Vanilla or modded gameplay?

Hey, so I'm thinking of starting some singel player seriously. I've just been thinkin', vanilla or modded?

What do you prefer and why? I guess vanilla would be more like playing the game the way it was intended, and modded would make it more like battle.net without laggZ.

So I repeat, what do you prefer and why?

:girly:

Re: Vanilla or modded gameplay?

I started out Vanilla, but wanted to MP/trade with the majority, so I became RRM/RWM

I would go RRM/RWM, but ultimately it's your choice

Re: Vanilla or modded gameplay?

Hi,

Why don´t you try them both? Start a Vanilla char and only mule away stuff. Use the stuff on moded chars!

/mlo

Re: Vanilla or modded gameplay?

I play modded. Insight is too sweet to pass up. So is seeing all the runes in red.

Re: Vanilla or modded gameplay?

I lasted as 1.11 vanilla for about 2 months. Insight and Spirit were too tempting for me. Duress is a close third. You can make successful characters, but those three runewords are pretty tough to pass up.

EDIT: Corrupted is correct--Duress was added in 1.11. I have the dumb.

RWM isn't needed for Duress.

Re: Vanilla or modded gameplay?

Ask youself these 3 questions?

Would you like to actively trade for items you think you need?

Do you wish to MP often?

Do you really want to play without the likes of insight and spirit etc., the oh so cheap yet oh so powerful goodies?

If you answered yes to the questions, you should definitely play RRM/RWM. If you answered no, go ahead with Vanilla.
You can still do the first two with Vanilla, you just wont have as many opportunities.

Keep in mind that you can play vanilla, yet still be considered RRM/RWM tainted for trading purposes (as in all your items will be RRM/RWM, even if you don't have them installed.) And don't forget, as mentioned, that you can always change to RRM/RWM from vanilla, but you can never go from RRM/RWM to vanilla,

Re: Vanilla or modded gameplay?

vanilla all the way! (spirit just looks so dam unstrict, i mean... ral? thul??, what good runeword goes that low?)

Re: Vanilla or modded gameplay?

Modded for me, thanks. I'm the sort of person who wants any possible adavantage I can get. Having a bigger runeword pool, spotting runes easier and having more trading partners are all advantages.

Personally I don't see any reason to not use the mods, to be honest.

Re: Vanilla or modded gameplay?

I play modded for only one reason:

Because Blizzard made a horrible decision to not include them for Single Player. Why do those cheating, hacking, duping, PKing, griefing, spamming morons on b.net get them, but the community that wants to keep away from all that idiotic stuff gets the shaft? There was no good reason to keep those runewords out of SP. Playing modded is me giving an obscene gesture toward Blizzard.

Oh, and I like the RRM because I hate to miss out on all the El's and Tir's I so desperately need. :D

Re: Vanilla or modded gameplay?

Thanks for all the replies guys!!

I'm having a hard time deciding.. I kinda like the thought of being a vanilla-badass. :scratchchin: I'll think about it til tomorrow!

Re: Vanilla or modded gameplay?

I play Vanilla, but I play self-found so the trade issue isn't a concern. Perhaps someday when I've run out of builds I want to try (right!) I'll convert to RWM, but by then Blizzard will be on patch 1.13z which enables them, perhaps!

Re: Vanilla or modded gameplay?

I play unmodded as well, although I have contemplated going modded, and when (if) I start finding ohms and bers on the daily I might, until then I will stay Vanilla. It is more difficult w/o some of the really amazing low lvl RWs.
However, if you are going to go all out and be an 'active' member of this forum, ie trade, play MP etc I suggest you go modded - it seems to be the dominant choice. As someone mentioned earlier though, it is a lot easier going from Vanilla -> to modded so maybe start Vanilla? In all honesty, it takes a while before making Doom & Grief becomes an issue

Re: Vanilla or modded gameplay?

I've decided to go with HC vanilla self-found (with ATMA). Thanks much for the replies!

Re: Vanilla or modded gameplay?

Your decision. I started vanilla and installed the mods when I felt like running LK as spotting runes in a screenfull of text when the colour is that same as everything else is almost impossible. I found it great for that. Later on I started using spirit and insight but not exclusively. Insight is great for questing in the earlier stages of the game and for characters that are very very mana intensive otherwise I actually prefer a CB weapon.

Re: Vanilla or modded gameplay?

For some reason you often see the complaint that Spirit and Insight are broken, or at least they offer too much for the cost.

I never really understood this argument, since it's actually nice to have runewords that are easy to make and useful. The vast majority of runewords that use runes in the same Thul-Sol range are really bad to the point of unusable. I don't understand why we should benchmark low end runewords to crap like Ancients Pledge, King's Grace, etc and then start complaining when something actually usable is available. For what it's worth, I'd love to see more end game viable runewords that don't require amazing effort or luck to aquire.

Personally I'm more annoyed at crap like Last Wish and it's like. Seriously, Blizzard must have been perfectly aware that there is no legit way to get runes like that, so why even make it use such ridicilous HR's?

Re: Vanilla or modded gameplay?

thank god you at least have ATMA

fighting with the limits of space is a bit overdoing it on the no-conveniences policy!

and... ancients pledge is not crap ()
