U consider ATMA storing cheating?

Well i must resume this to a few words:

Diablo 2 it's really a HUMUNGUS game. If we look at all the points of view that it generates, we can say that despite of whatever gameplay style people use, they LOVE playing and that is what really counts.
Other great aspect (and this is particulary to SPF) is that this game managed to create a comunity of people that love to play and, twinked or untwinked, SC or HC, manage to respect everyone play style while in a MP game. Now this only happend at Bnet in the same proportion of finding a ZOD rune with 0% MF.

So thanks SPF and thank all of u for a major positive aspect of this already great game!
Drinks are on me! :drink: (on diablo's money....of course)

ATMA offers Single Players nothing more than what there is on Battle Net - and that is the ability to mule items.

Enough said.

To avoid digging up old grievances I'll try to recap the entire incident last year in the most succint way possible.
So the folks who went to the 'other place' felt ATMA's was not legit? Or they were in favor of it, and the forums opinion changed when the editing features were removed?

They were the ones supporting ATMA .... after the gag order on ATMA was decided, they felt it was time to move on.

You know Durf...I really liked that one Avatar of yours with a cute furry animal. That avatar doesn't give me nightmares at least...

I blame Rincewind.

I am not modifying any of the items I find and mule with ATMA, so I do not consider it cheating. Blizzard just did not make a big enough stash for me :-)

ATMA isn't cheating. It HELPS A LOT. A WHOLE LOT. :D

I have stashes for my corresponding chars. So that I maintain the purity of their finds. Because I myself do not like to twink, but hey if my Amazon of Necro got a Grandfather I'd happily give it to my Barb. :) some items can be an exception. But most of the time, I feel icky about it. I want my chars to have this sense of fulfillment with their finds (projection I suppose), and leeching of my other characters isn't really a nice thing. I'd like to think that they'd brag a lot about their finds, how they'd kill monsters, etcetcetc but that's just me. :D

That's my take on it... :)

Ti998: The Doc would be better able to answer this. I believe it was originally intended simply for testing. The editing features were never well publicized, and at the time of the controversy half the people using ATMA didn't even realise they were enabled. Regardless they are gone now, and versions which had those features are no longer available for download.

Oh but of course it is cheating, we all have to revert into using diskettes and 486 computers without any internet connection, null-modem cables are the only connection allowed between other computers and all muling should be done with those....

Or maybe not...it's cheating yourself to think that storing items someone has legitimately found to be cheating. So don't cheat yourself, use ATMA

This is why Microsoft mice are best avoided. While they're generally okay, I don't find them comfortable, and there are times when the mouse won't work reliably. Logitech makes much nicer mice, and the only time I have a problem with my optical mouse is when the batteries die (it's cordless too).
Personally, I have an Intellimouse Explorer (which is about 3 years old) and it's still going strong. It is probably the best component in my PC at the moment in terms of longevity, reliability and speed (I have an all-right PC, but nothing special)

Aaahh. All better now.

On topic: In all likelihood, ATMA is cheating (by most definitions), but if it wasn't for ATMA, I wouldn't be playing the game anymore. I have reasonably poor skills as a player so twinking is pretty much the only way I will complete the game with any of my characters. It also makes me all warm inside to know that I have just found this item that is useful on that guy, or when I equip a full set for the first time :)

Quote from http://www.battle.net/diablo2exp/items/magic/magicfind.shtml

Maxing Magic Find
So you want to be the king or queen of Magic Find? A common comment is with a lot of Magic Find you'll not be able to kill anything. Some classes such as spell casters (Sorceress, Necromancer, Elemental Druid) are more capable of sacrificing all equipment for Magic Find. You may wish to create "Magic Find Characters" to "farm" or find items then use those items on other characters.

End quote.

Now if blizzard dont support muling/twinking, why the hell they encourage it???!?

If they had put an official game mode for twinking and muling, there wouldn't even be a "is it cheating" question, now would it?

I blame Blizzard for all this cheating question and i blame Durf too!!

While I understand what you're saying and agree entirely, I'm going to be pedantic and point out that MF has no effect whatsoever on rune drops. Given that MF generally comes at a price in kill speed and/or survival, odds are that a character with low MF will have better chances at any given rune than the same character with high MF, since the low MF version should be able to run areas faster. :)

I used that ZOD example to demonstrate just how often people treat u with respect at Bnet... not in the litteraly sense that a ZOD is hard to find with 0%! :uhhuh:
