Using ATMA a beginners Guide

I just got atma aswell, mostly because i'd just finished my druid and then decided that i didn't like his name.

I noticed that there wasn't alot about changing names, so i'll share what i found out myself:

When you open the char with atma, you'll see the name box, and the edit button, but when you hit edit, type in a new name and hit "enter", you'll notice that the char's name doesn't actually change in that box... and it won't, but don't panic, this is only because atma doesn't really change your character's name, instead it copys the character file and creates a "new" character with the exact same items and stats, but with a nwe name. so that when you go into your account, you'll have 2 characters with the same items and stats, but different names.

K hope i explained it well enough..

Whew! longest post for me in a while...

Yes, very well :) But you forgot the last steps. After checking out the newly named char, delete your original, poorly-named character and all of the associated ATMA .org backups.

You did that, right? ;)

of course, why would i want to keep a character with a crappy name?

Well, actually, that was my first anf only time using atma so far, all i did was tell what i knew, i don't know about any associated atma back-up files? could oyu explain how to get to them and i'll do that as soon as i can.

My apologies for the hijack...

Check the directory for your original char (probably c:\diablo ii\save). Delete any files withte extension .org - there may not be any. They are created whenever you mule items between chars and/or stashes.

[/hijack :) ]

perhaps I should check with Doc, but I'll just mention that I have a program that compiles .hlp files (with index, links, ToC, etc) from text pages. if this guide is considered comprehensive, perhaps we can organize it into topics and I'll compile a help file that can be bundled with ATMA downloads
