Where to find shako???

Hell Meph has the highest chances: 0.13% with 300%MF (according to ATMA), which means you have to do ln(0.5)/ln(1-0.0013)=533 Meph runs for a 50% chance to find a shako - if you have 300% MF.

actually hell meph has the highest chance on the quest drop. The best chances would be hell andy wit the drop bug b/c u'll get a quest drop each time.

i never run mepho

i found most of mine while questing
last one was from some archer in the area outside a5 town

hell mephy would be the best target though

I just found one killing Baal. In fact it was the only thing he dropped besides some gold.

Another funny thing I found with Baal is with 0 MF He has dropped GF, WF and 2xTals Armor for me. Yet when I stack the MF I get garbage. Go Figure.

Doesnt Nm baal and Nm pindle have good chances to drop shako i heard they had better chances, but i dont know if thats correct at all.

Hell Meph has a higher chance on the quest drop than on his regular drop, of course, but as there is no Meph quest drop bug, that's not really useful information. Nobody rushes characters to exploit it :)

IMO it pays off more to do Meph runs instead of Andariel runs, even with the quest drop bug. You can reach Durance 3 much faster than Catacombs 4 (perhaps doing 1.5-2 Meph runs in the same time as an Andy run), it gives you more XP and uniques of a higher TC and qlvl (which isn't increased in the quest drop), the vampire bosses can drop any unique in the game (Meph, their boss, can't  ) in case you want to bother with them and IMO it's safer as well because you can use the moat trick.

NM Baal is the #6 dropper for shakos (when ignoring quest drops except for Andy), better than regular hell Andy and Duriel and just a little worse than the other hell bosses. Super-uniques like Pindle drop far too few uniques and set items to compare with an act boss. In NM, only Baal himself (1 in 1,000), the bosses of the Baal waves (1 in 45,000), WSK and Throne bosses (1 in 17,000) and their minions (1 in 700,000) can drop a shako at all - WSK/Throne champions can't.

The numbers are for a character with 300%MF and as usual, all information comes from ATMA's drop calculator.

the problem for me is that i dont have a cold sorc. I only have a mf fire sorc and a light sorc for countess runs. Anyway, hell meph for me is a lot harder wit a fire sorc and all my resists are below 0 in hell so the council members in between are annoying and when meph casts blizzard, im dead.

A fire sorc is just perfect for Meph. Cold sorcs can't hurt the vampires or cold-immune council bosses, so they have to abort from time to time.

Some suggestions to improve your fire sorc:

Get a Rising Sun amulet. Its absorb is invaluable if you have low resistances and it has +2 to fire skills as well. The councils' hydras and the vampires' meteors will actually heal you, the firewalls have no effect and only the fireballs will hurt a little. Later when you can afford it you can switch to the Tal Rasha set or just armor, belt and amulet. The complete set will give you maximum resistances while a setup involving armor, belt and ammy together with shako and Occy will need a few res charms.

You can kill Meph with nearly no risk if you apply the moat-trick. Teleport to the lower left of the level, then up without coming too near to the entrance of the room to the left until you are at the upper part of the moat. Ignore any vampires you encounter. You might have stirred up some vampires farther below, so wait 3 seconds to let them settle again and/or go back to their bosses. Go/teleport back to the lower right to the firepot, so you can barely see the stairs beyond the moat to the upper left. The stairs are the place where you will lure Meph to. If the council pack attacks you while you are standing there, go a step to the upper left (the lightning enchantment of the boss will nearly never hit you then) and kill them. Your Rising Sun amulet completely protects you from the hydras. Sometimes you get attacked by vampires. Care about them first, as they can become dangerous.

Then teleport across the moat to the upper left and lure Meph to the mentioned stairs at the moat. Running to the circle inlay on the floor and back is enough. If he gets stuck, run a little around and keep moving if he starts casting spells or if you trigger evil forces. Exception: Don't move, but teleport if he casts Blizzard. Teleport back across the moat and place your sorc next to the upper fire pot, so you can barely see him. He will try to approach instead of casting spells, but he is too stupid to run through the room left of him, so you can safely kill him e.g. with meteors.

The moat trick only works well if you have no merc, as he will stir up vampires or the council to the left or come too near to Meph which will make him cast his spells, so get him killed before you start Meph runs.

I found my first and only shako in the cold plains while taking a break from pit runs. Unfortunately, it was the very day before ladder 1 ended and ladder 2 started so it didn't get much use. I was using a bowazon with maybe 100 mf total.

The key is not to look for anything and all things are possible. 13 mf from Tal's belt landed me a grandfather sword and gris armor in two consecutive pit runs last ladder. But can I find a windforce or even a buriza? Noooooo way.

Just found myself a shako just about 2 hours ago. Did Diablo quest in Hell with a barb. I have about 100 mf and right when diablo died the game kind froze and then when it continued there it was.
A unique Shako lying in a pile of rare items. Lucky for me the game froze for the barb to so he was standing outside the star where diablo spawned.
It's funny how you find items that you weren't even thinking of
My first shako I got from a guy who desperatly needed Angelic Wings :P

tal set gives full resists? wow didnt know that. too late now. worked very hard to get this gear since this sorc is my first ladder 2 char.

ptopazed shako. (btw i have 3 shakos. one has 99 defense, another has 100 defense and the third has 120 something defense... sucks so much lol)
ptopazed skullders'
occy
p diamond liddless
40% chancies
2 30% nagels
goldwrap
waterwalks
mahim oak amy (need this for +10 attributes so i can wear skullders)

as u can see, tal set is sort of out of my range now. :)

o well

What I do for Hell Meph is actually something I never see anyone talk about ever. I use a Gerke's Sanctuary. It has 16 physical absorb and 18 magical. With 2 nagel rings (3 magic absorb each) and tal's armor (15 absorb) that's 37 magic absorb which is enough that hydras can't do damage to you. All you have to do is give up magic find on your shield unless you Ist it and shields are usualy the worst source of mf anyways (for major pieces of gear). This leaves your ammy slot free for the partial tal's set which I preffer for magic finding.

Once in durance 3, I just teleport up the right side, just past the moat and run to the left side of the portal next to the moat then teleport down when meph is close enough. You'll never even see a dark lord, doing this. If the Council is in that middle strip, you can stand a step to the left so they can't directly hit you and ignore their hydras. If they aren't in the middle strip, just switch out for your shield of choice. 1/100 runs, the council member in the left side room will be out of his room and you'll have to deal with him. But, that's it.

This works with a Gerke's/Skullder's/Nagels setup, too. But, then you don't really need the ammy slot for the partial tal's set.

This clearly doesn't work right if you don't have some way to teleport but even poor non sorcs should be able to get their hands on a cheap item with tele charges. You have to tele just 5 times max each run. Once directly up so you don't have to go through the first door. Maybe once if you want to get past the council pack if it's on the right side. Once to get over the moat, once to get back and once to pick up items if Meph was a good little demon.

i dont think there is any specific place you can find shako. ive found shakos on all act bosses save duriel in hell. most commonly on meph and andy. but ive also found them on nm baal, hell minibosses on way to throne in baal, and even cows. so just keep playing its all in the luck of the draw. do many andy and meph runs tho your bound to find one eventually

Must be in the same game you kill her for the quest in order to get the bug working correctly.

I actually found a Shako off Hell Andariel last night, but the stupid thing was ethereal. What's the chance for ethereal, 1/20? So I was "extra" lucky?! Psssh. :grrr:

Excellent merc helm.

Heh, thats the same thing that happened to me, except I gave mine away because it is a shitty merc weapon unless your dealing with an act 3 merc

I trhink the best advice I've seen here was NOT to look for it. Focus on a cracked sash or something and you'll get the shako, then again maybe not.

I have only found one and that was in act II and I was goofing off looking for the underground area. Don't remember what dropped it (it was so long ago), but I had liker 400 mf. Not sure that makes a lot of difference, I think it's still mostly luck.

WTF? All I freaking find is shakos, occy and skullders ires! Seriously, I've found like 12 shakos now! I'm at the point when I see an occy or shako drop I think, "Oh that's just junk..." While everyone else is killing themselves trying to get to it! I haven't found that 3 socket tomb reaver I've been dying to get for my polebarb yet, heck I haven't even found a single tomb reaver yet. :(
