Tournament: The Randomly Challenged II

Re: Tournament: The Randomly Challenged II

So, I decided since I had a day off of work today, I would start Dorrin the Pally.

So far everything has been on /p8 full clears except for a couple of places in act 2 (Arcane Sanctuary, Palace). I have been very lucky with drops I think, although I would like to see some uniques!

so far I have found:
2 Cleglaw's Shield
1 Hsarus' Boots
1 Hsarus' Shield
1 Razortine
1 Infernal Cranium
And some of the best Rares I have ever gotten on a single pass character. So far it seems that Strength and Dex loves my pally, I am hoping to get some more Vitality soon.

I used about 30 chippies trying to roll my merc a good weapon, the best I got was a poleaxe with 29% ED with 2 Sockets. So that is what he is using! I have quite a few pics that I will put up When I finish the difficulty or see my Deeds screen.

Dorrin the random Pally, Lvl 25, Clearing the first False Tomb

Re: Tournament: The Randomly Challenged II

Back to the game for the first time in over half a year. Who'd have thunk that if I checked these forums when I was bored and had time to kill, I'd get sucked back in?

Kastle the Paladin, lvl 15, just finished clearing the Dark Wood. He's only had one NDE, with a pack of champion archers in the Underground Passage, so life is good. A couple early levels of Sacrifice helped with bosses, three (consecutive) levels of Holy Fire upped his scepter's power dramatically, and one point of zeal at level 13 turned him into a real killing machine.

Stats are at 46, 39, 40, 45

With so much mana, Kastle uses zeal even on carvers. He avoids other adventurers, because they look at him funny. He's really hoping that Act III lightning mercs are ok with working for a weird boss.

Re: Tournament: The Randomly Challenged II

Rolled up a character in order to have something to blow off steam. Was a bit lucky in the first rolls, got a assassin with a rogue merc.
Id say assassins are one of the best classes for this since they like well rounded stats and have lot of one point wonders. None of the cookie cutter skills will work very well though, so she'll certainly keep me on my toes (as any real woman should).

Erratikk the sassy assassin enters the fray!

Just killed bloodraven and cleared everything up to the stony fields. This is what ive rolled so far (lvl12)
Martial Arts:
Tiger Strike 3
Dragon Talon 1
Dragon Claw 1
Fists of Fire 2
Shadow:
Claw Mastery 1
Psychic Hammer 2
Burst of Speed 1
Cloak of Shadows 1

Str 35
Dex 31
Vit 36
Ene 38

1) just about everyone

2) welcome, and you know WE won't be looking at you funny...

Re: Tournament: The Randomly Challenged II

And the HC outing ends much like all my others, I think I'm allergic to HC.

RIP MustNotBeNamed in the Harem in Act 2 at clvl 25.

Condolances to the fallen. There is really only one "end" in HC...well, two if you count "Shelved forever." I have not yet learned my lesson about HC, but I can assure you that I know I"m no match for no Vit HC.

Jgreg: I'm watching your progress with interest, as we have very similar chars. We both desperately need a point in feral rage and in oak sage. We could also use a merc right about now...you meant act V, right?...

At least yours will be able to kill, if and when you get him.

Re: Tournament: The Randomly Challenged II

Thanks for the kind words, One :)

Reached the outer cloister with no further problems. Added a second point into Zeal, which will hopefully be the last one. Stopping for the night to ATMA off his stash full of chippies.

Re: Tournament: The Randomly Challenged II

Act 1? Done.

Andy dropped Dragon Chang, a ruby, and a couple rares to sell to feed my gambling addiction. Finished at level 21, doing "nearly full clears" on /p8. I"m not sure how much longer I can keep that up. Andy took 3 trips back to town (2 for gas and one for directions, if you recall the old joke about XYZ Airlines), and although there were no true NDEs, I would not call the fight "comfortable." Of course, I"m also not sure how I can beat Duriel without a bunch more levels (or some lucky skill rolls).

Good luck, all!

Re: Tournament: The Randomly Challenged II

Well unfortunetly Kane is no more. Not because he died, but because i stupidly forgot about my d2 save folder when i gave in my laptop to be cleaned (due to software problems, they needed to be re-installed and the comp cleaned). Anyway i got my laptop back and re-installed D2 and put back on my old save folder (saved awhile ago, with a Slayer sorc so i can create HC characters). Wasn't a big lose, Kane only made it to the Outer Cloister, although was cruising along nicely.

So its back to the rolling board for me to see who my next character shall be. The results gave me Keith the Barbarian, aided by none-other than his brother the Barb Merc (lets think literally, he is his brother, make it more interesting ).

I am looking forward to this :). Will get started when i can squeeze out some free time, although with exams approaching it may be hard. But we will see.

Re: Tournament: The Randomly Challenged II

Ack, sorry about Kane! But very cool you're re-rolling. :)

Slapdash is still in Act 3, in the Spider Forest. I find I need bigger chunks of time to clear the forests to the point of not having to re-run areas. So I'm waiting until I have a day off and then hopefully, run until I get to Kurast.

Re: Tournament: The Randomly Challenged II

Excellent progress everyone, this thread has been fun and very motivating to read!

I've had my head to the old grindstone recently but finally got around to playing some D2 last week, and my zon Shazza. Well, I certainly had been a long time away from the game, I nearly carked it in the den! I had gotten a little impatient with the fallen shamans and had gone straight to kill a few of them in a row before taking on their little red counterparts and before I knew it I was next to Corpsefires pack and boxed into a corner, bared down upon from all sides. Luckily I was able to TP out and stock up on javelins. I also equipped myself with a handy ethereal jav of max dmg which I had nearly sold before reconsidering, which quickly cleared me a path out to escape.

The rest of Act I after that went smoothly, full cleared on p8. For the nearly the entire act I used a 3os long bow with chipped rubies and a sapphire, donating to my cold arrow merc a pretty nice rare with ctc Amp damage (turned out to be very useful in the catacombs for taking on those high-hp blood lords aswell as for Andy herself), as well as a boatload of early game mf gear (excellent guide jiansonz). Found a pair of cleglaws pincers in the jail which may indeed turn out to be useful.

I was hoping to make this girl a (mutated variety of) Frost Maiden but skill points have been all over the place so I'm not sure yet whether she will take the bow or spear path. Anything but a immolation arrow/impale hybrid will suit me just fine :whistling:. For now, onto Act 2!

Re: Tournament: The Randomly Challenged II

Well, Fate died shortly after my last update, at level 18. But I had become so fond of her, I decide to rebuild her as unrandom SC. Ironically (but not surprisingly) since going SC she hasn't died at all, making it further than all my tournament characters. She cleared the Arcane Sanctuary and first 3 fake Tal Rasha tombs on /p5, but had to switch to /p3 in the 4th. I won't report on her here again since she's non-tournament, but if the tourney is still going when I need a break from her, I'll enter another random character. Good luck, evereyone!

Fate, Assassin, level 18, Barracks

Re: Tournament: The Randomly Challenged II

This looks fun so I am back after an extended hiatus.

I have Jester, a Druid with an Act 1 fire rogue.

Re: Tournament: The Randomly Challenged II

Poor Fate. :(

I'm really looking forward to my day off on Sunday to get Slapdash through the Chapter 3 jungles. It's been awhile since he went on a hunting spree!

Re: Tournament: The Randomly Challenged II

Kastle the Paladin has finished Act I, doing a full clear on p8. No demon escaped his fiery scepter's crushing blow. Andariel went down quickly, dropping a measly diamond, in a fight not nearly as heart pumping as the NDE against the champion zombies who nearly killed Kastle when he wasn't paying enough attention.

On a personal note, Kastle has set a record for me when it comes to points invested in Blessed Aim (2).

Kastle, lvl 20, Lut Gholein

Re: Tournament: The Randomly Challenged II

And, after killing Radamant, Kastle got stabbed in the back by the last Horror resurrected by the evil necromancer.. quite embarrassing - I really should pay more attention to my health when I'm fighting bosses.

Looking at the numbers: lvl 21, giving him 21 skill points, of which he was actually using 8 (counting one in each prereq). Make that 11 skill points, because of the synergy bonus that sacrifice gives to zeal. I guess half isn't bad when you're going random. (btw, from the beginning, I rolled for skill points every time I leveled up)

Skill points ended up going: ST 25, DX 22, HT 24, EN 29. After modifiers HT was the lowest stat.

No idea yet what to do next. I'll have a look at the other tournaments, but may come back for another run here.

Re: Tournament: The Randomly Challenged II

Drus´ Savage Great Sword was enough for this act, but taking down big monsters is really getting slow now.

Some of you may have read it in the item find thread, but for those that haven´t, I completed the set in Cold Plains. MF wise, the armor can´t compete with a heavily topazed one later, but it´s great for now. The main improvements are the resists (fire in partucular, it´s more than maxed now), and the fact that the +1 all skills now works on the other weapon switch as well (the one without Angelic Sickle).

So far, Nightmare has been pretty safe. It got a little hairy in Pit level 2 (is there any time that does NOT happen?) but I soon regained control over the situation.

I earned 6 skill points in the act, and got really lucky with two of my rolls. Reached game-changing one-point wonders, actually: Decrepify and Revive!

Still no Shael rune (and no more Amn either, so I still don´t know if I want to use the only one I have for upgrading a rare sword or to socket my favourite voodoo head. If I can gamble a kickass rare sword, I may take that head to Larzuk).

Two notable finds, both off-weapon CB sources. Goblin Toe and a similar item for the merc as well.

Andariel was slivered by IM against lots of golems.

Re: Tournament: The Randomly Challenged II

Jiansonz, you are so far! And what incredible equipment considering it's all self-found during this run. I know you did high MF, but still! In all my MFing through out the past few years, I still have never found Goblin Toe.

Nice work! :)

Re: Tournament: The Randomly Challenged II
