Which Runeword Weapon should I use to equip my Act2 Merc?

Obedience is definitely the one for your merc if you don't have mana issues.

Compare the previous ethereal to this one though. Ethereal is so much better.

This is pretty cool too, especially when it's powering an Energy Shield. Obediance looks like the better of the two for your particular character, though.

I would tend to favor Bonehew, Hone Sundan, or Kelpie Snare over either of those runewords.

I tend to look for IAS, leech, and and/or a nice chance-to-cast effect on my merc weapons.

Reaper's of course is teh Uber, as has already been said.

I'm not particularly thrilled with any of the runewords as they relate to end-game merc weapons, except for the really expensive ones that grant auras (and I'll never have in a million years). :jig:

Obedience and/or Insight are certainly viable but don't lend themselves to keeping your merc alive like these other items.

I think if you don't need mana you would go Obediance. Its still not perfect -I think an Act 2 Merc must have life leech. Vampire Gaze or Tals does the trick but I really like Guillame's face (although its not perhaps needed with obediance).

Currnetly I like Reapers Toll, Shaftstop and Guillames Face (especially upped etheral Shaftstop) with a couple of rare jewels for added resistances for any non Necro build. Its excellent for any melee character or mmissle user. My meteororb had the same set up and didn't seem to need any more mana either.

An upped etheral Hone Sudan would be my weapon of choice for a Necro (but I have never found one!).

For cheap but good Strength made in an etheral weapon is pretty cool - I like these a lot and have a normal exceptional and elite version which I upgrade through from level 25 until switching over to Reapers.

Hmm, ok!
But can you PLEASE tell me how I can find all this stuff you mention?
Cause until now everyone seems to drop the cream of the crap, even 1st kill Bosses. NM Baal dropped 2 crappy rares when I killed him for the 1st time.

Get your character to the end of hell act 3, and kill Mephisto over and over again until you get the items you want

Bingo. NM meph's drops are often the cream of the crop for new characters (and those who go untwinked). That, and gambling often get you some of the best gear.

Other options abound: Better than rares is crafting, which rolls from some pre-set mods, and then rolls a rare around it. The stuff can get very good.

And if I ever go RWM, I'll remake my energy shield sorc and be sure to make a sweet Insight polearm for her. She could be unstoppable.

For Strength you just need Amn and Tir and a 2 socket weapon if you pick up all runes you should have no trouble finding them or cubing up to them. The wepon damage is not the most important factor its the crushing blow from the rune word which does the damage and the life leech which keeps your merc alive.

Look at every grey pike, lance or better that drops and see if it has two sockets - if its etheral so much the better. Strength in an elite weapon could take your Merc through hell at a low players setting.

Hone Sudan and Kelpie Snare are both end game Merc wepons - more so if you can get a pul rune from the forge and up them - socket them with an Amn for life leech or (for the Hone 1x shael or 2x amn or 2x shael or 1x amn depending on your preference) which as people say can be got from NM Meph as can Shaft stop and Guillame's I believe - you'll need to kill Meph a number of times - someone can probably calculate it but try 50-100 times and see what you get!

Reapers is great but rare to me at least - I have two and have done a fair amount of magic finding with my Necro who has lots of MF - basically don't expect to find one soon (and maybe you'll be lucky!).
