Tournament: The Randomly Challenged II

Re: Tournament: The Randomly Challenged II

Haven't done any testing, but did some questing with Randi. Act 4 maggots. Easy. Diablo. Long. Level 1 Lightning Sentry FTW.
The cutest demon name I've heard of! I think his tummy's a little grumbly.

And, after getting the Ral, Ort, and Tal for the quest reward, Randi promptly inserted "Ral Ral Tal" into her saved 3-socket Tower Shield, which was saved for the extra block, as her current blocking is actually pretty efficient. At least she didn't waste the Ort she was waiting on, but... She then shopped a Kite Shield in Act 2, and got her maxxed resists.

The last two skillpoints she rolled were...

*drumrolls*

Re: Tournament: The Randomly Challenged II

Finally could finish ActI yesterday. After rolling 3 early points in FoF I didn't roll any additional points. It was a fast killer at first, but now its really starting to slow down. Before the fight with Andariel I found The Gnasher, sadly it is ethereal... I decided to kill her without it (though it is stashed for harder bosses). The battle wasn't very difficult, but also not as easy as I expected, she was killed at p8. And dropped not a single S/U. My MF is at respectable numbers 106% (22 from gloves, 23 from boots, 6 from a magic ring, 27 from ring mail and 18 from her helm), but not much was found.

My GF is also decent, having this as weapon:

Gemmed Superior Katar
One-Hand Damage: 4 to 8
Durability: 32 of 48
Fingerprint: 0x6bb67e2b
+6 to Life
+3 to Attack Rating
+1 to Maximum Damage
+20 poison damage over 2 seconds
54% Extra Gold from Monsters
Socketed (2: 2 used)

I also found my 2nd rare jewel which will be soon put into a weapon:

Plague Gyre
Jewel
Required Level: 8
Fingerprint: 0xfbd2a43e
+4 to Energy
+9 to Maximum Damage
Lightning Resist +7%
30% Extra Gold from Monsters

Skills wise I got:
Fireblast 2
Shockweb 1
Charged bolt sentry 1
Blade Sentinel 2 (nice to cast and run, works a bit like blade fury but you dont have to stand still)

Tiger Strike 1
Dragon Talon 3 (not too bad, hopefully will get at least to 6 for 2 kicks)
Fist of Fire 3 (quite good early on, sadly will be most likely wasted points later, was fun while it owned)

Claw Mastery 1
Psychic Hammer 2 (nice, it gets it's damage boosted not, hopefully I get to Mind Blast)
Burst of Speed 3 (I guess as good as it gets, those extra points aren't really wasted)
Cloak of Shadows 1 (I had feared not to roll a point, more points wouldn't be bad since I predict her to be a slow killer)

Re: Tournament: The Randomly Challenged II

PainfulWhisper got slain by Fangskin :( I did the mistake to plant traps which lured them to the stairs, one bad move and I was cornered by Fangskin and 2 minions, Cloak of Shadows didn't seem to work on them, tried to break free with psychic hammer but it dind't work, maybe should have tried to kick my way out.

Was a lot of fun so I will be joining again :) Rolled an Amazon, AvengingAngel is her name, I hope she stays true to it. Forgot to roll the Mercenary, now that is rolled its and Act II 5... that is nightmare... literally. Will be very hard, maybe I will have to play around with settings a bit to get that far...

Re: Tournament: The Randomly Challenged II

Sorry to hear about the deeds and best of luck with AvengingAngel!

Randi_TrueBlood is part way through Act 5, level 42, and just got Burst of Speed and Cobra Strike. Also found a:

which replaces her old weapon I've been meaning to post:

Re: Tournament: The Randomly Challenged II

Sorry to hear about the deeds and best of luck with AvengingAngel!

Thanks and good luck with Randi, Assasins are nice for this tournament because of their many point wonders, I made a mistake and paid for it. I doubt I'll make it far, have to wait for a Mercenary till ActII NM and so far my skill rolls aren't any good... Will make an update if I get through Andariel.

Re: Tournament: The Randomly Challenged II

So far AvengingAngel is freeing the jail from evil. Any advice to kill Fangskin, no merc and summons will make it tough and Amazons don't have much crowd control.

Some suggestions:
Lower player setting to p1
CoS charges from Nadir helm
Strafe + knockback + cold damage
Poison Javelin
Run around the top of the altar, get in, and defend the single-file entrance.

Teleport charges to get on top of the altar platform, if it´s empty.

Snakes are too big to climb the stairs so they are sitting ducks once you´re up there. Of course, there may be other monsters to complicate matters...

Re: Tournament: The Randomly Challenged II

Thanks for the tips Insane Wayne and Jiansonz, some really some nice advice there :) Are teleport charges already available in ActII?

Re: Tournament: The Randomly Challenged II

Yes, the suffix is Qlvl 24, so you should be able to shop it from Ormus on a staff pretty easily.

You can later get it on an amulet or circlet at Qlvl 42.

edit: wait this is act 2... Doesn't seem like you could then, as ilvl is capped at 20 from vendors. But I am not good at qlvl-ilvl interactions.

Re: Tournament: The Randomly Challenged II

i rolled an amazon with a barbarian mercenary, Tara.
she has made lvl 13 and rescued cain. currently she is running around with a 3 chipped ruby spear and 3 chipped emerald short bow, mostly poking with the stick.

Inner Sight: 5/5
Critical Strike: 3/3
Dodge: 1/1
Slow Missiles: 1/1

Fire Arrow: 3/3

Strength: 28/29
Dexterity: 39/39
Vitality: 38/38
Energy: 35/35

Re: Tournament: The Randomly Challenged II

AvengingAngel has slain Andariel, at p5, and is now moving to ActII, for the first time her drop wasn't disappointing, Artic Binding (had found it before though) and Deathspade, maybe useful for the blind, how long does it last?

Found a Tal from a Ghoul in the Cats, didn't know they could drop that high, it did really surprise me. So far I'm spamming Magic Arrows, since I got 5 points in it, and mixing in some multishot when there are many monsters. Slow Missiles is really nice. Also have 4 points into Jab, so will probably use it against stronger bosses when the bow just doesn't cut it. Any ideas on what to do with the 2 Tal runes?

Also found Rixot Keen (nice for the CB).

Other finds:

Skull Impaler (maybe will get some use)
Dirk
One-Hand Damage: 3 to 11
Durability: 14 of 20
Required Dexterity: 25
Required Level: 4
+32% Enhanced Damage
+31 to Attack Rating
+1 cold damage over 2 seconds
4% Life stolen per hit
10% Increased Attack Speed

Storm Track (gambled, really nice and the GF is a plus)
Boots
Defense: 5
Required Level: 12
+31% Enhanced Defense
Fire Resist +19%
Lightning Resist +12%
75% Extra Gold from Monsters
25% Better Chance of Getting Magic Items
10% Faster Hit Recovery

Re: Tournament: The Randomly Challenged II

Deathspade, maybe useful for the blind, how long does it last?

I think it affects the monster you hit with level 1 Dim Vision, so 7 seconds in Normal difficulty.

@littlesamurai: I didn´t realize it was Normal difficulty. As kestegs says, TP staves are not available until Act III.

Against Fangskin, make sure to keep your lightning resist up, enter at a low players setting and be ready with potions. Snakes are wimpy, HP wise, on low players settings in Normal.

Not really that useful then since I can just use a wand with Dim Vision charges, maybe sell for more gambling gold...

Probably will just lower the player settings, maybe I was just pretentious to try to do it on p8 with a Char with no mercenary.

Short update on AvenginAngel, Radament has fallen, on p8... it took several minutes of arrow firing, boring but never really dangerous... Found a Nef when I started clearing the Sewers and it went into this new weapon she is using:

Gemmed Composite Bow
'NefTal' + 9 max dmg jewel
Two-Hand Damage: 4 to 17
Required Level: 17
+9 to Maximum Damage
+75 poison damage over 5 seconds
Knockback
Socketed (3: 3 used)

Also bought this nice gloves from Elsix:

Garnet Leather Gloves of Fortune
Defense: 2
Required Level: 13
Fire Resist +30%
22% Better Chance of Getting Magic Items

Finally got Drognar to sell me a Mechanic Shield of Deflection (2 sockets) :)

Re: Tournament: The Randomly Challenged II

AvengingAngel rushed through the Lost City into the Valley of the Snakes without killing any monsters, cleared the first level of the temple at p8 and then lowered the settings to p1 for the second level. I shot some arrows into the dark which lured Fangskin and a couple of his minions, switched to my wand with terror charges and used them on the minions, then killing Fangskin with Magic Arrows. There was a short moment when I thought I would get swarmed, but a Full Juvie was all I needed.

@Jiansonz: you are right p1 snakes are wimpy, they go down really fast

Clearing the Lost City and Ancient Tunnels next.

First hardcore character to be able to kill Fangskin :D (had lost a throwing barb in the Certain Death tourny and the Assasin from this tourny there)

Re: Tournament: The Randomly Challenged II

This tournament sounds awesome! I hope it isn't too late for me to get in on some of this. It sounds like it'll give me the kick in the pants I need to learn a lot of details about the game. It sounds to me like I'll be needing every advantage I can muster. (So I'll need to use the cube to its fullest potential, use the shops, etc.)

Also, it'll have me learning more about classes other than Necros and Sorcs, I hope. :)

I can't wait to begin!

Edit: I rolled an assassin with a cold arrow rogue merc! :D This is going to be hilariously fun! Gonna get started right away! :)

Re: Tournament: The Randomly Challenged II

@Chunes: Welcome and good luck! Nice rolls there, an Assasin has many 1 point wonders, and a Merc from ActI is really nice.

Re: Tournament: The Randomly Challenged II

Kenneth has been living the easy life, riding the wave of Mizan's power. Full clears are progressing at a comfortable pace. I soften them up with a Malice Long Sword and Mizan gets 95% of the kills.

Hellforge was helpful to me, much appreciated. The Diablo fight was fantastic. Mizan missed most of it, I guess he felt he deserved a break and spent some time in limbo. I ran circles around Big D and spanked him with Rixot's for a while. Kenneth's life pool is low, but his resists were near-maxed with Ancient's Pledge. Nonetheless, the occasional singe from a lightning hose took away more than half his life, very scary and thrilling. After a little work from Malice, Mizan was re-awakened for the final kill.

Act 5 was a cakewalk. The only threat came early on, an Extra Strong pack of Hell Lord Frenzytaurs in the Pit of Acheron entrance. I used all my rejuvs to withstand them, as I had no retreating room. Subsequent species of frenzytaurs were harmless, Mizan could tank them easily with red potion support. The combination of Holy Freeze and cold damage was not enough to completely subdue Baal. He still cast spells and teleported. Thankfully, he did not clone. His drop was interesting:

Aldur's Rhythm, with 3 sockets; an excellent weapon for NM! Weapons that feature (+ integer) damage are especially beneficial for skills like Concentration and Sacrifice, which boost integer damage with %damage. Now Kenneth is the damage king, leaving Mizan playing second fiddle. Quite a shift from Normal! This approach is not as beneficial from an MF perspective (letting Mizan score the kills), but it sure is a lot quicker and more fun. The major issue now was the returned damage I suffered from Sacrifice. The inherent 10% LL did not compensate. Nor did the addition of an Amn rune (17% LL), I was still losing a little life every hit. I went all out and stuffed it full of Amns, for 31% LL. Perhaps this was overkill, but I am enjoying the convenience. I can charge into a pack of 20 Fallen without worry, as long as there's no champions or chilling attacks (no CBF yet). Against unleechables, I tried out level 3 Zeal. I like this skill, but there are drawbacks. For starters, there is no mid-Zeal escape, I'm stuck for the duration. Also, it's a bit sloppy, I can't choose my targets carefully. I would prefer to let Mizan kill all the bosses. Overall though, I like Zeal. I just need to be careful.

Something lucky happened in Act 1 NM, I found three 4-socket gothic plates! (Typically I have to wait until late Act 1 just to find one.) The first dropped in the Crypt. I soon had it filled with Perfect Topaz. The 2nd went into the stash for future PTopaz. After the 3rd dropped, I had the unexpected luxury of creating a mid-grade MF boost for Mizan. Mizan received another upgrade, a gift from Andariel's throne room. One of my favorite merc utility weapons! Upgraded, it's not quite as hurty as the Savage Partizan of the Locust, and it lacks LL. However, the convenience of freezing, blinding, slowing, OW, and corpse disposal outweighs those shortcomings. This will get a lot of use.

Zeal was employed heavily in Act 2. It's common for Kenneth to tank for Mizan, leeching heavily, life bulb fluttering up and down, but staying in the upper half. Woestave freezing is shattereing all those nuisance ghosts, mummies, and skellies. I opened up Vengeance, and put it to use against ghosts. Nice. There are difficulties though. Kenneth's life is too low for comfort, considering all his exposure to mobs. More than once, I've narrowly escaped trouble while Zealing. Missile block-lock is also a problem. Rejuvs are used often. I could shore up his life with a Whale belt and PRubies; but MF is, as always, my primary concern at this point.

After grinding out a p7 clear of the False Tombs, we dispatched Duriel in a single trip. Tanking duty alternated as we were bashed backwards, and potions were re-stocked mid-battle. No major difficulty.

I can make a Rhyme, but I'm waiting for a nice Paladin shield with extra resists. I could really use the CBF (and MF), but instead I'm opting for a huge resistance gemmed shield so I can free up charm space. (More convenient loot storage for selling.) My current charms are mostly +AR and +life. Normally I'm not that concerned about resists in NM, but tanking with low life warrants high resistances.

Exactly how I feel about this skill! I have not been able to "live with" these drawbacks, which is why I like Zeal even less than you seem to do.

I simply do not understand all the attention this skill gets.

Great progress for Kenneth. Lets hope you find a great Pally shield, something like the 2-socketed 35% Resist All Akaran Targe I had in the No-Vita tourney. Rhyme in that was beautiful. :)

Re: Tournament: The Randomly Challenged II

AvengingAngel cleared the Lost City and Ancient Tunnels, then the Palace Harem and Cellar and finally the Arcane Sanctuary. I had a little debate with myself on player settings, but ended up doing it at players 8. One hard fight with a boss pack of Spectre, I had to run and portal park them and almost was trapped to death, but managed to drink a Juvie and run away, then came back trought the WP. Summoner was on the last path, his fire wall wasn't really dangerous but his Ice Blast took over half of my life.

It was worth it though as the rune haul was: Nef, 2 Eth, Tal, Eld, Ith

Also found a set ring, prayed for it to be the good one: and yes Angelic Halo :D
