. I use a KVM switch (2 CPUs sharing one monitor, keyboard, and mouse). Pushing a button instantly switches to the other system. To create lots of free slack I used a USB extension cable. Where the mouse plug meets the extension, I fastened it behind my desk. Now I have plenty of thin slack for using the mouse, which never gets stuck on anything. The coiled loose cord is not pretty but that's a small price to pay for lightweight snagless performance.

If you consider a KVM option, note that some wireless mice will not play nicely with it.

I've always just stayed with a wired mouse mainly because I do alot of LAN gaming and there have been so many times when a friend finds he has no batteries only 3 hours into it and then we tear apart whoever's house looking for batteries...

I have used a microsoft brand wireless mouse for a couple years. The biggest hazzard about it is finding it in the kids toyboxes. Batteries seem to last quite a while in mine. I have never used a wireless keyboard though. So no advice on that. I say go for the wireless.

I've only tried one wireless setup before, but it didn't take. Everything felt too big and bulky. But that's being said after using a laptop for years. But even my work computer's hard-wired keyboard feels smaller than the wireless one I have.

I'm old-skool, I suppose. I've never enjoyed wireless controllers for gaming systems, either; seems that if a cord can't get tangled, snagged, twisted, chewed through, or able to be stepped on ripping the device out of my hands, I'm not a happy gamer. :scratchchin:

I'm absolutely loving my logitech wireless keys and mouse setup for work and general web surfing. However, playing D2 with my MX Revolution is an 'effin pain. Constant lag issues, makes gameplay very frustrating. I still don't know what's the cause of this, since it works perfectly otherwise...

Thanks for everyone's comments and advice.

The problem I had before were:
1) Painful installation
2) Losing signal a LOT
3) Far too sensitive for my dodgy reactions
4) Wouldn't work with D2 *at all*

I've grabbed a cheapie LX8 from Logitech. Which installed effortlessly. I have to say Logitech are second only to Netgear for idiot-proof installation. I have downloaded their SetPoint thing but it was working fine with the default USB plug and play.

I am finding the mouse movement quite sensitive. Yes, I have turned the sensitivity down - quite a bit - guess my reactions are just dodgy. :D So it will be some practice required before I risk Atil in the WSK.

Taking the point regards food and keyboards - I think I'll leave that be. Maybe with the mouse cord out of the way, I'll get a bit more slack on the keyboard anyway.

ooh ooh ooh I forgot to say; uninstall setpoint.

It doesn't add anything and only increases the chance of problem.

There is one specific reason for using Logitech drivers on their mice: You can assign a mouse button to middle mouse button outside games. Very handy if you are using *nix ported applications. If you don't need a middle button, windows drivers work perfectly.

Since keyboards are pretty stationary, I fail to see the point about having them wireless. I miss my old Honeywell, but it could not handle USB (It was on DIN connector. I used it for ten years)

@Starving Poet below: I stand corrected. It used to not work, so I haven't tried for ages. But reading your post, I found out you where correct.
