Treachery, Chains of Honor or Fortitude?

Re: Treachery, Chains of Honor or Fortitude?

I like CoH.

I think Fort is overrated. I've used both armors extensively on a Barb. Fort seems better suited for a Zon.

This is a melee character, I find it very hard to sacrifice the resists/leech/DR/strength/+skills CoH provides, for a barely noticeable damage increase.

I play HC, so CoH all the way. If I didn't, I'd use Enigma. For me Fort isn't even in the discussion. Just my opinion.

Re: Treachery, Chains of Honor or Fortitude?

fort offers dmg on a wider spectrum though, coh is less and only to demons.
fort has pleanty of rez, and it has +to max rez so the rez you do have with a pvm barb(should be all 75's in hell with no problem.
the def is also far better, and even better when you get chilly. keep in mind frenzybarbs dont use shields and a higher def is handy.

Re: Treachery, Chains of Honor or Fortitude?

when you look at items with 200% ED and 300% ED apart from other factors, it looks like a huge difference. wow a frenzy barb in a fort can do the dmg of 3000 when a coh barb does 2000! its not like that. that difference of 100% will be added up to the total ED you get from skills(coh gives you some), strength(coh gives you some) and other gears, so it wont make too much difference in the end. i tried both everywhere including UT, holding 2 griefs. there wasnt really a noticeable difference in killing speed but a big difference in feeling secured with LL, DR and resistance. my pick was coh.

Re: Treachery, Chains of Honor or Fortitude?

Meanstreak's eloquent post on page one pretty much settled this for me. Apart from playing a bvb WW barb I see little reason to choose fort over coh. The defense from frozen armor is quite something though.

Re: Treachery, Chains of Honor or Fortitude?

the only change that your ever gonna really SEE is weapons change.

durring general play however fort is a better offensive armor and you should have seen a differance aginst ALL monsters, true all the important monsters are demons, and fort dosent offer the dr or leach, deffensive.
fort best offence
coh best defense
even if you dont think you see a differance in dmg it really is there...just not very significant to begin with.

Re: Treachery, Chains of Honor or Fortitude?

300% ED is significant. It's around the entire damage bonus provided by whirlwind skills and a maxed mastery.

If you're at a level where you can pick either, resists/leech shouldn't be an issue either.

Re: Treachery, Chains of Honor or Fortitude?

300 isnt really that big coming from yer armor. its not like you add 600% ed to a 300 botd.

Re: Treachery, Chains of Honor or Fortitude?

Assuming a base str build with ED with grief&grief 1 + 1.4(strength) + 1.68(29 mast) + 1.74(29 ww) + 2.7(24 might) + 0.4(gui socket) + 1.2(loh) + 0.5 (grief demon ed)=10.62, then
300% from fort adds 28% damage.
CoH would add 14%(assuming equal distribution of monster types, and 0.46 ED from skills and str bonus of coh).

The other side of the spectrum(highest ED reasonable build):
1 + 6.4(strength) + 1.58(27 mast) + 5.4(27 frenzy) + 2.7(24 might) + 3.45(20 concentration)+ 0.4(gui socket) + 1.2(loh) + 0.5 (grief demon ed)=22.63

Fort would add 13% damage, CoH 6%.

Re: Treachery, Chains of Honor or Fortitude?

That is a question of value judgement.. The (rough) numbers are there, their interpretation is subjective.
