Why vampgaze over Tal Mask for merc??

Why vampgaze over Tal Mask for merc??

Whenever you read posts on how to let your merc live, why does everyone suggest Vamp Gaze, over something like Tal Rasha mask. Maybe I'm missing something, but isn't TR mask have better stats for a merc?



Vamp Gaze-
+100 Enhanced Defense
+6-22 Cold Damage
15% Stamina Drain
6-8% Life and Mana leech
Damage reduced by 15-20%


Alright, this is good. Has Life leech, and ED. It also has a low level req of 41



Tal Rasha Mask-
10% Life Leech
10% Mana Leech
All resistances +15
+45 Defense
+30 to Mana
+60 to life


This has life leech, +resists, +defense and +life.


Overall, I think the Tal's mask is the better choice. It has higher life leech, and gives +life and +resists. Maybe if Tals mask was expensive and rare, but its not at all. Someone care to enlighten me?

The damage reduced by 15-20% is what people look at. It's easier to get high elemental resists than physical resist. I personally don't care much either way.

True, mercenaries get lots of resist at higher levels even without any equip. This means they survive somewhat good from elemental attacks as long as they have leech.

I have a tals mask, I would like a vamp gaze on my merc, but I haven't been able to trade for one (people don't like trading em) and I'm still pretty poor. A hell bovine was nice enough to drop a tals mask for me though.

Vamp gaze has also this straight MDR which isn't to shabby either.

Rockstopper is also a good choice if you're looking for something cheap. 10% dr and lots of resists.

And low level requirement. That also counts.

I also love Guillaume's Face (did I spell that right?) for CB/DS and strength (making him carry bigger weapons earlier).

A PAmethyst Guillaume's Face and a 3xPAmethyst Griswold's Heart is +75 to str. BTW....
